A lot of this has been reported already, but I want to give my personal experience.
PS3 firmware is up to date.
Updated to patch 1.39 from 1.38.
When trying to manually save game it will often hang. It goes to a save screen and does nothing. Even if you wait several minutes. Saving every 5-10 seems to help, but does not always work.
When in the END the game will cut to a black screen and then return to the PS3's main menu. All my attempts at saving inside the END, has resulted in the game hanging on the save screen.
The mob spawners in my game world worked when first encountered, but then change to a pig spawner. No longer spawing enemies.
Not a bug, but I find it very strange that on the opening of the game, if not connected to PSN, the dialogue window that asks if you wish to connect has changed, once again, to not allow a simple pressing of the circle button to decline. Instead you must press down (or up) and then the cross button to select "Remain Offline". I do not understand why this keeps changing, or why it would ever be the more difficult of the two.
On a personal note, I am very disappointed in this patch. Surely you were away of the problems before releasing this to the public. It took me less than fifteen minutes to encounter the first problems. It's Christmas eve, and I am going to have lots of family over. I was hoping the children would be able to enjoy the game (and the game worlds I created for them). But not being able to revert to a stable working version of the game makes it unlikely they will get to play it at all.

Having the same exact problem as well. Random play time (could be 10mins or 30min) and had to constantly save to make it.
This is was mostly noticed when defeating the dragon or while still fighting, the screen goes blank and kicks me back to the ps daskboard
i have never had this problem before
Other problems I have noticed:
-throwing arrows is glitching. It either drops in its spot at full strength, or freezes mid air but still shows it hit the target
-the game randomly lags during normal playtime
-TNT taking significantly longer to explode
-game won't save or exit sometimes just gets stuck at the progress bar

so annoying
here is a suggestion to you. LEARN HOW TO PLAY without needing glitches... "GLITCHES" are bugs in the game and need to be fixed and removed. as he said YOU clearly are upset that someone wants it removed because YOU use it. your logic is in another reality. you have nothing more to say other than do't play there. lol you sir need to run on back to the game and use it as long as you can because it WILL be patched i will bet anything on it now run along kiddo.
See, your logic is flawed here. Learning how to play in a SANDBOX game? A game in which you can do whatever you want, (almost)? I mean, building contraptions to speed up farming animals, food, mobs etc in in the spirit of creativity. Ok, tnt canons? I mean, that is what? allowed? I am sure the designers didn't think this is what it would be used for.
Where would you draw the lines? Glitching diamonds and materials, I can see there being an issue. But a glitch into seeing through blocks is almost no different than using a helmet enchantment to see better in the water. Or a flotation enchantment to hover in the air, a backpack that lets you glide. Potions that let you walk and swim in lava.
Anyone can make an argument for glitches. Hell, mumbojumbo makes a good living off of finding the glitches and making videos of it and your going to tell a person he doesn't know how to play?
PS3, PS4, Xbox360 and Xboxone. = Glitches. Pc = Mods. lol. According to the developers creepers were born from a glitch. So, didnt they patch it? No. Why? Because it is a sandbox game. If a person doesn't like a glitcher, kick them out. Its that simple. The advantage of a xray is not as great as people think. Ooo, caves. Spawners... oh no... game ruined. lol.
I see the texture pack crash bug is still around for some players...
If I play with the "Natural" texture pack, my game will crash with "Minecraft has stopped working and can no longer continue" after about 30 minutes... EVERYONE, PLAY WITH THE DEFAULT TEXTURE PACK IF YOU ARE HAVING THIS CRASH ISSUE. We had this issue back in 1.35 and it came back ever since 1.37... I stopped playing the game for a while, it's nice to see the bug is still here lol.
Experiencing severe lag and frame rate drops whenever I'm on my base. It's giving me terrible headaches. If I move off of it a good distance lag stops and frame rates return to normal. This began after recent patch following tu46.
Also, zombie spawners keep changing from regular zombie to villager zombies. This isn't random spawns either, but within the spawner itself. Not a bad glitch as it doesn't seem to affect output at all, but definitely an odd one.
THE NEW UPDATE IS ****ED (ps3). You can't see names/you can't rename animals, you can't have more that 1 person playing without the fps dropping by half(didn't have this problem before) and pis tons don't work if you have more than 4 going. Nothing else seems to have changed other than that... but you never know. Also it completely ****ed all my old saves.
New update has very ugly (very low bitrate) sounds. Worst when digging to dirt, cutting trees. Another problem with sound is big volume difference - like between cutting (i know why its so quiet! its wost than digging sound) and digging. I knows its only esthetic, but on early updates it was alright. I guess the repair will be easy. Or no?
I don't have the issue with volume differences, but the low-bitrate sounds were likely put in place to save on bandwidth and thus performance.
Anyways, a survival world that I've had since 2013 is starting to exhibit some real performance issues. It appeared after the 1.40 update. I didn't have this problem before 1.40, and I don't have this problem in any other world - even ones that are much more built-up, so I have to wonder if its age has anything to do with it.
I know PS3 is really outdated, have only 500 Mb. But is it really so necessary to have such poor sound quality?
I can only assume that, because it hasn't been changed yet, and because it isn't present on the PS4/One, 4J decided it was necessary.

