Gold is more precious to me than diamonds, diamonds i usually have a surplus of,but as i'm forever building powered railways everywhere(eventually planning to cover my entire survival world in a rail network,IF the game doesn't corrupt/reset large chunks of map on me,which is an ever present risk with this game it seems) i can never have enough gold.
I'd like a system that could break any item back down into it's components... I always end up with a crap load of fences, and I'd love to break them back down into sticks... Armor back into ingots, either gold, iron, diamond, etc... The only exception would be breaking things back down into their raw resource form... For example, cannot convert planks back into logs, but you could break wooden steps back down into planks, etc...
This would be a great feature to add the option to smelt down armor like diamond/gold/iron to the base material and depending on how much duration is left in the armor depend on the random roll factor of the output amounts maybe or just a set amount based on the duration left.

I'd love to smelt down gold armour.
I do that too. so same for me.
Even if it weren't for rail, gold blocks are definitely a good decoration.
"Sure would be cool if I could smelt those into even a single gold ingot!"
That is all.... Thank you for listening.
Agreed. ^^
The armor is worth even less than the gold. xD
Excuse me? You can craft clocks as well, and blocks of gold for decoration and storage.
Check out Mineplex, it's a very
popularcrappy server.I'm stuck at home , yay!
Oi, do you want to change the world? Yup
Then get off your bottom and see how many things you can do to help the environment.

Gold is not useless.
Gold can be crafted into: Clocks, gold block, gold nugget, a golden apple and a powered rail
With the gold nugget you can make: a golden melon for healing potion and a golden carrot for night vision
With a gold block you can make a god apple.
You can use gold to trade with blacksmith villagers for a emerald.
You can use gold tools for a pvp arena if you are playing on a multiplier world.
If you are playing on a multiplier world gold can be used as a trading currency.
Don't say gold is useless!
"Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? ...He's a mile away and you've got his shoes"
It isn't if you happen to do all of those things. Which I'm willing to bet most of us don't.
So for most of us, it pretty much is useless.
