That'd be a really dumb decision that would drive users to play the PC version of the game. If it's cross-plat compat, how are you going to join a server with 256 slots when the game, per se, only allows 4 connections?
I believe that the limited players will be for games hosted on the Xbox its self because of not being able to increase your consoles RAM among other things :sad.gif: . I personally will enjoy playing it on my Xbox as the laptop i own barely runs Minecraft on the very minimum settings.
P.S anyone that kicks up a stink about this being my first post is a idiot i have owned a Xbox since the first month they came out so i know what I'm on about.
Edit: i found this topic while doing research about Minecraft for xbox

Actually you wont have to worry about increasing console RAM. Do you know how much RAM an Xbox has? Alot. I'm not sure of exact numbers, but Xbox's are much more powerful than alot of computers. Running the game wont be a problem. Xbox's can run Crysis. Which is kind of a big deal in the PC gaming world.
im sure theyll figure it out, maybe it will be just singleplayer, or maybe there are two different downloads, singleplayer and multiplayer
:sad.gif: not good...
Yeah you havent really looked into this much have you? It will be both in one. It will have singleplayer and multiplayer in one game, just like the original.

- Hosting/Server add-ons
No Bukkit or other server add-ons. A greifer's paridise.
- The community
Not to generalize but the XBox comunity is a group of people who go into a coma if they spend five minutes not killing somone in a video game. These people are very apt to be greifers. (Keep in mind I own an XBox and live, so i've seen it firsthand)
- Joining servers
It's a pain to find your XBox's IP (And alot of XBox'ers won't know how to do it) OR the server you join will be random. Also not a very good idea.
they will probably have individual settings you can set for each player that joins your server. And I know for sure you will not need an IP to join a server. You'll probably set your server to public, or friends only. And the default setting for people joining your server would be that they could only walk around, no building or anything. And if you come to trust them or whatever you can change that. Trust me, I'm sure the producers are taking into consideration all of this. They probably will have some kind protection from all these worries.
edit:
also I bet there will be some kind of God mode for the server host only. Like giving items to people and such.

you are generalizing xbox live players. a lot are like that, if you play a lot of shooters, you see a lot of shooter fans.
and joining the server is going to like joining your friend from the xbox menu thing [i assume]
to join other people, you would add them as a friend, let them host etc etc. [i assume]
and on the topic of no server control, i am sure you can set it to only people from friends list, if there is a server list. if it is like i was saying above, then you really would only have the people that you like in with you.

I just dont see it flourishing as well as MC on pc...people on Xbox (although i own one) are generally dull minded.
All they know is how to open and close their disc tray. THEY NEED TO PLAY IT ON PC.

The Xbox 360 on has 512mb of RAM, the standard low end budget PCs these days have four times that. Also, the Crysis that runs on Xbox 360 arcade is a severely dumb down version of Crysis graphically, it's not a big deal.

while this is true that 512mb of ram is clocked at 700 MHz with an effective transmission rate of 1.4 GHz on a 128-bit bus where as the best info on a "low end PC" showed that the ram inside is clocked at only 300 MHz couldn't get any transmission info
all info came from wikipedia.org

You really went to the lowest end of PCs there didn't you? ;p
My point still stands, the Xbox isn't as impressive as they were building it up to be.
It'll handle Minecraft just fine but it's not going to be running a PC equivalent of Crysis.

i kinda did couldn't help it and i don't play crysis on either platform so can't comment there
Sigh. Anyway minecraft will be out either this Wednesday or next Wednesday. Hope your happy. Also I think it will work like total miner forge. Where you can have public or private servers.
I highly doubt you need to know your IP Address. And also, I 100 percent agree with you on the community, but I don't think those people will buy this game.
On the hosting: the game will limit you to only playing with people on your friends list, if they grief, defriend them. Same answer for a bad community. As for servers and IPs, similar to Call of Duty and any game that uses console hosting, it pretty much solves itself, people probly just join your game by following your gamertag like in any other console hosting style game. I wish there was just a mode that pairs you with 4-8 other random players to play. It would be interesting, even if there was griefing, friends would be made with it

We don't need the server add-on's as of yet, unless your friends are griefers, but you can kick them still, and the joining would be simply Join session in progress. They will probably have an option to be joinable or not, and a kick feature if somebody griefs, trolls, etc.
This damned topic needs to be closed. It's a bunch of closed-minded PC elitists who are butthurt thats its coming to xbox that have never EVER touched a console and are assuming all kinds of **** they don't know. Like the original post.... i mean seriously? every single thing stated in that is wrong and FORTY-NINE people upped it???? Are. You. ****ing. Serious. This is why nobody likes PC gamers except PC gamers.
EDIT: \/ \/ Example A \/ \/ I'd be willing to bet he's never touched a console.

only 1 thing to say if you mean that you don't know a lot about minecraft and xbox

People like you give PC gamers a bad name

I just had to laugh at this even though I'm part of Xbox Live
