I'm starting to think this (and the hellish movie) is marketed almost exclusively to twelve year olds that would buy anything with "Minecraft" printed on it. I can't image anyone fifteen and up actually buying this for themselves, it takes away what makes minecraft fun.

This exactly. ^ It's all just one huge marketing campaign. "Buy this, and while you're at it, go ahead and buy the actual game". Please, it's just pathetic.
I don't think adding a story mode actually takes away the sandbox part, like, there'll still be the option of not doing story mode, and just playing normal singleplayer. It would be stupid not to.
If people want to play story mode, good for them. If they want to play regular singleplayer, good for them too. It's their choice.

I absolutely despise DLC and that's all Telltale Games does.
What are you talking about? Telltale has only ever released like one DLC and it was two hours long.

Every game they do is DLC. You have to buy each episode separately. You have to pay to download more content in order to progress in the game.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. I will face my fear. I will let it pass over me and through me, and when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

That's not how it works at all. You either buy all five episodes for like 40 - 60 bucks (probably less) and you'll receive them as soon as they're out, or you pay separately for each one as they come out. There is no DLC involved.

What about future episodes (if it ends of making enough money for the first five)?

Then they make a season two, like a TV show, which is a completely different game that carries over your choices from the first season.

Story mode is not a new gamemode, it's a completely new game.
Why people hate it? Because it's against the core of Minecraft itself, and because it's a different game. Minecraft is what it is because of the freedom of doing whatever you want, I don't know how popular "Story mode" will be.
The comments are still there. But reading them is not a pleasant experience.
I don't dislike what it is - intact I don't care - I dislike the way it depicts the game to people who have never heard of it. Imagine making a story mode game out of Gary's Mod. It's the same sort of thing.
It's getting a lot of hate because it's Youtube. And it's the internet. People don't bother to stop and think about all the angry comments they just blurt out and post hate comments about anything they happen to not like. They don't seem to get that just because they don't like it, that doesn't mean it's horrible. For example, I'm not a fan of violins. But that doesn't make them stupid or anything. If I said that, I would be basing my statements on my own selfish desires and opinions and not considering the world outside of my own perspective. I mean, it's ok to state your opinion that you dislike it, but think twice before saying it's a horrible idea and thinking Telltale Games or Mojang is stupid because they're making it. Just because it doesn't involve or interest you doesn't mean you should bash it and hate on it.
And anyway, Story Mode is just another game that you don't have to play if you don't want to, so why would anyone get upset in the first place? (And in case anyone is confused, Story Mode is not a literal new gameplay mode for Minecraft. It's an entirely new story-based game based off of Minecraft.)
The internet is almost always black and white. If you say you don't like something, that means you have it...
The reason is simple: It's too different from Minecraft. Everyone knows Minecraft as a "Do what you want! Go where you want! Want a story? Get a custom map!" kind of game. Making a story-based game off a makes people think Mojang and Telltale are saying: "This is the story of Minecraft. Nothing else, just this, DEAL WITH IT." They're really saying, "It's like an adventure map, but better! "
That's what I'm a little worried about. People new to MC will play this first, then wonder what one earth the rest of us are doing.
'Where's the castle?'
'OMG! A zombie! Kill iiiiiiiitttttt!' *cue dramatic chords*
No. It won't it will just seem like Mojang is trying to suck the money out of our pockets. They might as well make us pay $5 every month to play minecraft itself. MInecraft becomes a bigger community because of youtubers. You don't see someone want the game because they saw a Minecraft shirt.
There way of selling their games is really dumb. It is mostly just to create hype over the same game. You could probably even recreate this game in minecraft using redstone. Also I don't really like the characters they seem kind of dumb. The story seems like it will just be about going to the nether which in fact isn't even the true objective in the game. It is to go to the End and beat the Ender Dragon. The Nether is more of a side quest than an objective.
If you could put your own character in, and train the computer to pronounce your name, then +100 stars.
Well, there is no absolute true objective, but the End is there for people who want one.
Awful. Just awful. The animations are so poor and so are the graphics
and lighting. This, something that I had very high hopes for, is not a
train wreak. I really do not understand how they messed up this so bad.
There were some of the worst cutscenes I have ever scene. Not to
mention, from the look of it, did iron and things make a stone sword...?
GG.. It just looks awful, the lighting looks like a low end shader, the
mouth movements are so off sync, its like I am play Sonic DX.. The
eyebrows were GLITCHING! IN A CUT SCENE! I mean REALLY! Gamecube games,
from the early 2000's, were not that buggy. This might as well be a Lego
game.
Minecraft Story Mode isn't a button in Minecraft, it is its own game. From the looks of it, it's running on top of the same engine that TellTale's Lego games are using; in other words, I really doubt what's being shown in the Youtube previews is a 'movie' per se, I believe it's a bunch of scenes that are being rendered within the game engine itself. If you're expecting an open-world sandbox Minecraft adventure, this isn't it. But if you want a directed adventure within a stylized environment similar to something you'd see in a quality Minecraft video, then this is definitely your game.
It looks like a fun diversion. It's definitely not the game Minecraft. It looks more like a linear adventure game that tells a story of Minecraft. Will I buy it? I don't know. TellTale games is pretty good at spinning a yarn, and I've always enjoyed the fun and humor found in the Lego series of games. As it stands, I'll probably watch a few Let's Play videos after its release and, if it looks like fun, I might buy it.

Uhh... are you sure you're not confusing Telltale Games with Travellers' Tales? Because Travellers' Tales makes most of the Lego video games, not Telltale Games.
And anyway, from the phrase "your story, your choices" or something like that, it would appear as though this game has a branching storyline that can follow different routes depending on player decisions, which sounds pretty cool.
Oh come on, I don't see how anyone could not be hyped for this. It looks spectacular. Seriously, a proper interactive animated high quality Minecraft video. Have a go at this and tell me it was stupid and boring:
It was stupid and boring. It's like watching a lets play without commentary, which makes it very pointless. It also had lots of slowing looking around moments which are boring.
It's still a completely different game with a different story. It's not like a TV show where you have to wait for the next season to see the next part of the story, the main story always finishes itself at the end.
Example: Walking Dead Season 1 was about a guy named Lee handling stuff, and the story wrapped itself up at the end. Walking Dead Season 2 was about a girl named Clementine who was mentored by Lee, and the story wrapped itself up at the end. Season 3 will probably be about an older Clem, who will have a new storyline that will wrap itself up at the end. All the additional seasons do is continue the characters, it's not a scheme to get more moneh.
