This must be a bug then because sony said this would never happen, contact them and report this so they can fix it. They promised and even wrote it in the manual that only one account on the console would need + for all of its players to go online
I'm the one out there every day putting his ass on the line. And I'm not out of order. You're out of order. The whole freakin' system is out of order. You want the truth? You want the truth? You can't HANDLE the truth. 'Cause when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo that was your best friend's face, you'll know what to do. Forget about it, its Chinatown
THIS IS FALSE. COMPLETE LIES. Hoverdonkey, please to not say lies and make other members apprehensive. I am playing PS4 right now. Only one account has PS plus, and yet all three of my friends are able to do splitscreen with me using their OWN PSN ID's.

You do not need PS plus for all users in split screen to play online, just the main user. I have noticed though if you are playing online and the second person decided to pop in, it does not allow it sometimes and says they need PS plus. Try logging in at the home screen with all players before launching minecraft. works for me this way.
No . You both need PS4 Accounts . Only player 1 needs PS PLUS . And if you're playing offline then no one needs ps plus but you stil both need your own account .
What about a guest player, can they play online too?
Correct. That's what I was reading in the wiki.
PSN+ players can pop into a game at anytime.
PSN players have to be set up (by the host with a PSN+ account) before hand.

What if you're not the host and you're joining into someones game?
But I think I know what your asking: can I just join an online game with only a PSN account?
IF you only have a PSN account, and IF the host sets you up to join the game ahead of time (ie, before he starts the game), then yes you can.
IF you want to join someone's online world mid-game, then you need a PSN+ account.... and, of course, if the host has already added you to his friends list.

"PSN players have to be set up (by the host with a PSN+ account) before hand."
Since you specifically said "by the host" it made it seem like the only non PS + players that could play online would have to be playing through the same system as the host.
Can two people....One having PS + and the other just having a PSN account join a hosted game?
Glad to hear it I actually paid for a second psn plus account and feel dumb now lol. Thanks for the tip of signing in before loading the game. I will give it a try.
update: Worked !! Thank you so much.
If you were' sitting side-by-side in your living room (on one ps4), you wouldn't.
But can you all be online?
What about a guest player, can they play online too?
They should fix that for PS4
