I'm using MC 1.11.2 and I'm on a server. I have made an afk fishing farm but it's not afk though. I have to stand there and keep clicking to cast the line.
I dont know why they call it AFK when it's not. At least not on a server.
I know they're successful for some other people, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong. The farm is identical to the videos.
The farm in the spoiler was patched in 1.11 when a change was made that prevents iron trapdoors from being right-clicked. Instead, change the farm to this one.
It works in 1.11, and can't be patched without breaking trapdoors or redstone.

Watch out for the crabocalypse. Some say the day will never come. But it will.
Feel free to drop by for a chat whenever.
If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
Or make sure that the pause on loss of focus is off, hold the mouse button down while hitting F11(or the key assigned to full screen). If timed right, once you hit F11 and let go, the mouse button will still be registered as being held down, and you will continue to fish. To cancel it, go into chat or inventory.
Or right click again (to cancel)

Hey. This will probably annoy you if you are trying to scroll down the page.
Thanks to your advice, I finally managed to get it right. still having a problem to get it to work automatically using the F4 which is my key to full screen, plus the right mouse button.
I still don't see the point in this. I can fish faster manually in a body of water.
janskydunbird I wish I could do it like that, but I'd have to crawl under the desk and try to get to the mouse plugin from a small hole in the back of the desk l;ol

Hello.. I too.. take the low-tech route.. once I cast my rod.. i just tape down the mouse right click.. and let run overnight. I have the catches feed into a large chest then via hoppers ..into two MORE large chests. They are ALWAYS filled when i check in the morning. So much loot, that I had to create the extra storage chests you see in the back wall. Hope this helps

You know, it's really not that complicated. Just go into the Minecraft control settings and remap the mouse right-click to a key on your keyboard, then put some weight on it. My GF uses a small stack of coins taped together. I map it to a key near the edge of the keyboard and lean something on it (like my phone).
Fully automatic: These farms work on their own as long as players are nearby. This includes sugarcane farms, iron farms and mob grinders.
AFK: These require the player to do one simple action, such as hold down right click. Fish farms fall into this category. Placing a rock on your keyboard and going AFK is enough to keep these farms going.
Semi-AFK: These are like AFK farms, except the player also has to do the occasional complex action to keep it going, such as refilling bonemeal. These complex actions can't be easily automated with just a rock on your mouse.
AFK farms are called AFK farms because while they require player action, you can use tape on your mouse to hold down right click and it will work while you're AFK.

No that's not the one I made. I followed Nimstv video. No iron doors.
But since the bottom one is supposed to work, I'll try that one and see if I'm successful.
Thanks
Ah no I did not add the slab! Thank you so much. I appreciate you both for responding.
Forgot to ask...does it make that much difference if it's open to the sky? Because mine is inside a wall
Also, as long as it is raining you'll get better rates.

The idea is you weigh down right click on your mouse, then go AFK.
Not that it's fully automatic.
Or right click again (to cancel)
Or you can reassign right-click to a key, which is easier to hold down.

It turns out that I can't use this farm because the server doesn't allow it.
Farms generally fall into three categories:
Fully automatic: These farms work on their own as long as players are nearby. This includes sugarcane farms, iron farms and mob grinders.
AFK: These require the player to do one simple action, such as hold down right click. Fish farms fall into this category. Placing a rock on your keyboard and going AFK is enough to keep these farms going.
