I'm new to PS4 and Minecraft. I've only been playing for about 3 weeks.
I found a spider spawner but can't get more than 8 in my farm at once. I wait for more to spawn before I kill them and 8 is the max.
I built a 15x15 room around the spawner. The ceiling is 3 blocks above the spawner with 2 blocks of cobblestone on top of the spawner to prevent them from spawning on top and climbing on the ceiling. The floor is 3 blocks below. Water pushes them all toward me and I kill them through a hole in the wall with a Bane of Arthropods IV Unbreaking III sword.
The spawner is at Y: 62. Everything outside the cave is lit up. I have explored all the caves in this mountain where I found the spawner and lit those caves up.
I found a second spider spawner in one of the caves in this mountain and disabled it with torches. Its not spawning any spiders.
I'm guessing the spawner won't spawn more than 8 because the live ones are so close to the spawner? So I need a deeper floor for them to fall farther away from the spawner?
Is there a cap limit for mob spawning within a certain area of the player? Or within a certain area of the spawner? I'd hate to build a big ol' 15x15 x 15 pit and still get only 8 spiders at once. I've got conflicting information (youtube) about XP mob farms and consoles working or not working.
Ok. So I dug that sucker down 15 blocks. So the whole room is 15x15x15!! lol. They still land in water that pushes them to me. I don't have any crawling up the walls. I'm getting around 30-35 spiders spawning in 5 minutes which is around 1.5 sixteen+ levels. I'm not certain but I think it spawns more when I'm standing up on the same level as the spawner. I can knock a couple blocks out and stand at the top (while crouching lol) and count.
I'm playing with my 10 year son and he once fell into the pit right after I had just killed a huge mess of spiders. Luckily there were none in there but he still screamed like a girl!!! Then we laughed!!!! It was quite funny. lol
Anyway, I'm getting way more to spawn now. Before... it would spawn about 8 spiders and then no more. I waited for 5 or 6 minutes and it just wouldn't spawn any more. Again, my guess is because they were to close to the spawner. But I'm getting better results now.
I'm gonna do some more tests and report back. I wonder what the cap is? I do get some performance lag/jitters with splitscreen and 30+ spiders spawned. I wonder how many it will spawn in 30 minutes in single player.
Perhaps I'll end up changing my design to include some hoppers and an almost fall kill drop area so I can just kill them with my hands.
Anyway... I hope this helps some other noob. (Do they still have noobs in minecraft or am I the last one? :-O)
This is encouraging, as my friends and I were struggling to farm skeletons (only 2 would spawn every 30 seconds). I guess I'll have to break away the original dungeon walls and expand in all directions. Thanks for sharing.

I'm gonna buy a cheap bouquet before it dies on the display.
Ever since I updated minecraft mobs are not spawning from the spawner........I have the traditional 9x9 box where they fall into the water and get pushed up a chute.....I been playing minecraft for years and I have never had any issues, until now.
