thanks for posting the news. I switched over to PS4 yesterday so I have no games until minecraft comes out. I am so completely sad but if it was bad enough to fail we are probably better off waiting. I just hope PS4 still gets minecraft first.
So 2 more weeks from today is September 3. But it will still have to be sent back to Sony for certified testing to start again. So September 3 to 13 seems a realistic target date now.
This is what I think, and I've been wrong before, this recent event has proven that, but!
I do not know much about Sony Cert testing but, it is more than likely that a few things failed, certain mechanics / bugs were found. I think 4J should be able to isolate and rectify these bugs, in hopes of maintaining a August release (Which is now impossible) However, we know that Cert testing takes two weeks (14 working days, not weekends), so that if 4J were to send off another PS4 Minecraft version now, the release would be September 10th.
Unfortunately, the world doesn't work like that so it will more than likely take 4J the rest of August and maybe a part of September to patch the PS4 version as well as finish the XBOne and Vita versions.
Brace yourself for a late September release.
All I can hope for is a shortened timeline. Since 4J don't tell us **** about anything, all I can really do is use the maximum time frames, anything shorter will be a blessing.
Looking at the dates, it took Sony 9 days to do the Cert test, and that is including weekends. I don't know if they stopped as soon as they found something wrong, or they kept going to find as much bugs as possible. Lets continue to assume that they will take the rest of August to bug fix, it will most likely be released near or around 10th of Sept.
From their tweet, it seems like 4J know what needs to be fixed and are working hard on it, so the quicker they take to patch it, the shorter will have to wait into Sept. Fingers crossed!
I didn't play Minecraft on 360 (Didn't have a PS3) so I can't give an opinion on that, but look at a game called Sniper: Ghost Warrior, and its sequel. I'm amazed people let **** like that go to market.
Destiny will be out by the time this game gets released and tbh I am more looking forward to playing that and will spend more time on it. I wanted minecraft to keep me occupied until this game comes out so I doubt many people will get straight into minecraft if it gets released at the same time (or just after) destin.
Minecraft should have really been released on ps4 release date. They had plenty of time to work with ps4 and it's not like it's a new game they've made it on so many other platforms before it should have been even easier to make on ps4. Just lazy programming.
Oh, but it is a new game. Remember, the PC version is written in Java, while the PS4 is written in C++. It an entire re write of the code, of course there is going to be a lot of bugs, but I do agree that they've had a long time to get this right, only to screw it up in the last week before launch. But, we will be better off when there are less bugs.
Just to clear up some confusion, a failure to pass first-party console specifications is not an indication of "They released a buggy Minecraft" and it may not be "Oh, they'll fix up those bugs really quickly." Console specifications are incredibly rigorous and very small performance shortcomings can fail an entire test (for example: a common test run is a soak test, in which the tester runs the game for a very, very long period of time, in order to see how much RAM a game leaks. This is a very easy test to fail).
Submitting a game to a console manufacturer for testing is exorbitantly expensive. I suspect Mojang will take their time making sure their next master is going to pass before forking over the several-thousand-dollar fee a second time.
