I'm making a passive mob farm with a vindicator named "Johnny" A fence separates the area surrounding the 7x7 area of grass from the plentiful sand. The farm itself works great, but I knew that it could be improved. So after watching numerous episodes of Xisumavoid's Hermitcraft Season V, I decided to remove loads of grass nearby to limit passive mob spawning. After doing so, I noticed a dramatic increase in the numbers of the desert variant rabbits.
I want to get rid of the rabbits for a few other reasons. I have to resources to clear as much desert space as I need (plus, there isn't that much to clear), but I was wondering if the rabbits only spawn on a specific block(s)? I cannot find any relevant information on any wikis or forums.
For example, passive mobs such as cows, pigs, and sheep will spawn on grass blocks, but my question is: Do (desert) rabbits only spawn on blocks such as sand/sandstone?
But if rabbits don't contribute to the grouped passive mob cap, then this is pretty awkward.
Its pretty amazing how fast a small farm can be if you can block all spawns outside of it and kill the animals off quick. If you notice that your not getting a lot of chicken compared to the other drops then you might need to go underground and look for leftover chickens from jockeys that won't despawn. Chickens are on a different cap than other passive mobs so it won't effect the other types.
