To start off I'm a redstone engineer for PS4 and some of my maps lag cause I happen to make very good use of the redstone stuff we currently have, to the point where if too many of my devices are running or if my big item sorter is running it lags aton, making the map sometimes unplayable. I've even helped 4J Studio with some bugs in the past sending them demo video's of some bugs that luckily they did happen to fix.
Why does it seem to me MineCraft is dead or dieing?
We'll first when was the last redstone addition you saw added to PS4? When was the last redstone performance improvement, seems well over a year ago right? I know you're thinking dev "The PS4 isnt powerful enough or you have too much cool stuff in your map". Oh tho we have a fully state of the art custom PC we can run our console servers from so we dont have all that lag? NO!
Ya but you can't you switch to a PC if the PS4 MineCraft experience isn't enough for you?
NO, first off even if someone wanted to switch to PC or switch from PC to PS4 for that matter, there is no current way to convert your map that you pull your heart and soul into over to a different system. Second some people can play on PC and even have state of the art PC but prefer the PS4 due to its ease of use and simpler to socialize no 3rd party communication app to install of server details to ask for you just simply connect. After a long day at work or school people can grab a controller and relax on a couch instead of having to sit in a chair at a desk.
Ya but you can suggest these great ideas and they will head them right?
No, several suggestion for great stuff like PC based servers or PS4 Pro support are left unheard in the suggestion section of the forum. If they wanted to give even the slight bit of hope you'd think they would at least post and say "Sounds like a good idea I'll forward it to our dev team leader but so promises"
Ya but doesn't Microsoft, Mojang or 4J Studios care about advanced MineCraft players?
It doesn't seem like it with no word on fixing redstone lag or bringing True Servers to PS4, we're left wondering why even keep MineCraft on our PS4's. And when other use to bash on MineCraft saying its for little kids only, I use to defend the game saying how great the redstone is and how much can be done with it but as the company and dev's don't seem to show any concern, I'm left thinking they are right if redstone can't good work because of lag then we are left with little more then a little kids building block game.
The question now is will this post be silence and removed, might enough people rise up and speak up about this, or have all the advanced players all already given up hope? I know I'm close to the point of giving up but maybe my voice will be heard and hope will be restored.
Well the new addition of observer blocks shows its not totally dead its a step in the right direction just hope they do more redstone and performance work hope these new updates help with that ill be testing it out soon after a long while away from Minecraft.
u seem like the right person to ask. I also play on ps4 but also was even a co-owner on a Pixelmon server. but I like ps4 and my world and all that so I get it!!!and my friendsher. but aside from that
can I ask to get a dummy explanation for the observer block. didn't really under stand it. is it for testing while making Redstone stuff or is it something totally different? and does really chest sorting work here?? Candy

Basically if the space in front of the observer block changes it sends a redstone signal.
I used them to make an automated sugar cane farm.
Just search youtube. There are plenty of videos with examples on what they do.
Makes redstoners even rarer:/ The idea is, redstone is really complexe and some people comes up with unbelievable ideas, if Mojang was to come up with a new update, let's say, fix the BUD which isn't an official Mc feature. Well! 25 to 30% of complexe builts will be gone, adding new features is not like making new skins or a new block for aesthetics, it's far more complicated! Your point still remains hard to answer huh? Lets say redstone is for tinkerer and mc is for young gamers and which of the two is the biggest audience? Yup. so they focus on them:/ Btw if you're interested I have a redstone world with a bunch of contraptions if you're interested:p Or if you have one I'd be happy to build some of the contraption i have!
My newest item sorter design using packed ice and water and using the a dropper into glass for item elevator that finally works on ps4 has helped along with the game updates. Now my sorter can sort 480 different item instead of 300 and it does it 10 times as fast with far less lag. This all being done in survival, creative maps tend to have less lag not fully sure maybe the spawn limit for friendly mobs is lower not sure why lag is less. Any ways hopefully with this Better Together update Sony will come to their senses and accept the update or we're gonna have problems. BTW if you want to see some of my stuff search youtube for repairmant87 big city map. My survival map is only offline at the moment waiting till we tighty up the castles to post it only but we're been working on it for a few years on and off its coming along well.
I don't think Minecraft is dying, it may not be as popular as it was in the past though. Still, Mojang, and Microsoft earn THOUSANDS of dollars per day! Microsoft also is making great business decisions, if Microsoft also hadn't bought it, Mojang would be dead once and for all by now. Microsoft is being a little greedy with these DLC packs but they are making the experience better! Also they are funding Minecraft's updates and development. The "Better Together" Update also is a first in the gaming industry! I mean, connecting and cross-playing with someone who is using a cell-phone to a person playing on an Xbox One? What?! Although the fact that this update will come the PS4 is anonymous. Still, Minecraft is NOT dead, though Microsoft may be making look like that.

I have to admit, since the recent patch ... I am less inclined to complain. One of my biggest gripes was the chaotic biomes - the latest additions do a lot to make that much more comfortable for me. I can have large-sized biomes and enjoy living in a much more entertaining and limited challenge,
The infinite world size of the Better Together version of Minecraft, should it wiggle its way to the PS4, would be another positive telling point.
And I like the new block textures. We got the llamas, the observer blocks... we are catching up nicely.
This mainly just leaves those scaddy furnace carts, which still lose power when tracking around corners. I can't build efficient Stone-Class item transport networks until they work right. Instead I have to wait until I can gather enough iron and gold..

I will be honest, it's not pretty.
We should have a VR patch for the PSVR by now.
Instead we are getting minigames and skin packs... It's getting milked for butter money. They are gleaning the easy dollar from the 7 year old.
Ah yes that's another topic I missed I would love to use my PSVR with minecraft too
