Umm. It already is an option and it's called Hardcore Mode.
The OP is suggesting that your world doesn't actually get deleted when you enable hardcore mode, you just can't interact with it anymore.
No, what I'm saying is one setting would do this, and the other would do as it is doing now.

I like Video games, such as Pokemon and animal crossing. My avatar is Villager, possible reference to the Akia Village?
Stuff I support:
Then whats the point if you can't pick anything up?
Seems like the only point of this suggestion would be so that you can look at everything you've built even if you die. If you plan on building impressive structures you just shouldn't enable hardcore mode though.

You might want to rephrase your post then because all it says is how bad having your world deleted would be. That's what hardcore mode does already.
Um, if the world wasn't deleted then couldn't you go into the file and delete your data so you can start over in the same world? It kinda ruins the purpose...
No Support.

There was a thread like this a while back. I explained there that it's even worse than just deleting your world. You allow people to see what might have been, and it makes them sad.
There's two benefits, as well.
1. Being able to take screenshots if you didn't do so.

Or you could just use the "open to lan to enable cheats in hardcore" glitch (that got locked in the bugtracker for being a suggestion) and use commands to change your gamemode back.
No support, but only because this would make it possible to return the world into playable state.
If they somehow could make it so that you couldn't edit the file to continue playing map again I would support, but that probably is impossible.
And then I'm the one here who supports this. I like it because it would make things a bit more realistic, for example if I want to have fun and be a ghost, I could make a Hardcore world, die, and have fun being a ghost! Fun fun fun

Its a simple as going into any world you have, and using this command:
/gamemode sp
Vwa-la, ur a ghost!

But seriously, this isn't a good idea, the point of hardcore mode is that you lose the world when you die, its the point!
And plus, just makes daily backups and you won't have a problem...
I agree with MC_Kiwi_Survivor.Hardcore won't be interesting if the world won't be deleted.Boooo.I'm a ghost!

Mojang intended to make a game mode where if you die, you will loose the world. They even joked about a super hardcore mode where the player looses its account. Basically hardcore for me is to defeat the ender dragon before I die. For some, it might be to see how many days the player survived. Others might have a different play style, like adding challenges etc.
And the whole point of hardcore is to protect your world rather than build stuff, because there is no point being a ghost with nothing to see what you have built. That's why there is survival, if you die you respawn and keep building or do whatever you want.
The point of a hardcore mode is that it is like a challenge, making it harder than survival.
If you do want to build something nice, why build it in hardcore? Why not creative, or survival??
Plus, it makes sense that you get to delete the world or get banned from the server. Or else, someone might explore the place to find the location of ores or dungeons and stuff, or even find other player's bases in the server and attack or grief them.
Flying around as a ghost is fun, but we have /gamemode 3 for that

...
How do you grief them when you are a ghost that can't interact with the world?
How does it matter that you know where the ores are when you can't do anything to them?

Alt accounts. People have them, you know.
Well if you're on the server you can tell the other people.... If singleplayer, I mean... it's cheating right? Cheating makes the game not fun

cheating...
You know where the ores are but can't do anything to them, ever...
How is that even cheating?
Good point about alts, and I agree that cheating makes the game not fun.
I did this once with command blocks, just use the following steps:
1. Create a normal survival world.
2. Lock the difficulty to "Hard".
3. Open to LAN with cheats enabled.
4. Run this command: /gamemode 1
5. Run this command: /give @p command_block
6. Run this command: /scoreboard objectives add deaths deathCount
7. Place the command block and attach it to a redstone clock.
8. Write this in the command block: /gamemode 3 @a[score_deaths_min=1]
9. Run this command: /gamemode 0
Your semi-hardcore world is ready!
