So, I've been playing Minecraft for many years now, and I've seen this getting on a lot of people's nerves as well as my own.
Say you set up a furnace array, and start smelting items while you do something else while it finishes. You come back maybe two hours later after building something,
and either
A: Completely forget you were smelting items
or B: You don't remember which furnace you used, and have to click through each one to find which one holds your smelted items.
This is only a minor frustration, but this is something so simple it could be something easily fixed.
I purpose a different texture be displayed (While the furnace is active or de-active) when there is items in it, as apposed to when it is empty.
Simple and easy, but saves quite a bit of frustration in the end.
I have this problem too and your suggestion is a neat idea! As well as solving the problem, it makes the furnace look nicer. The texture should change depending on the item in it (much like an item frame). Eg if you leave your house smelting gold ore, you can come back and the furnace has a gold ingot on it.
So overall, this is a good idea. SUPPORT!!!
Thank you! Being Minecraft textures are only 16x16 it would be difficult to illustrate all the different items in it, but you could at least show variation in a few.
This is a good idea. Just some way to see a furnace has a item in it already after smelting / cooking is complete.
Yeah, it's such a simple idea that I'm surprised Mojang hasn't thought to implement this themselves yet.
It doesn't do a whole lot, but that small little change would make the world of a difference.

I wonder if we can work it like grass, the top of the furnace is whitened out, and depending what item you put in it (after it cooks) it would change the hue to a color close to the item color. So.. For example, if I cook clay, when it's done cooking, it will show the top part red, or if cooking potatoes... It would be the... uhh... potato color...? And we can treat the furnace sorta like the grass's top texture.
There really isn't a reason not to add this, it will be cool if the item you were smelting had the texture unlike just the bread. This will be one of those small things in Minecraft that you "That's so cool!"

That would certainty be interesting. I'm not very knowledgeable about how Minecraft's coding works, but that sounds like the most ideal way.

Yeah, for sure. The bread was just an example, ideally it would display a color or texture based on what is in the furnace.
Minecraft is not medieval-themed!!! As a matter of fact, it doesn't have a set time. And when and WHY did putting reponses in the quote, especially long ones, become a trend in the Suggestions? It's rather inconvenient, mainly since the OP has to gather your quote up manually. Avatar made by Endergirl!

Minecraft isn't a 16x16 game, it is an extremely HD game, the textures are 16x16, Minecraft can handle it.
Yes, i'm referring to the texture. To add items in the furnace, you would have to display an entity, or make the furnace's texture bigger than 16x16. Hence why I suggested a new idea on how to render it. I understand Minecraft can render HD graphics, but I would like an addition that kept the default texture's resolution the same.
Support, this would be cool, you could have it show modded items as well if you just show the item at the top of the furnace.

Here is an example
Furnace Empty
Furnace Filled
The Texture here was just an example I threw together.
In reality, even a simple color change to the top part of the furnace would work with this idea for 16x16

16 x 16 is fine. Anything larger can be fixed in your resource pack.

No, EnderCreeper supports quite a few things, it's just hard to get it sometimes.
Yes. He only supports a few things. As for the OP, I support this idea fully.
