I've found the hostile mobs in this version to be extremely passive. They only bother to attack if I get really close, and they barely even spawn. So I came across several mob spawners, underground. I even found two of them right next to each other, and they should be spawning the little venomous
I've been standing there and removed all light sources, moved around in various distances ... nothing. They don't spawn.
Also tried to build a grinder around a zombie spawner to no avail.
These mobs just won't spawn at all! I got 3 zombies out of the grinder in over 5 hours!
What's wrong with this version of Minecraft? This isn't normal.
Spawners don't ignore mob cap like they do on pc. To get spawner farms working you need to light caves.
They do spawn slower in console version vs java or bedrock. The way 4j implements new features has led to a less than optimized code that now spawns mobs slower than molasses, and they're ai is really slow to respond to players, or other mobs that they should be hostile twoards (slimes and iron golems, for example). They eventually respond, but it can take seconds.
The spawnable area is a 128 block sphere centered on the player. You don't normally have to light the whole area, after a couple hours of searching/placing torches I usually go check on rates. When I build a spawner farm I make it afk, so maximum rates aren't super important to me, just steady output. When I get enough stuff lit to keep a decent output even during nighttime hours then I call it.
Yeah mob spawning is pretty weak in this version of the game. I don't know if it's for performance reasons but I find night to not be very threatening. Definitely not as much of a worry as it is in Java edition. I also struggle to find food on the other hand. ESPECIALLY in multiplayer where the mob restrictions are applied to a wide area. I've been in the end with like only 3 enderman before because my friends were all elsewhere.
