The description for Minecraft on the Xbox Live Marketplace says "downloadable content" so I would assume t hat means there will be something for it. What that is, is anyone guess.
In a sense i would hope there is dlc for this game as long as it is done right, and isnt fully supported by dlc in the sense that you "need" dlc to play/enjoy it. By that also i mean that if packs/dlc come in it isnt large in price (unless its bundled or has a ton of content) as i would assume that there will be more than 1 pack and it all adds up in the end.
Also i hope they arent the type to take out content just to leave it as "new" dlc. like say if they release the game but its only creation mode, thus you need to buy survival, plus you might need to buy a mob pack, or some other pack.
I doubt by the dowlaodable content they mean actual dc but im not sure how you can implement mods
I would hope not. Honestly, I was already disappointed enough to see notch is associating himself with microsoft at all, much less the xbox branch which is like a curdled evil version of M$'s general uncaring consumption.
There's also the fact that, at least in my country, we do not (publicly heh) approve of monopolies. No, what M$ does with dlc is not technically a monopoly, but then again their contracts more or less technically say that the whole of the xbox live service is their own privately owned universe where no us laws apply, hence why it is not illegal. And, frankly, I don't see why that should hold up for monopolies when it wouldn't hold up, for instance, if the DEA wanted chat records or something like that to bust some ewil ewil dwug deawler. Now, whether or not you're vile enough to publically admit that you think you have the right to determine the actions of another human being before the point where they cause you physical harm or any harm upon your personal property (and if you think public spaces are your personal property, 'owned by the people,' go out and treat them like you own them for a while and see how long it takes you to end up in a gov't sanctioned torture facility heh (dunno if this applies in other countries, obviously prisons are a lot worse in most of the world even than the US Gov'ts commercialized prison system, but I hear that in some countries they put their self-righteous bile aside at least enough to keep the gov't from doing things to its citizens that would cause international incidents if they were done to enemy captives. Here we've long since decided that freedom and rights aren't worth crap next to the joy of seeing someone the media's told you to hate get sentenced to brutality, butt rape, corruption and possibly death (and if you're religious you've gotta put corruption at the end of the list, because honestly I couldn't design a much better system for the corruption of souls, at least not one which would pass in a nominally democratic country of self-delusional haters heh)).
But yeah, the whole point of xbl from m$'s perspective is that its their own personal universe with no laws that apply to them where they can legally sell whatever they want however they want. I really don't think anyone was deluded enough to believe all their trash about the service being 'fore the people' and 'insert phrase purposefully designed using the scientific method on human lab rats to inspire a state of trust in the speaker which any person a couple hundred years ago would have called a compulsive magical spell, named you a sorcerer, and burnt you at the stake for having the sheer gall to use here.' The whole point of it is that ANYONE can make maps, models, etc. It doesn't really take any unique skills to do that, it just takes a good idea and a bit of commitment. What takes unique skills is designing the tools (software development kit) that are used to build these things. Making maps, models, etc, inside of a good SDK (or for the models a good modeling program, games seldom include modelers in their sdk, but since most of the modelers are tuned to compact high res constructs rather than the mostly simple geometric structure of game maps which is fleshed out entirely by shaders, they tend to make their own map makers or at least modify them for the strengths and weaknesses of their engine) is literally child's play. As in, some of the best maps I played for counterstrike and other halflife mods were made by people who couldn't honestly put two digits on their age (honestly probably more than that, but just going by who ADMITTED they were young, which used to be even more gauche on the internet than it is now). Same for battlefield mods really, and some quake 3 stuff (my main modding games, if i included quake 2, but that was a little early for the new explosion of child programmers, it used to be considered improper to allow your kid to PLAY games, much less to LEARN to play them (improper learning, you foreigners must understand, is a major sin in America. Only the US gov't has the right to indoctrinate us, its written pretty clearly in between the lines of the legal code, dunno if you should call it 'reading between the lines' when what you're looking for is written in black marker and is more obvious than the original text hehe).
Ofc kids are capable of doing pretty much anything adults are doing these days, very few people ever push themselves in the modern age, they just lie and say they're not smart enough or inventive enough (and they're NOT the same thing... thats something we really screwed up (probably purposefully) in America, linking those two terms so closely when in reality man is DUMBER than most animals, the only thing he's got that's useful is generalized inventiveness. Or rather the thing we call 'smarts' is just the quick and confident execution of instinct, dunno which it is, my vocabulary is all frankensteined out) so they can act like they're doing their best occupying some mostly make-work position that a robot would be doing if not for the political fallout.