Tried to get in to my main survival world today, but the game hung on the "Initializing Server" screen.
Image:
I can tell when the problem is about to happen. If you click a world and immediately see "Loading spawn area..." above the progress bar, you're good-to-go, but if you don't, well, you'll get this.
I let it sit for about 10 minutes, hoping it was just a slow load, but to no avail. The progress bar stays empty. Pressing the power button on the PS3 triggers three beeps, with either a system restart or shutdown following that.
I've restarted the game several times. I've even went in to different worlds that did work, and then tried loading this one...nothing.
Really disheartening. This was probably my most "successful" world. 400+ hours. What a shame.
Its happen me too. But i lost "only" 10hours. F%%% on sound, this is critical major bug. I am sad for your world..
At least I'm not the only one experiencing it, then.
As I stated a few posts ago, I've never had problems like this before 1.40. In fact, the only big issues I ever remember having with the PS3 Edition were few and far between - only two. Once, some time last year when "Failed to Load" errors were popping up everywhere, and then one time on release day (December 17th, 2013) when my first world corrupted.
The infrequency of my issues was what initially made me hopeful. Maybe this isn't full-blown world loss, and is instead just a problem with loading, or maybe I'm just in denial.
If all is gone, I think I'll be taking a long hiatus from this game.

I'm gonna buy a cheap bouquet before it dies on the display.

It seems like this issue has extended to saving as well. When the autosave screen appears, I get the same blank loading bar with no text above it.
Game over, I guess.

Could you copy that world to a USB and upload it to mediafire so we can take a look?

My game hangs up too when saving. It happens often enough now that I tense up when I see auto save counting down, cross my fingers and hold my breath. There does not seem to be a cause to it. I used to think it was due to moving or being active right at save, but it appears to be random with no correalation to anything. I tried taking it off auto save but it doesn't make any difference whether I save manually or not, it will hang up and there's nothing to be done, nothing to prevent it. So i just save every fifteen minutes and hope for the best.
Update: Just today, my 2013 Survival world fell victim to this same issue (freezes on loading, and blank progress bars). That was my last unaffected world.

We've been making changes to the way we deal with the UI.
This should free up a large chunk of memory and stop the Failed to Load issue from occurring.
I've marked the Bug as fixed on the Jira database (Every instance of this bug from worlds we have been sent no longer occurs)
We should see this fix roll out within the next few weeks (Not got a confirmed date yet)

Thank you for the followup, though UI was the last thing I would've thought when trying to narrow down a cause for this. Best of luck.
The entire issue boils down to the amount of Memory we have available.
The UI tool we use on all platforms (Excluding 360) drains a massive amount of memory - It's only really apparent on PS3 however.
A few members of the team have spent the past 4-6 months writing a custom UI that massively decreases the amount of memory used when it comes to drawing our UI scenes.
