So, in anticipation of the upcoming cross-platform update, and in a moment of nostalgia, I am going to recreate a thing I used to do on Xbox (360) on my Switch--A somewhat realistic twist on Survival, where we introduce currency and land development and "government," and I introduce friends to the world as citizens. It worked somewhat well back then, and I want to do it again.
The first order of business would be to get the rules up. I'm planning on using Google Docs. Yes, I'm aware I'm taking this a little too serious, lol. In that document, I want to have a picture of several of the in-game maps put together, with specific regions highlighted and named. I know there are multiplayer plugins that can do this (and output the map to a website that updates live), but that's only for PC and to do that I would need to get the map on PC. Herein lies the question: how would I do that?
I tried looking up the equivalent PC version, and then using the seed. I've used 1.12.2 and 1.12 (most recent + most recent pc update at the time of Switch's most recent update) to no avail. I can't find any equivalent version, even a rough equivalent version, anywhere online including the wiki, even though several users in one post on this site stated that information could be found on the wiki. Would there be alternative methods? Am I just doing something wrong?
I suppose I could take a picture with an external device, of several different maps, and then compile them in one picture using a photo editor (of which I'd be capable of doing); however, I'm really hoping this is unnecessary.
I've seen it stated in the past that the world generation looked like pc only scaled down some number of times (don't recall the exact number), but that doesn't seem to be the case at least nowadays. We can generate rough maps on chunkbase; http://chunkbase.com/apps/ but the reliability of the app varies, and I haven't used it in several months. At the time it could not reliably predict the location of structures, but the biomes were correct.
Thank you. This seems somewhat useful in certain circumstances, but I can't find a setting for the Switch. Still, I found out (again) that maps placed in item frames take up the entire block face, and are seamless. While I can't crossplay yet, I'll use the time to fill up the 3x3 map grid. Perhaps then I'll connect to the game on PC when the update comes, if I can, and then screenshot it, then import it to Photoshop.
In the chunkbase app you should select x-one tu31 and above to get the 'correct' generation algorithm.
If you have win10 edition you will be able to do exactly as you say in order to get the image you want, once the BT update drops for Switch.
The tools that many java server operators and map makers enjoy simply don't exist yet for the Bedrock version, but I'm sure as the popularity grows they will become available.
