Prismarine is an awesome new block added into 1.8, but can only be used for decoration (Although it looks awesome) I propose a new weapon using the prismarine shards: The Prismarine Trident!
Crafting
The Diamonds represent Prismarine Crystals and the blue dye represents Prismarine Shards.
Usage:
This will be a ranged weapon underwater. When you right click and hold on the trident, a beam similar to the Guardian's will emit and the longer you hold right click, the more damage the beam will do. (It won't go for infinity, though. It reaches its max at the same time speed a Guardian would. Above water, the trident will be good for melee damage , and has the same amount of damage as an enchanted diamond sword with Sharpness II, and it has fire aspect (The Nether Star must be hot). It can be used as a melee weapon underneath water as well.
This lasts a quarter longer than a Diamond Sword, and does the same amount of damage (when fully charged) as a Guardian Beam does.
This can be enchanted with Power, Sharpness, and Unbreaking.
If you like this suggestion then support it and leave me your thoughts!
Hmm.. I do like the idea but theres something missing.. The Trident was originally used for spear fishing So i did like the beam idea. However. If It was something you would right click to throw and it would come back either with a fish or just empty it might be ok. Something like the fishing pole bobber and string but without the waiting for a nibble. This would actually lead me to a new idea that would go along with this: Standing on boats. Yes, it may sound stupid but if you could be able to stand on your boat in the middle of the ocean and start killing fish with this it would be really cool. Or even if you just fish while standing up. The only thing it would do is allow you to see better into water from above instead of being almost level with the water.

This is a pretty decent idea. However, you might want to make your own suggestion thread for that. Anyway, this is more of a weapon than anything (and could be used as a bow alternative underwater considering bows go nerfed) Not exactly meant for fishing peacefully.

Maybe instead of a nether star it uses either a diamond, emerald, or another crystal. Support
I feel like Nether Stars are a bit ignored even though they have a ton of potential. If you don't want a beacon, then use the star on a weapon instead.

Eh. It doesn't fit if its just out there on its own thread so I just gave you the idea if you want to play around with it. But it was just an idea.. ok. Is it going to be used on all mobs or can it just be used on Guardian's? I think it might be neat if it was just limited to like underwater or something.. It seems like that might fit. But I do Support.

I agree 100% with you on this one. Neather stars our way under used in the game. And this is a more advanced into-game weapon. It fits.

I'm going to disagree with this one. We don't need weapons as we have good enough weapons already, and minecraft isn't a game to be overkill with those types of things. I do think using it to fish would be good if it used only prismarine (Shards for the handle, crystals for the points in the shape of a pickaxe) and caught more fish than a rod but without treasure.
At this suggestions current state it doesn't really fit in that well for vanilla, but seems more suited to be some sort of modded weapon.

I like it, but it doesn't seem right to have it's durability the same as diamond. Maybe a bit more? After all, Withers can be hard (to spawn, and (possibly) to kill.) SUPPORT

So what, you just point the beam and it lays waste to everything so long as you hold down the mouse button? Or do you hold to charge and release to shoot?
It's a good idea, but I agree, it shouldn't have a durability that lasts just as long as diamond, maybe it could last longer than iron but not as much as diamond. But I also see how well this is balanced in the game.

You release to shoot, and it only damages mobs.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I think that this would be in a mod. Mojang wouldn't add a... diamond boat and not make more boats such as Iron, Gold, etc, if this is going to happen, they'd probably make tools out of prismarine (which is already unlikely) and then make the trident. No Support

This is pretty useless. It's worse than an enchanted diamond sword on land, and its ranged attack is only usable underwater where the vast majority of fights won't end up taking place. Even if the beam were usable on land, it wouldn't compare to an equivalently-enchanted bow (as a bow only does slightly less damage but charges up much faster).
Being the only ranged weapon that isn't absolutely terrible underwater is too much of a niche, and by the time you get this nothing in the game will be a challenge anyway. No support.

It was originally a ranged weapon on land, but I decided for it to be useful ranged underwater only, considering bows are typically used on land but they are nerfed underwater. I made them deal as much damage as a diamond sword with sharpness II, with the sharpness enchant added as a possible enchant. And considering that things could get tougher in the future, this might prove useful (even more so if they add fish as a mob).