But thats not the point. I mean, I guess the whole point of consoles anyway was games for people too lazy to be gamers and deal with all those howwible computer issues (none of which are so bad that running an automatic os reinstall can't fix them lol. I mean, you can hardly say 'but computers break,' because xboxes break in a tenth of the time, and if you buy that its not designed in after THIS many years then you're fooling yourself. They designed them to break quickly because they were selling the systems at just above cost originally (they said they were taking a loss, but ofc that was a lie, a 'loss' to microsoft is any effort that doesn't boost their stocks. they would have been doing it at a loss if they had been buying the parts from best buy, but they bought them from china and by the millions so they paid what they were worth plus a little profit for the manufacturer not retail) depending on having their fingers deep enough up the **** of the software profits (games and xbla and most of all 'downloadable content, or skins, maps and modes as gamers call it) to more than make that dough back, but since they have all the honesty of a Vegas casino they had to rig the system in their favor to boot in case it didn't all prove as massively profitable as they needed it to to boost their stocks how they planned it to, designing the system to be malfunction prone, or simply designing a particularly weak failure point in that will cause people to buy a new one, is a roundabout way of lowering material costs when you are overestimating their costs).
Lul, sry, i tend to rant whenever i talk about microsoft. I had a lot of hopes for gaming before they made it a mass market affair, and now people like notch have given me hope again and they're trying to corrupt them. I wonder what the chances are that m$ DIDN'T specifically seek out people to rip off notch's game so he'd feel compulsed to deal with them as well?
But yeah, he can't release maps because, well, the biggest draw of his game is that not only is it one of the only new games with an sdk but its BUILT RIGHT INTO THE INTERFACE so that even the 'newage' gamers who know nothing about development will use it. He could release skins, but would the mc community swallow that great big load of throat rape when they already know how easy it is to make skins for mc? He could ofc do new game modes, but the one of the big draws in the first place on mc (at least once you could buy it) was that his contract more or less said, "I won't screw you like m$, you buy this and you're getting all the content not just what I've done so far." That used to be how it was for all games, you used to have to act like a 'map pack' was a whole new game and call it an expansion pack, including new weapons and skins and modes and features, and STILL you could only sell it for ten or twenty dollars because gamers were DISCERNING, and because they knew people were willing to create better stuff for free. COD on xbox meanwhile has been re-releasing every year with LESS new stuff than would have been required for one of these ten dollar expansion packs (and btw, the whole thing about it taking more money to make good games now? Well if you're on the mc forum and you believe that you're already blatantly insane, but no the only part that they're actually improving (and so that can actually cost more to improve upon) is the shaders which they use to trick your eyes into missing how totally inept their modeling and animations are, so yeah if you agree that you should pay more to give the developers the ability to mass produce and sell you crap by tricking you then i guess thats a valid statement hehe) and most game developers literally HOLD OUT maps to SELL you after you've BOUGHT THE GAME ALREADY. They don't even LIE about it anymore - obviously most of the developers on xbox are 'newage' game developers (read greedy talentless hacks just looking to make a buck) and most of the real game devs on there have been corrupted anyway, but they've so indoctrinated even the older gamers now that they can literally just ADMIT that they cut out parts of the game content so they can sell it to you AGAIN!
I dunno, I guess any data in dlc's for mc would probably be small enough files that m$ MIGHT let notch put it up there free without giving them some money for the file transfers (above, you know, the money you're already paying for for nothing but file transfers) but I would imagine they'll say no unless he agrees to pay the piper with some bs that they make a giant profit off of as well. And I HOPE notch hasn't been corrupted enough to sell a polished turd just b/c people will buy it like the rest of the developers; and before anyone says 'thats just capitalism,' congratulations on being so good at swallowing what you're fed. The ORIGINAL point of capitalism was that governments tend to be horribly corrupt and in most cases outright evil so if you want the society's spare wealth to go to improving the society rather than creating a nice warm nest for some overfed lardass to sleep on then you should keep it out of the hands of the people living in an environment that evolutionarily selects for corruption, greed, lies, and a total lack of honor or human decency; it was the ruskies' lie and it took decades for us to believe it even with our own government reinforcing it after they saw how useful it could be to bring the whole populace down to their level, but luckily I was born AFTER that particular fake war (right around the time our second to latest real civil war started :smile.gif:)(oh, and to people in the countries that russia and the us pissed all over to make their mutual effort to get their populations under the proper thumbs, I'm not trying to diminish what happened to your folks, but honestly gov'ts have been burning people up for fun and profit since the dawn of history, if you're supporting any type of traditional gov't for a false illusion of security then you really don't have much right to *****, because the same thing is being done in your name right NOW, and you can bet on it).
