One thing that's always bugged me is that even if you have bedrock on top of a chest to keep players from getting the items, they can still just break the chest and the items will fall out. It's the same with trapped chests: they can break the chest and not trigger the traps. Even shulker boxes are not safe; in fact, it's easier for players to take your shulker boxes back to their base in one piece, full of your items.
A suicide chest would look sort of like a chest, but the lock is gold, like on an ender chest. You can open and interact with it as usual, but if it is broken, no items will come out (except the item for the suicide chest itself.) There might also be a smoky particle effect to show "bwahaha, no one can have these items!" The suicide chest would mean if your base is raided, at least they can't keep your stuff.
As you'd expect, you can also craft Trapped Suicide Chests. You can also put a TNT block in the middle of the crafting recipe above to get a rigged suicide chest, which will explode when broken.
It's an interesting idea, but personally I'd rather keep my more valuable items in my Ender chest which when broken doesn't drop anything and I can keep the items. With enough shulker boxes and a silk touch pickaxe I typically have more than enough space for all my valuable items in a secure and conveniently mobile storage system. Other chests then become storage for items I either have in bulk or don't mind losing.
I find it unnecessary but I wouldn't mind it's inclusion in Minecraft.
Lukewarm Support.
Potential other names (though I don't particularly mind "Suicide Chest" others might):
I'm not entirely sure how this would help you in the case of raid servers. If a raider can't get the items, how can you? Do you expect the player to realize they're getting raided and put bedrock over the chest?
Goes along with the concept of having the last laugh. If you can't have it, no one can. I kind of really like that. I don't find it all that practical for every day single player so this is a heavily multi-player bias suggestion. The use in single player is next to none so in that regard, it is a pretty useless item. Another problem I see with this is in the cases when you don't actually want items to be destroyed. For instance, you could accidentally mine out the chest and woops, there goes everything, or if a creeper just so happens to find its way to the chest. Instead of dropping everything and being able to recover it all, you are kind of out of luck.
Although I think it is a cool idea and has a lot of potential, there are those flaws and the near uselessness it brings to single player.
I can only support it so much, but sadly it is not a full support.
*sees suicide chest*
*destroys chest so even the owner of it can't get the items*
That's a possibility right there. I still actually kind of support, as it does have the added factor of being something for map makers.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
Okay, lemme just point out that this has a total of zero uses in singleplayer mode, considering that there are no mobs that steal items from chests, nor will there ever be, considering that mob would be annoying and trollish.
I can't really see a use for this in multiplayer either, though.
If you decided to use this for the sake of keeping items safe from other players: You can't get bedrock in survival mode, and you can mine obsidian with a diamond pickaxe, so they would still be able to get at your stuff, provided you aren't using a block protection plugin. (Which removes the need for having any sort of Vanilla chest protection, anyway.)
Also, I'd think I'd rather just let the greifer get my stuff. He probably deserves his reward, and I may or may not be able to steal it back at some point.
My avatar is a texture from a small block game I made in Python. It's not very good and it probably won't work if you install it.
I'm very alone in my Minecraft worlds as I don't have a very good internet connection to run a server. If you're like me, you might be interested in my Posse mod suggestion.
I would say this would be better as some kind of Cursed Chest that damages players besides the owner who tries to break it or use it. Then when it breaks it imparts negative status effects or something like that. Still not a huge fan since it is multiplayer only but it isn't awful.

Considering this already gives the chest the ability to detect players, wouldn't it just be better to go the Minetest route and have a locked chest that only opens for the player that placed the chest in the first place?
I would implement this by having a "lock" item that is only craftable when the game is a multiplayer server (using the same boolean that says whether or not you can use the /ban and /kick commands, which you cannot use on a LAN server for some reason...) which, when right-clicked on a chest, will change it's texture and model slightly and show a name tag of the player owning the chest when you hover your cursor over the chest.

GETTING THE LAST LAUGH FOR THE WIN!
I'm a Whovian squid who likes drawing.
I'm also quite nerdy with an interest in game developing and the concept of a fourth spatial dimension.
All hail chickens.
I'm pretty sure it's only going to benefit multiplayer PvP type servers, so... meh.

there will not be a name like this added to the game. that word is not a good influence for the young. why not just name it soul chest.
