In such vast worlds, have you ever found yourself a little... disoriented?
Or have you ever created a map wanting people simply to know where they are?
The Region Marker
Whatever the goal is, let's give a name to areas with a block using what is existent in the /title command.
Simply crafted from a sign and 1 to 8 emeralds [as if land "paid"] defining the cubic radius of effect,
It will show upon placement a two-lined GUI (title and subtitle).
Using the same texture as the Sign it's made from (but paler?),
It would be placated onto blocks and never on a stick (Block side or block top).
Simple, powerful and, most importantly, immersive - at least that's my opinion.
To avoid abuse, the program would break the sign on the spot if there is more than 2 overlapping region markers (if this is possible).
Why 2? Because certain places are embedded in other places.
Or could be uncraftable in survival.
The biggest radius cannot be too big, but multiple Region Markers with same name won't show multiple times.
Let's say 1 cubic chunks for smallest, 3³ for second, 5³ for third, all the way to 15³.
That is to say, where ever the person placed the marker, it's the chunk in which it has been placed that is affected for performance reason. Spherical radius may hinder performance.
(For comparison, a smallest map contains 82 chunks and the second, 162 so it gives a quite big range of effect)
Here as an example of the four first level of effects with a smallest map.
Why not in commands instead of a new block?
More than one seemed to wonder why not do it with commands. Well, I tried, and here is how I could do it:
1. A loop checking if a player is close enough - if so start 2
2. Call subtitle and title, then start 3 and cancel 1.
3. A loop checking if a player is no more close enough - if so start 1. But. It will not work for multiplayer.
Hence the need for this simplified block that would be gracefully placed by command-experts and command-dummies alike.
Textured /title
A side but still important aspect of this would be to allow the /title command looks to be customized through ressource packs.
You like a different font? On the top left instead of the middle? Ressource packs should be allowed to grant users a different style than the squarish white ascii like characters by which we are greeted with the normal font. Let's end this monopoly!
Named Beacon
(Idea from Farm Collector.)
If you're not for a new block and would find the signs being overused, let's have this instead!
Point your cursor to its beam and its name will be displayed. Great for far recognition when multiple beacons are used.
Show your support!

I agree beacons serve as, well, beacons, like a lighthouse to guide.
But I'm thinking about something more immersive, more personal, like when you enter in a dungeon and it writes "Jabu-Jabu's Belly", or arrive at the NPC village you decided to call "Harhville", or go deep below finding "Alibaba's Cavern Basement 3".

Which is why I'm thinking of a circular radius instead of cubic radius, leaving more room for smooth entering/exiting area.
As for elongated areas, well, I believe people will decide if they want two or more markers having less impact each, or one that encompasses more area than it should. As for visibility, it is in the hand of the player to hide or not at leisure.
By the way, thank you for your interest!

I did not know of /title and I am pretty excited! Its mere existence makes it easier, because it would be called upon being inside the 3D radius of the Region Marker or however else it could be named.
And I agree that customizable style in ressource pack is awesome although it looks pretty neat as is.
I have to admit, written commands and command blocks are powerful, but I find that making them as a gamer is like reminding me that I am in a computer program more than a game.
Sincerely I like the principle of /title but I'd like even better if it could be called when inside the spherical radius of effect of the Region Marker.
Definetely a good idea. i love the idea of being able to create markers, both for survival and map making purposes.
Although the crafting recipe seems a little random to me. Why exactly emeralds? Support overall.
The idea behind the use of emeralds is that they would act as a "payment" for land "property". The bigger the radius, the higher the price.
Which may or may not be used to decide who could modify things in the "paid" sphere. I believe it should not, but time can decide of it.
Thank you all for your answers! In the near future (like in a month I hope) I would like to present the idea to developers when it reaches ideal perfection and hopefully much more support from the community.

Yes please! I've been looking this for all life! This would rock on an RPG, or even a map your trying to make! O,: This would be such great! Mojang needs this man, those signs do not help that much ): I agree, 10/10!
The idea seems interesting at first glance, but the execution seems wonky when it comes to intersecting, Y cords, its creation, and a few other things.
Might be cool as a creative tool for adventure maps or something, but not survival. Stick to making roads, signs, and walls.

Thank you for your answer! How do you see it being wonky? Intersection will give way to the closest sign in a taxi geometry; Y cords is to allow areas high and low; and its creation could be modified to suit better.
I agree it could be overused in survival and therefore if need be, it could simply be not accessible in survival.

If I saw it properly tested, I'd be in full support of it being a command block option.
Actually, I'm able to do a if '/testfor @p[r=16]' then '/title @p title "Home"' loop - only problem being I'm constantly reminded I'm home. Besides, it's really not elegant.
Why have multiple command blocks and redstone repeaters when one sign block would suit something that would be loved and used?

Apparently there can only be two lines of text on the Region marker - one for the title and the second for the subtitle.
Which makes sense: not many places in the world would or even should be named "Red mushroom peaceful kingdom of popular democracy in District twelve".
