I just found out that 4J stated that they will never be adding the Book and Quill to the console version because not everyone has a USB keyboard.
Can anybody explain to me exactly what goes through their heads when they make these decisions? Newsflash: some of us DO have USB keyboards, and those who do not are NOT forced to use the Book and Quill if they do not want to. We're dropping money on this game (some of us for the second or third time on console alone) and I really don't think we should find ourselves limited for a reason as poor as this.
I saw that awhile ago too. I do think they will change their minds though. The Book and Quill would give a new use to ink and would be good for role play/adventure worlds. Or just writing short stories and putting them in a library (what I would do). And I'm absolutely fine with typing them out with my controller.
Actually, from what I was told it's not just the keyboard issue but a matter of content filtering. We have or most of us have see "awaiting approval" on signs in online games. The reason for that is the content filters have to check for inappropriate content written on the signs. With books they can't do that because the books are closed and the content is not visible until opened, or some such reason. Be that as it may, I totally agree that it is bs and that in my and obviously many other people's opinions that excluding the book and quill is major let down. I had some big plans for the book and quill in adventure maps and custom survival maps. It's a disappointment but what can we do? Enjoy what we get is all I can say.
