One of the things I dislike about redstone is how simple things just needs so much space to be built. I've been trying to create a simple 2x2 hidden door, but in as compact a manner as I can. I've been looking for tutorials, but every single tutorial never takes it far enough. They build a basic frame for the door and redstone, and always put the lever on top as a direct input. This really kind of defeats the purpose of a "hidden" door if the lever is right there on the wall where the door is hidden. Plus, everyone uses levers, which suck for doors because they're always on or always off. If I shut a door with a lever from the inside, it cannot be opened again from the outside.
So I'm looking for a tutorial that shows a compact (if possible) redstone design, that works with buttons from either the inside or the outside, and the input isn't right there on top of the structure. A button that might be placed 10-15 blocks away from the main "hidden" door.
I'm not sure what you mean by how I want the door to look? Flush in a wall that leads to a room behind it, activated by a button that is inside as well as another button outside the door, but not placed right next to the door, maybe 10 15 blocks away (for the outside button, the inside button can be close). Preferably, the outside button wouldn't be on the same wall as the door altogether...
Buttons are the easiest about this, making it flush on a wall, not so much. I'll make something, then I'll give you my psn and let you hop on to see it, so you don't waste x amount of mins on a video that isn't what you wanted

I appreciate the offer, but I don't do any sort of multiplayer, getting on other people worlds, or them on mine. I'm odd that way...
When you say making it flush isn't easy... I don't mean the button to be flush, but the 2x2 doors themselves. Just a regular 2x2 hidden door, using buttons instead of levers, and compact. I already have a working 2x2 hidden door, but the redstone circuit is large, and it uses levers. The issue with levers is if I close the doors using the lever on the inside, I cannot re-open it using the lever on the outside. This is why I want to use buttons. And I'd like to not have to dig up half a moiuntain in order to wire it together.
pretty sure this is what you're looking for. Also you can always replace a lever of button or pressure plate with another input tool, all you have to do is lead redstone up to that input item
Except it's not very compact. I like some of the things people have been able to figure out about redstone, and putting it to good use, but it requires so much space... I'm hoping to find one that is a little bit more compact and not as large and unwieldy... Thanks though...
What version of Minecraft is on the PS4? I found what I think is a good compact design, also using buttons, takes up very little space, but it's for Minecraft 1.5, and I don't know if it'll work in the console version. I suppose my best bet is to just try it... If it works, I'll let you know here.
[EDIT] Nevermind, this compact design doesn't seem to work. It does if one uses BUD, which I'm not a big fan of. This compact design only activates the top set of pistons, and not the bottom ones. Bummer...
I did eventually find a more compact version, and figured ouit how to create an XOR gate so the levers worked as expected from either inside or outside... Here is the youtube video showing a more compact version: as well as the video I used to learn how to create an XOR gate: Combined together, I got the door I wanted and even though the XOR gate increased the size of my circuit, the door circuit itself is very small and compact.

done a lot of this on pc but with all the redstone bugs in the game right now i haven't even tested any of my pc builds. if any of them work i can let you join my redstone world and look at it first hand.
EDIT: instead of levers on pc there is a way to put a redstone torch on a specific block and have it trigger the secret door so the whole thing is hidden.

Can anyone help out with this request?
You'd be incorrect if that's the assumption you're making.