So yeah, I hope not, but while notch is a cool dude and all, he also seems to be somewhat fascinated with the glitter of gold :tongue.gif: I think that w/ something like xbl, sanctioned theft, he would go for it. But hell, I don't have a machine that can run MC right now, and I could buy some newage gamer's perfectly working unit with a scratched diode or a worn out tray motor for a couple bucks and fix it for a few more, then hack it, then play mc on it... wait, screw it, I could go out and hack an xbox for a crappy computer anyway... would a hacked xbox be powerful enough to run MC as it is now (obviously any version thats meant to run on it will be optimized to the tee to run on such a dukey system)? This whole rant might have actually produced something useful lol... craigslist time :biggrin.gif:

By DLC I think he means updates.
Updates are always free on the Xbox, and I can't believe this topic exists because, like I said before, updates are always free.
He might implement some of the most popular mods into completely stable version and release them as an optional DLC (Finite Water, MCMMO, Aether, Elemental Creepers, MoMonsters) and have new dimensions that are added in the future be a DLC. Impossible to know for sure though.

"My Parents should be proud that i'm not addicted to drugs, unfortunately i'm addicted to minecraft."
Will there be island expansions or mods or texture packs? OR SOMETHING COMPLETELY NEW?!
i have gameinformer and here is whati says abou minecraft
first off gameinfromer gave it a 9.25 out of 10
econd they go on saying that it will be a arcade game ps for ppl who dont know no it wont be on a disc it will be located under the game marketplace section under arcade you can go into game marketplace right now and under the letter m is minecraft but then they go on to say such as for the DLC in minecraft microsoft has said that all texturepacks and mods that were in the pc version might be dlcs but they say that the texture packs will be DLC'S BUT THEY DONT KNOW how much they will cost they also on to say that mojang and microsoft has both said it will be coming in spring 2012.
ps guys since its a arcade game and its going to be on the marketplace it will prob be 15$ or 20$ in microsoft points aka thats 1200 or 1600 ms points and as far as the game how much memory it will take up prob 1GB at the most plus the dlc they might add in the future and the texture packs might make it more memory but just for the game it should actually be in the mb rang wich stands for mega bites as we all know but yea not very many arcade game are 1GB so dont expet the game to take up that much memory i hope that answers all of your questions.
Also i hope they arent the type to take out content just to leave it as "new" dlc. like say if they release the game but its only creation mode, thus you need to buy survival, plus you might need to buy a mob pack, or some other pack.

DLC 2: The Origins of Steve?
DLC 3: The Aether?
I'd buy those and play them so much.
I didn't read anything past M$.
Anyways. I likey the idea of dlc textures. I wouldn't be surprised if that is something they're thinking about in regards to dlc.
By DLC I think he means updates.
Updates are always free on the Xbox, and I can't believe this topic exists because, like I said before, updates are always free.
There will be no mods because Microsoft does not allow 3rd party things on the Xbox 360.
generation. Social experiment.
It probably means the games
He'll put it in as expansion pack or opitions
i have gameinformer and here is whati says abou minecraft
first off gameinfromer gave it a 9.25 out of 10
econd they go on saying that it will be a arcade game ps for ppl who dont know no it wont be on a disc it will be located under the game marketplace section under arcade you can go into game marketplace right now and under the letter m is minecraft but then they go on to say such as for the DLC in minecraft microsoft has said that all texturepacks and mods that were in the pc version might be dlcs but they say that the texture packs will be DLC'S BUT THEY DONT KNOW how much they will cost they also on to say that mojang and microsoft has both said it will be coming in spring 2012.
ps guys since its a arcade game and its going to be on the marketplace it will prob be 15$ or 20$ in microsoft points aka thats 1200 or 1600 ms points and as far as the game how much memory it will take up prob 1GB at the most plus the dlc they might add in the future and the texture packs might make it more memory but just for the game it should actually be in the mb rang wich stands for mega bites as we all know but yea not very many arcade game are 1GB so dont expet the game to take up that much memory i hope that answers all of your questions.
Now how the hell could there be island expansions? How could that work? Every island is randomly generated. They should only do the top mods.
