I think you will be able to but even if you can't I think someone in the community will work a way out of being able to just use a USB to transfer the save. This will include some conversions and more technical stuff I myself don't fully understand but it's not impossible.

#2 call of duty could easily work cross platform together w/ xbox and ps3. They just don't want it to. Putting it simply, they all run from the same servers, but those servers then run off the 'mothership' that is psn and xbl.
#3 As someone else said, enter the ip. Things like Bukkit don't run client side, they run server side. Meaning it doesn't need the game to be running java. Making it very possible to connect to a pc server of they wanted it to.
#4 You don't need to have mods installed, to join a server with those mods.
