Describe how this would be useful, you described absolutely nothing to support this, period.
The mechanic of a halfslab allows it to be used as a full block in certain circumstances with additional properties, or a transparent block if placed appropriately, this alone is incredibly useful in various situations, a glass block could do none of this & its sole purpose would be aesthetic, this being said, glass is already translucent & fully transparent when placed beside another, as with all halfslabs, only the same-type slab can be used to occupy the same block space, meaning you're very limited on its use as glass, this would suit absolutely 0 purpose to any mechanic, & as such you get 0 support from me :/
I believe the both of you are missing the point. They don't necessarily need to have some blatant practical use to them to be nice. The entire point of Minecraft is to be a giant sandbox. And the number of aesthetic blocks should make that quite evident.
Please allow me to give a few other examples. Would you like to have transparent stairs in your underground base, exposing a massive pool of lava beneath? Perhaps you have a floor of half-slabs and have inlaid Glowstone to keep the room lit. Glass Half-Slabs could cover the Glowstone to keep the floor level, without obscuring the light they project. Or, maybe, you would like a wall of Glass, one-and-a-half blocks high.
I'm certain I've made my point. I had assumed that such a simple suggestion didn't need to be backed up with an arguement to state it's relevance. Mayhap I've overestimated the number of creatively inclined players on this edition. Regardless, my apologies for any confusion or lacunae in my original post. I hope this has cleared things up.
There are panes already, and I think half-slabs would be awesome.
I don't think they would be that useful.
Have you never used glass as a floor or ceiling before?
