Am I the only one who hates what the crafting system looks like? When I first started Minecraft, one of my favorite parts of the game was learning new recipes, or guessing recipes. Now I know the new version is simplified to save time, but it wouldn't hurt to add an option to switch between the new system and the original system, would it? I can't be the only person to want this, so maybe if we get enough votes, they might decide to add this option.
(Sorry if this has already been started, too lazy to search)
I don't see a problem with the crafting system, but I don't see a problem with the option to toggle it on or off. Seems like it would be nice to a somewhat significant percentage of the Minecraft community.

GENERATION 28: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the
generation. Social experiment.
Because little 6 year olds arn't allowed on the internet.
No but really, did you actually figure out how to make a stick without a guide?
Pretending your clicky and brony hate doesn't exist, yes, I did work out a lot of crafting by myself. I couldn't work out the hoe, torches, fences and how to make obsidian, but I was pretty bloody good. Don't pretend that everybody can't play a game, just because you couldn't.
EDIT: Oh, and it's actually four sticks you craft, how you only obtained one is for Notch to know.
When i first thought about it, i was thinking the idea to make it simple was kinda stupid/gay but then i tested it out at Minecon and it was freaking amazing! Just wait until you guys get the XBL version because it is so much more better and less time-consuming. In the end- I would like to see a original crafting system to, why not?

PLAYER GETS HUNGRY TO FAST- LET HUNGER BE "SLOWER" AND LESS FREQUENT.
Sincerely, Part of the Minecraft Community.
This should be added. If not at first, definitely in an update.
Navigating through a menu tree is not what Minecraft was originally supposed to be.
And who are you exactly to say what Minecraft was or wasn't supposed to be?
Minecraft is a game that allows you do create, explore, and do virtually whatever you want. Having a different system for something does not effect that.
Now could we please stop trying to pick apart every little detail of a game we know very little about and wait until it actually comes out to judge it?

I'm usually not trying to be rude. So if a post comes across that way then sorry :]
If you look at the above image, you'll see that when crafting an object the items needed to craft it are automatically put in the correct place (if you have them). So it's "teaching" you the all the crafting.
However, we're assuming that this is the only way you can craft something. What if, when you pull up the workbench, the squares are there so you can manually place the items (like you purist want to do), OR you hit a key to get into the "quick craft" screen above? So when you pull up the workbench you can do it either way. This takes care of the all-or-nothing toggle question. That would seem like the way to do it to me.
EDIT: Never mind. Just checked a couple of videos and it goes straight to the quick crafting. Course, that's perfectly ok with me- I love the quick crafting. While you "purist" may like the DIY method, I think it's a PITA.
But no telling how it will work in the final version. We'll just have to see, won't we?
while it is faster, doesn't it take out the craft part out of minecraft? i mean your not crafting anything anymore, your just selecting a pre-made combination.
And aren't you just plugging items in a pre-determined combination?
If you want to masochistically craft items manually, more power to you. But I promise you that it will be a lot easier on a xbox selecting what you want from a list rather trying to move what and how many you want from inventory to those little squares.
Call me a stupid console gamer, but I don't really want to spend 15 minutes stumbling to make a torch.
I'm actually somewhat in agreement with you, to be honest.
Think of it like... Trying to type a message to a friend of yours over Xbox Live using a controller. It's not fun, it's clunky, difficult, and verytime consuming. I think it makes more sense to not use the traditional crafting system as you'd find it on PC in the XBLA version. While it's simple to move the cursor to put blocks into the grid, it's kind of difficult to do that using a joystick or d-pad. I think that a lot of people would turn away from buying the game if it took them ten minutes to craft a few blocks and tools.

Yeah i agree i don't see a problem with the new crafting system either, i actually like it a bit more. still, i hope they add a on/off option or something like that.
You at start only have the classic crafting grid, but when you craft something it gets added to your auto crafting items
This will let users that have been playing for a while to use the quick crafting whithout losing much time, and at the same time not taking out the crafting and learning new crafting recipes out of the game
This will also help not to spoil so much for the new minecraft players, suddenly knowing existence of every item
What a bunch of hypocrites.
On one hand you guys say you want the old crafting system so you keep the feel of the "original" MC.... but on the other you use mods to make the game easier (and cheat) and texture packs to make it "prettier".
And don't give me that about 'new' and 'old' players. If nothing else, it should be easier for newer players- not harder!

I don't know if I could agree with that more.
My whole argument that everyone seems to be overlooking is that it's really difficult to plug things into a grid using a joystick. I can almost promise you that if you were able to use the original crafting system to make stuff on the Xbox version, you'll be sick and tired of it in minutes because you'll be sitting at the crafting table for several minutes to make tools and items.

That depends on how they make it easy pressing the joy up up right then press A but not ass easy as dragging it with a mouse

You can add the option if you want, but my guess is you'll get over the hassle of crafting manually pretty quick. (It's ok, we won't tell...)
Get over the hassle of crafting? What, do I look like I don't like doing manual time consuming tasks? This is minecraft. :wink.gif:
