I doubt it will ever work like that. They may have 360 servers that you can host on your computer and allow others to connect to, but I doubt they would let 360 users connect to PC users. The editions are constantly changing and mods like Bukkit don't require client mods on the PC, but the 360 version might not support Bukkit that well.
As a 25 year old Minecraft AND Xbox 360 player, I'm kind of offended at the close mindedness of the people here...
You guys are really full of yourselves. Do you really think the Minecraft community is somehow superior to the Xbox 360 community? First of all, the average gamer is 35. Second of all, I guarantee more young kids have access to computers than have access to Xbox 360's. Poor kids in Mexico can afford a cheap computer, not an Xbox 360. Poor kids in Africa can afford a cheap computer, not an Xbox 360.
Furthermore, on top of all that - I've seen tons of immature, trash-talking, foul-mouthed kiddies on Minecraft servers. Just saying...
As for having the option to not allow Xbox 360 players, I don't think it's necessary. Server admins can already kick users. If a user is not following your servers rules, kick them. You already have the tools necessary to deal with unwanted players. There is no reason to add any more, especially ones which arbitrarily discriminate against players based upon their hardware and a superiority complex.
Exactly. We need to now come up with a word that describes these kinds of people. Consolists, Platformists. Just kidding, but its kinda dumb how they assume things and stuff. I mean you don't need a good computer to run minecraft and a large amount of console players have good enough computers to run minecraft fine, like me and I have a really bad gaming computer, but can easily run minecraft on very far render distance. People who use consoles are not more immature then those who use a PC more.
Offtopic- I just love how people seem to think xbox users will grief when on pc there's "hack clients" and also Griefing clans "team avo". Im 99% sure there's not going to be a "grief Client" for Xbox 360.
Now on topic, There most likely will be a server side to not let Xbox users join your server or you could just W-list.
Also about the whole Cross platform thing and saying "oh they wont do that Xbox cant have bukkit" :dry.gif: BUKKIT is not made by works of minecraft. when i started mine-craft and multi player was some what working there was NO bukkit And who knows maybe bukkit will make some thing to work with Xbox 360
This whole topic seems a little closed minded and mean.
i agree and this topic is stupid.....Mojang would be crazy if it didnt cross platform (assuming it could)and it would get your server more popular + you could just ip ban them or something
i'm pretty sure that a server list will be created for the xbox cause it would be stupid to search ips around all the internet to find a server and that you had the bad luck that that server is yours.
most of the people who plays guns and stuff like that dont like minecraft at all so why would they bother someone anyway?
Honestly, I just don't think XBox live will be tied with pc servers... they dont do it with any other game... unless Im wrong about something, and someone can point it out. Also will there be even an ability to host a server from XBOX and have it run continously? Thats another question I have.

Hi, how's it going? I play Minecraft on vanilla servers if I can. Don't be a wuss, use a bed, not /set home
Even if xbox could connect to pc servers, wouldnt the xbox players need a keyboard to type various commands such as /help or even to talk like as an example, the indie games?

alot of xbox players have a keyboard that connects to the mic input at the bottom of their controller, including myself. I just dont think thats going to be an issue.

I tend to grief alot and kill people, yes but that's only if it's MY server, and besides I think youll be able to disable griefing and annoyances when the cross-platform comes so you won't have to have griefers running around, and there'll probably be a kick/ban button as well.
As I said I only grief when the servers mine, I play xbox and all but that means nothing, in fact I get really bored of cod when I play it.... REALLY bored, thats why I like minecraft, unlimited possibilities, lots of freedom and the ability to do it all online with friends.
Last thing, TNT is very hard to get in a legit server so why worry about people getting it? It's unlikely for someone to go on a creeper killing spree and get even 10 blocks of TNT, it does cost 4 gunpowder and 5 sand each, and, just hide your base xrays will be hard to get if you have the xbox version.
All I do usually is build a fortress and admire the creation I built in legit.
As it will be the same, as kiddies who hack will be to engrossed
In MW3, I doubt they will buy Minecraft.
As for the thought, no one is superior, It's not like you
can't kick people from OTHER consoles, come-on really?
It's not like they get a special perk to not get kicked
or anything like that.
There are hackers/griefers/immature people in every community, any generalized comments of anyone here is wrong, people whom play shooter games will play minecraft, there is no definitive trait that a common Minecraft player has that a FPS player does not, every person can act a different age than they appear to have been around, get over the fact that there are aggravated peoples whom do not like a certain communities make up, they have no wish to hear your claims of good deeds, as much you do not want to hear the bad deeds and until both parties understand that there is more to life than the situation they had to experience we will get nowhere with topics like this.
Don't assume the entire Xbox community are a bunch of stupid kids who are gun and killing fanatics,(Even though most of it is)
The stupid kids will be too pre-occupied playing MW3 to be playing Minecraft anyways.
Also what's the difference between Griefers from the Xbox community and the griefers on the PC? They should both be dealt with the same.
Think positive, don't think about the new griefers who have a slight possibility of joining your server, but rather the new players joining and the new opportunities it could bring - Not all of us "Xbox fanboys" are gun crazed retards.
In short - Griefing is griefing, regardless of the console and don't worry about the slightest things which you might encounter already.
The issue doesn't even have to deal with the community. What do you do when a 360 player joins a modded up server/customized server? I've actually never seen what happens when an unmodded client joins a modded client on PC. Plus I'd imagine the server client may/may not have some more issues dealing with Xbox Live and cross platform. Maybe some players don't want to bother with the latency issues that could result?
If I hosted public and there would be that issue, I would indeed like an option to exclude xbox clients simply because of the hassle it could have server side. If not, I personally wouldn't care who played-But the option should still be present in any case to prevent cross-console for both platforms. It doesn't have to be a fan-boy/console war reasoning.

Okay I have a question for people who own Xbox 360.
How many of you know that the Xbox 360 has support for Keyboards?
That's right you can plug your keyboard into the Xbox 360 via USB and it will work even the wireless one I have works.
And in all honesty it's a lot cheaper to buy a cheap keyboard then a chatpad which has less features.
But really, haven't you ever heard of a whitelist or something? Anyone who actually owns a server would know this so this topic should just be locked for wasting our time.
There are no(none that I know of) cross platform multiplayer games for PC, xbox, or Playstation, so I don't see why Minecraft would have cross platform multiplayer.

shadowrun has crossplatforming between xbox and pc, portal 2 has pc and ps3
Yeah, like most people have said, I don't think you should worry about console users griefing your server. I mean, I'm sure it's much harder to get a Hacking Client on an Xbox then it is on a Computer, eh, but then again, I don't really know, I've got a PlayStation.
I wish it would come to the PlayStation Network...
And also, if Minecraft does have cross-platform servers, I'm pretty sure there's some type of identification between the Pc version and the Xbox version, I mean sure they're the same games, but I'm pretty sure their scripts have been completely re-written to be able to be run on an Xbox. I can't say I've had much experience with scripting or games, other than simple tutorials, but I'm pretty sure you can't just copy-paste a script from a completely different platform to another. Especially from a Computer to a console.

You are my hero. I was just about to Mention Shadowrun. I didnt even know people knew that game existed xD
But anyway, If they do make it so you can tell that the player is from an Xbox, You could kick them. Or Do a whitelist on the server. It will just come down to being more observant.
Also there was mention about not being able to do server commands on xbox. You can actually. See if you have a keypad for the controller, you have all the buttons you need. Fortress Craft actually included this. If you are playing you can bring up a console that lets you type in commands, but only if you have the Chatpad hooked up.

I think so, as long as you know their Xbox live username or minecraft username if you can link them.
