Having an insulated redstone wire would sure be helpful!
I have need for 4 and 5 input AND/NAND gates in a design I'm doing. One of the most straightforward and compact of these is that shown by Magix in his excellent list as AND #5.
This works super if all the inputs are by switches on the blocks themselves, but if remote activation is required, the adjacent redstone wires join together and inputs can not be separated. One solution is to put spacer blocks between each torch, but it just almost doubles the width. Another is to attach the inputs through strings of repeaters, but that gives delay. I haven't investigated vertical separation or use of diodes but that will certainly get complicated.
The ability to run redstone wires parallel without them combining (insulation) could help make a lot of redstone wiring more easily simplified. Perhaps just by putting them on a different kind of block? I'm really indifferent to implementation mechanism.
Added:
General consensus is that wool , which can be dyed many colors should be material for insulation.
Wool is available commonly both from sheep and from spider silk, so ready at hand to anyone.
You have a good concept, but the suggestion itself need more detail. How exactly is redstone going to be insulated? If it's a new type of block, how do we craft it? If it's not a new block but a new mechanic, how would this mechanic be implemented?
One thing I was thinking was creating an insulated version of redstone which might be made by something like:
Nether_Quartz + Redstone = Insulated_Redstone
Main property would be it lays down as a line only and could only connect at the ends. This would allow connects as desired by interspersing regular Redstone nodes sorta like:
– – – * – – –
– – – * – – –
– – – – – – –
– = insulated
* = Normal
Top wires would connect bottom 2 would not.
Hope this shows right as it might look odd if font is different.
Other options could be either spider silk , glass, or wool to insulate. instead of quartz. Those would make it easier to obtain.
I thought this idea was gonna be "hey yo yo YO! let's put insulation in our houses to keep the cold and heat out or something! reeeeeaaallismmm!!"
Yeah, I support the idea, more or less.

Yes, that's a good idea. Use wool, so that different colors are used. A color could connect only with the same color, so it would be easy to use, rather than figuring out some complex thing and having connections complicated to figure out.
The wool is a good idea I guess. It would definitely make complex redstone creations easier to follow and understand. Oh, I almost forgot, full support.

Not fond of this really for looks: Was a fast first effort.
Great job! The crafting recipe is not bad, but I was expecting the actual placed block to look a bit more "smooth" on the edges, but that's your decision, since you are the OP. It would also be difficult to make the redstone look insulated without making the block model 3D, which just complicates things.

Yes, this is something I'd like, with the suggestions provided here to accompany it, like the wool being used to insulate. The only problem I have with the recipe is that they might be a big costly to make for those without a very large sheep farm. The only thing I can think of to solve that is to make the recipe the wool block surrounded by redstone to yield 8 insulated redstone, but the shape doesn't make much sense.

Yes, I'm sure the cost of it will cause players to use it only where needed, until they can make a sheep farm. But sheep farms are quite easy to make.

I can also start on a banner if you are happy with the look of the crafted insulated redstone item. I was thinking of making a gif of each color of wool on the redstone and a simple background, maybe of a simple redstone mechanism, and some text.

Not sure what I think of it. Maybe the texture/model should be a 3D cable, or maybe it should just be dyed redstone which doesn't connect to other colours? (dust with a different colour, with red being the normal one. Would of course require a topic name change)

As I've said many times, Wool can be made from spider silk as well as shearing sheep. I have a large sheep farm with all possible colors of sheep, but I still have more wool that I've made from spider silk than I have from shearing sheep. This makes only white wool, but it can be dyed all colors as desired.

Yes, this would be very useful for complex redstone mechanisms. It would also make some redstone mechanisms MUCH smaller and more practical.

LOL !!
Yep! That's why it was tagged for Redstone.

I support this as well. Sounds like it'd be very useful for creating different sorts of mechanisms.
Maybe Insulated Wire is made with wool instead? That way you can get different colors in there, and determine what goes where.
I like the idea. Support.

It would help if someone could make an illustration of what the "insulated redstone" would look like, and how it's crafted.
Maybe this for crafting:

Makes sense, I suppose it won't be widely used in survival anyway. Come to think of it, yes, I'm all for that recipe, I guess.
