I HIGHLY doubt that multiplayer servers will be cross-platform. Doing so is a technological feat; I was surprised that the Pocket Edition could do so with other phones.
Nevermind, I just remembered that the PC version is written in Java, and that the xbox version is written in a variant of C I belive, so cross-platform multiplayer is virtually impossible. No need to worry.

The coding has nothing to do with it. It is completely possible.

That is where you are wrong. You see, the minecraft servers are server-side, not client-side. Putting it simply, if mojang/4j/Microsoft really wanted cross platform capabilities in minecraft, they would do it. Just because the game is in a different language doesn't mean it's not compatible with everything else.
(unless it's a completely different game.lul)
I dont think that Xbox minecraft servers will get to pc editions because they dont even do that to any other games :smile.gif: so i dont think its anything to worry about. Minecraft on Xbox 360

I have been following an indie developer who is making a MMORPG and the client is written in a game making program for easy development of the actual playing and a C++ server for fast networking and the ability to run it on a remote server. Those are two different languages (the game making program has it's own language) and they work together perfectly.

I hope that you can toggle cross platform gameplay in a options menu for those who think cross platform gameplay is a good idea.(if cross platform gameplay is even currently possible.)I'm an XBOX 360 fanboy, and I actually don't prefer shooters (currently, everything else i will play without much negativity.)I'm not so much of a fan of cross platform play though. Just because PC "elitists" will actually probably think they are better then everyone else that's on the 360. :dry.gif:
This is coming from someone who plays mainly x-box 360 game. Yeah you can do the typical fanboy calling, hate, insult whatever... oh and this my first post so I'm a new person on those forum and I obviously created an account just to troll so...
I really don't feel I have to say why I don't want the 360 community on my server.
But will I be able to refuse connection for 360 users?
I really REALLY don't feel I have to say you're quite an elitist and you prefer to put the actual survival of the minecraft game in 2nd place behind the pseudo-maturity that choosing which player have to play this game in your opinion gives you. I'm actually the one here who can provides prove to back up my claims.
we don't need to assume anything, we know what is to be expected from a community who's marketing caters to children and teenagers.
and to answer your question, because the Xbox players wants to connect to the server. And the server host obviously does not want that.
Heh, we also know what is to be expected from a community who's marketing caters to imaginative and artistic people it seems...
If you people want to know that bad how Minecraft is going to look on the 360 just get a look at some clones like Fortresscraft, Total miner forge and castleminer Z in the indie section of the x-box Marketplace. I mainly play Total Miner and there is no such thing as "griefers" in this, as block edit and blasts can be shutted down by the admin of the world. Heck, there's even a "Griefing on/off" button when you put player permissions, I have no idea if they have that in Minecraft as I never played it but will get the xbox version.
just to add to this discussion, its already possible for cross-platform play. For example Final Fantasy 11 has PC users, Xbox users, PS3 users, and Ps2 users and they all play on the same servers. so it is already possible and i think it should be cross-platform between PC and Xbox
If you are worrying your bum off thinking that the immature section of xbox live are going to greif the hell out of your servers, then at least consider the fact that they will only be able to grief using vanilla methods, but even if there weren't any xbox live players you should always have a reliable anti griefing plugin for ex:Hawkeye,BigBrother,or LogBlock. Stop fixing your mind thinking that other people that are used to a different style of gaming might end up choosing bad decisions, you will come across times where you will have to accept the fact that things will happen and you will have to deal with them accordingly. If you are really going to worry about people spamming your chat about nonsense don't even worry about that, i think its a lot better than what those spam bots come up with, it's nothing a good plugin cant fix in an instant.
Honestly if you cant deal with such possibilities, why even bother making a server, all who cant deal with it don't trip and eat some chicken strips
I don't think any of this matters, cause he isn't gonna be able to tell if an xbox player is on his server or not- it'll be just another player.
Another way to look at it is, so what if he kicks xbox players off. Let him stew in his own juice. Besides, it's not like kicked xbox players don't have PC's that they can get back at him with.

Sorry had to point this out.
But your an idiot and they proved it.
Not only is it "not a coding thing" to make it cross platform, they've already announced it WOULD BE cross platform this winter. Along with a new experience with the Kinect.
So honestly... try doing some research before spouting things like "it's impossible" NOTHING is impossible, especially with minecraft.
Onto the topic at hand, I can easily see a filter option like in other games.
other games have it to filter by country or content or chattiness and all that - so "xbox only" or "Pc Users allowed" boxes would be easily fit into that catagory under it's options. Now if they do it or not.. that's up to the makers.
But honestly It probably won't be needed.
On Xbox side - a server built there would only be active as long as it had an xbox account on it - and is limited to say 8 players. This means that not only would they invite you to the game, like they do now with other xbox players - but it has extremely limited space. A PC player joining an Xbox server would probably be by invite only. Gotta remember, they didn't say "making dedicated servers" for minecraft on the 360 - just the game will be playable. So turn off your xbox - your world goes inactive - everyone else gets the boot.
While an xbox player should be able to connect to a PC server - we've already seen massive updates all around about everything else, so it wouldn't be hard to forsee a change in the options again for running your server - accepting Xbox360 clients as well as PC clients or denying etc.
I honestly don't know why PC players would want to block 360 players - it's not like they can Hack/mod etc to ruin your servers. Even if they could add mods to the 360 to fly or superpick - if you have your server set up and protected right - those would be blocked, just like they are with a PC player trying. It's the plugin/action your blocking not the system it's on.
Honestly I don't know why so many of these threads exist.. why not just wait and see? It'll come to Arcade within a few months, and then the first wave of solutions soon after.
As a 25 year old Minecraft AND Xbox 360 player, I'm kind of offended at the close mindedness of the people here...
You guys are really full of yourselves. Do you really think the Minecraft community is somehow superior to the Xbox 360 community? First of all, the average gamer is 35. Second of all, I guarantee more young kids have access to computers than have access to Xbox 360's. Poor kids in Mexico can afford a cheap computer, not an Xbox 360. Poor kids in Africa can afford a cheap computer, not an Xbox 360.
Furthermore, on top of all that - I've seen tons of immature, trash-talking, foul-mouthed kiddies on Minecraft servers. Just saying...
As for having the option to not allow Xbox 360 players, I don't think it's necessary. Server admins can already kick users. If a user is not following your servers rules, kick them. You already have the tools necessary to deal with unwanted players. There is no reason to add any more, especially ones which arbitrarily discriminate against players based upon their hardware and a superiority complex.
But will I be able to refuse connection for 360 users?
(also, don't go assuming the whole of the xbox community is a bunch of stupid kids who like guns, killing and destroying things..)

Then Minecaft B decodes information and sends it's info back.
Therefore it shouldn't matter.

Can't you just put a password on the server?

Lawl. I know plenty of mature people who are more so console gamers then PC, and don't want to try Minecraft until 360. I wouldn't worry.
