greetings! ladies, and gentlemen, it is i! the one and only... Decay: The Witherer! behold my magnificence, and despair.. today, i wish to present to you a very intriguing suggestion for those boring, desolate islands that surround the ender dragon boss arena. i would like to suggest a new dunegon, and mob... so lets get right into this, shall we?
Burrows
burrows spawn at the surface of those islands of barren end stone, appear as 3 by 4 slightly elevated holes in the end ground. and can be found at around the same rate end cities are. within, one can find themselves in a vast maze of underground tunnels, littered with Scarabs (see scarabs below) and endermites. and if you are lucky, you may find chests with random loot that is about the same as those in the Nether Fortresses
Burrow Entrance
Burrow Tunnels
Scarabs
Scarabs are large, Asian rhinoceros beetle-like creatures that are about the size of a cave spider, they have a dark, black abdomen and thorax and a more Shulker colored head. they spawn in burrows within packs of 2 to 3. Scarabs have 2 main attacks, 1.) gouge, which is when it rams you with the massive horn-like structure above it mandibles, and 2.) strike, which is when it opens its Elytron, revealing the wings underneath and flies towards you, finally striking you with its 2 forward facing legs, the Scarab has around 10 health, but it has a natural armor value the likeness of which mirrors iron. upon death, there is a 1-10 chance that a scarab will drop one "Elytron" which is an item that can be used to repair an elytra to full health, no matter how damaged it is, so its worth going out and actively exploring these burrows and hunting scarabs.

inspiration
my inspiration for this suggestion comes from the fact an elytra in real life, is usually describing the wing casings that are found on beetles and other such creepy-crawlies. i thought it would be cool if you could find giant beetles in the end that dropped elytra's, or an item that could be used to craft them, which is how i came up with this suggestion.
also, it would be IMMENSELY appreciated if you would support this suggestion, all you have to do is copy-paste this banner to your forum signature, as well as a link to this forum thread
anyways, fine folks... this is it for now, tell me what you think and/or how i may be able to improve this suggestion.

A new bug that drops elytra seems crazy unbalanced. I think that elytra should be exclusive to end dungeon ships.
that makes some sense, however... you have to kill 2 scarabs in order to get one elytra, which is difficult in itself, plus you have to find the burrows and all they are, are just holes in the ground barely noticeable, and they are surprisingly rare, being as rare as an end city. you must also take into account that you have probably killed the ender dragon if you are in the end islands, plus, i've seen folks get 10 elytras using only the end city dungeons within an hour, so it isn't that overpowered when you consider all of the variables.

Hmm... I have to say, I don't like the fact that you could craft a elytra with this mobs drop. I think it should only drop an item that repairs the elytra, not repairs and crafts an elytra. Maybe, the scarab can have a chance (15% chance?) of dropping a broken/ripped elytra (I dont know if this item wa removed, but it was definitely in game). This elytra has 0 derability and can't be used until repaired. Once repaired, the elytra reverts back to its normal texture (I will show you the ripped texture below). I know. That was an item.
Also, There should be endermite and scarab in the burrows, as it makes more sense if you think about it.
That's about it. you can also use that beetle/scarab picture below for your mob.
perhaps it could drop the same item that i talked about but just have it only able to repair an elytra? (since when an elytra breaks it turns into a broken elytra which uses that texture)
and yes, i'll update the op so that endermites spawn in there as well.

I guess that makes it even harder to get an elytra from a burrow than an end dungeon.
I have a suggestion for an idea though
Elytrons be able to repair elytra 216 durability but not be able to craft elytra
You shouldn't be able to craft elytra since if that was possible it would make exploring end cities totally useless. However, they should only be used to repair them.

as a response to both of you, the op has been updated to say that, that is basically what WDSMinecraft had suggested (or at least compelled me to to change it)

Don't make too much of a show. Also, they're not that barren... think chorus plants. Alright, I can deal with that. Make the loot either nether fortress level loot or dungeon level loot, since End Cities should be the main focus here. Scarabs Scarabs are large, Asian rhinoceros beetle-like creatures that are about the size of a cave spider, they have a dark, black abdomen and thorax and a more Shulker colored head. they spawn in burrows within packs of 2 to 3. Leather can already repair Elytra, so this makes elytrons totally useless. Plus, wouldn't it have too many attacks for a maze (probably a 1x2 block area)? It's attacks are more for wide-open spaces than corridors.

It only has one like. I would suggest adding a banner/other stuff at ~35 likes. Also, it's hard to take this suggestion seriously if you use *shudders* Comic Sans.

despite my disagreements with your criticism i was a bit vague in my explanations, so i build a burrow to use as concept art and took some of your advice to heart, your welcome.
not a bad idea however it seems a little out there for some reason, maybe its because its a new bug? I do like the maze idea though as it would add what in my opinion is a much needed exploration feature to the end. I could see someone taking your idea and making it a mod but not entirely sure it would fit in vanilla so partial

Maybe make the drop 1/5-10 to make it rarer, giving a use for end-city hunting. I Really like the idea and maybe their could even be a 1/10 chance a boss room will spawn with a giant Crarab, dropping a rare item or something. Support!
Yeah, slightly rarer elytron drops, like maybe 50% chance to drop one, and maybe 25% chance to drop 2? Though unlike MrShneeb, no boss. We already have three bosses: Wither, Ender Dragon, and Elder Guardian. The only way another boss would work is if it is a miniboss, no boss bar.

If scarabs were rare, than hell yeah! I love this idea!

People are allowed to voice their opinions of your suggestion, and you aren't allowed to accuse them of being a troll just for criticizing your idea.
