There are many possibilities. The variation range of the layer could be another option. Sometimes the layer bellow could be curved so the layer would be totally missing at a place.
Void layers aren't my favourite. I think, the far void layer shouldn't damage the player. And there should be more ways to enter the forgotten layer, not only the X0 Z0. The void layers could be curved too.
When the layers would be generated randomly, one layer could appear more times than once at a place. Some layers could be totally missing at a place. There are many options.
so curved layers can be another option, ok, so the far void layer will be changed to the player have to enter anywhere AS LONG AS the player stay in the shaft of light, so the player would take 1 heart damage every 8 seconds but if the player is at X0 Z0 no void damage is done at none of the voids
and the ancient phrase now is "light shines through deep depths darkness"
Maybe there should be more light shafts, because everyone would want to have house at X0 Z0. I think, the void damage is not neccesary, I would let the players fall to the forgotten layer and die here. Nothing can survive this fall.
Yes, we forgot the ender pearls. When the ender pearl would be thrown from the top of void layer, the pearl would go to an unloaded chunk and stuck there. However, players can throw an ender pearl near hitting the forgotten layer. It could be also provided by a waterfall. There could be something that kills the player, but not the void itself. Maybe floating iron spikes or something like this.
Yes, but i want something like a challenge to let's do this: the shaft can be at coordinates like X{-200;-100;0;100;200...} Z{-200;-100;0;100;200...} any block that both X and Z coordinates are divisable by 100, there players take NO damage if there's the shaft of light (but the shaft can't pass blocks like water, lava, only normal glass (not stained glass) and while the player is in the far void layer and in the shaft of light both simultaneously, the player won't take fall damage, then, they will fall in a flat layer of dark stone (with no holes) if the player get out of the shaft before making a hole in the dark stone, players will take void damage as they would still be in the void layer, let's say the first layer of the forgotten layer dark stone is at Y -1600 for example, Y -1599 players take damage if their head is there, if the player head is at Y -1600, they take NO damage as they are totally in the forgotten layer this way there would be no fights for the X0 Z0 position
and the new phrase that describes how to pass is still "light shines through deep depths darkness"
Wh-oa! What?! Describing Terraria? This suggestion is nothing like Terraria! Adding new gems doesn't make it Terraria! If it does... We'd better get rid of iron, gold, emeralds and diamonds, because those are ores in Terraria! Keep in mind that the names of the ores in Terraria are real ores (For the most part), so it can't be describing Terraria if the ore's originality wasn't even from the game! Lastly, the new gems aren't even used for the same reason they're used in Terraria, they are used for completely different things! I honestly don't see how this is describing Terraria in any way! Terraria has a HUGE mass of content, and if something very teeny tiny was added that the game has, we're copying the whole game?! That's just insane!
Also, I have scarsely heard of Terraria but have never played it before!
Here's how it would look like when the player encounter a shadow:

Here's how it look like the hole for the shaft of light to pass the far void:
These look great! Do you think that these are polished enough to be put on the front post? I can make a pictures gallery for whoever makes pictures for this!

I'm not going to do the completely black picture, because that doesn't really show much.
So, almost done with the layers, well some of them, it's actually the only layers i'm doing. (I'll explain why below)

Next up is the Compressed layer, sadly no ores yet, but this ravine is on top of the bedrock plains level.
Darkness layer...

Looks quite different from your suggestion, but I feel that it should be more maze-e like. Actually, it's mostly that making realistic caves is very annoying and difficult.
I still got a bit of work to do, mostly just textures, and re-doing a few things, this is just showing you my progress so that you know i'm still working on it Next time i'll post the final pictures. I also skipped quite a bit of layers, and i'll explain below...
Anyways, I seen this suggestion before it became a bajillion different things, and I thought it was really cool. I still support this, but honestly feel some things aren't right after the additions...
First off, the layers. So right now we have estimated 250 blocks in height in current vanilla Minecraft. With these new layers, it brings us to a total of 250+200+200+150+100+100+100+50+100+75+300+100+100+(Void level unspecified, assuming 100)+(Far Void level unspecified assuming 100)+230(Estimating to 225)+70(Estimating to 75)+(Final Labyrinth level unspecified, assuming 100)= 2,500 Estimated Whoppin' blocks in height!!! Geez! That's way too much, especially considering most of these layers aren't even needed!
Some layers can be mashed together, because do we really need a near Nether level? Honestly feel we shouldn't be near this much blocks in height! 1,000 should be the maximum, no higher, it'l be too much to handle! Even then, we shouldn't even go NEAR that much if we are extending the height of the world! Some layers that could should be put together are "Maze and Crystal layers", "Compressed and bedrock plaines layers", and "Void level and Deep world level" most other layers aren't needed as they are very slightly different from another layer, and doesn't add anything useful, or even have a purpose... List of layers that don't need to be here and why:
Near Nether Layer: It doesn't even make sense. Finding Nether ore in the over world isn't worth having a layer for. The fact that you go near the Nether only to to hear the Ender Dragon deeper in doesn't make sense at all.
Near void layer: There is nothing great about this, the lava layer is warning enough that we are near the void. We can keep the weak void effect, but an entire layer just to experience that, and just that is not really needed...
Mutated Layer: The void effect and mob swarms are bad enough, we don't need to die the second we get down here, as mining is about... Well mining, not fighting for your life in a never-ending swarm of mobs that you can barely see.
Forgotten layer: It's essentially the darkness layer, but with an added effect, we don't need another layer with just one addition.
Evil layer: I don't need to be left at 1/2 a heart just because I mined a single block. I don't see any use for fragmented stone, either, and if it's really useful, then it could easily be added to other layers.
Phew, that was a mouth full. So now we are at.... about 1,825 blocks, thank goodness.
Next up is the fact that the layer heights are way too high! We don't need any layers taller than the default cave system's height which is around 45-50 blocks tall. Most layers need to just be cut in half, and if we do that, we're at... around 915 blocks. Much more reasonable. We could go much lower, and still have a great experience, but we'll just leave it at that.
Next is the liquids. I kinda skimmed through these, so not much, but I rather have just lava rather then many liquids with the same, but stronger effect. We don't need 1 hit KO blocks, not only because it's 1 hit KO, and all your stuff is gone, but because it can be abuse, via multi-player and with mob farms.
Silver dust: Seems pretty good, but due to blockstates, it's not possible, atleast easily. Redstone gets a power of 15, because that's the maximum block state. (I might be wrong on this one, though.)
Lastly is the full void effect. With an enchanted golden apple, you'll only last around 15 seconds. Wearing armor is pointless as it doesn't protect against it. I understand you want this to be a speed-run thing, but that's just crazy! The fact that you get hit so rapidly also makes it almost impossible to jump up a single block. I suggest just going with the weak void effect.
Other then that, I also have one suggestion.
So, the way it's rendered now, is cubic chunk format, but instead of that, I was wondering if one layer could render at a time? Instead of traveling down direct holes, once every 10 chunks (That isn't a slime chunk to slightly increase rarity) there will be a 3 by 3 platform. You must ignite the center area with flint and steel, and it will create an opening to the next layer down. When going through, it will act as a portal, and bring you down a layer. These portals can't be un-activated, and are undestructable, generating always at the 4th lowest block in each layer.
The sure look good so far! Would it be possible to pixilate with more of glaring eye slits? I don't know if this would work, but it would be cool. : )

So... let's just merge the forgotten and the darkness layer, nerf the soul obsidian from poison I for 20 seconds to... nausea?, make the near void layer smaller, and decrease a little the other layers size, ok?

Yes, they should probably be rendered by level! I have a pictures gallery now, do you want me to put your pictures in there, or wait for a finished product? I'll also consider changing some things as you said.

so, for example, if I enter the evil layer, the forgotten layer will stop being rendered/loaded instantly?
that's very awesome!
so, the forgotten layer would be the most "lagged" of all as it have 228 blocks?
A guy by the name of ben_g0 thought it might be cooler to have different "biomes" on each level instead of each level expanding infinitely. I'm not sure this is exactly what he meant, but I do know that it would be cool for each level to have its own biomes. For example, cave villages might pop up every so often on the abandoned level, but wouldn't span the whole thing. Any ideas?

I think it would still be fine, normal mincraft has 256 blocks right now! : )
This would work perfectly until you would be between two layers. Then it would lag, because two layers would be loaded at once. When only one layer would be loaded, it would look ugly. And there can be also a situation when you would be able to see trough one layer, so three layers would have to be loaded at once.
well, i think it would be acceptable, let's say someone is in the forgotten layer and look through the evil layer, if you're not in both layers at once, only the forgotten layer should be rendered

And there can be also a situation when you would be able to see trough one layer, so three layers would have to be loaded at once.
That's why there would also be cubic chunks. Loading one layer at a time helps further prevent lag.
Another thing: let's say we let all the layers as they are right now, let's put we need a world from 4096 blocks to hold everything, we should keep the 0-256 normal MC layers and add other 3840 layers BELOW the Y0, because then, let's say this become a mod, if someone create a world without this mod, and then, later put this mod, the 0-256 layers would still be unchanged, if we changed it to layers 0-4096 for example, the world would consider the house of that player is in let's say layer 90, layer 90 is still final labyrinth level...
so what to you think, Y should go from -3840 to 256, right?
wait, as the game would only keep 1 layer loaded at a time, why not we keep all the layers there are instead of merging 2 layers into a single one?

That's the whole point of the portals thing as part of my suggestion. Igniting the portal will allow access to the next layer, which will be the travel method between layers. Think of it as the dimensional doors mod, if you ever used it.
Yes, they should probably be rendered by level! I have a pictures gallery now, do you want me to put your pictures in there, or wait for a finished product? I'll also consider changing some things as you said.
I think you should wait, it'll be about one more day, but you can add them if you want. Just expect to change them very soon.
You mean like having different sizes?
if yes, there could have an option for making them normal/randomly curved (maybe except the Near/Far voids)
so curved layers can be another option, ok, so the far void layer will be changed to the player have to enter anywhere AS LONG AS the player stay in the shaft of light, so the player would take 1 heart damage every 8 seconds but if the player is at X0 Z0 no void damage is done at none of the voids

These portals can't be un-activated, and are undestructable, generating always at the 4th lowest block in each layer.
they are not completely black, they have some dark grey lines (besides their eyes)
So... let's just merge the forgotten and the darkness layer, nerf the soul obsidian from poison I for 20 seconds to... nausea?, make the near void layer smaller, and decrease a little the other layers size, ok?
Yes, they should probably be rendered by level! I have a pictures gallery now, do you want me to put your pictures in there, or wait for a finished product? I'll also consider changing some things as you said.
so, for example, if I enter the evil layer, the forgotten layer will stop being rendered/loaded instantly?
that's very awesome!
so, the forgotten layer would be the most "lagged" of all as it have 228 blocks?
I think it would still be fine, normal mincraft has 256 blocks right now! : )
well, i think it would be acceptable, let's say someone is in the forgotten layer and look through the evil layer, if you're not in both layers at once, only the forgotten layer should be rendered
That's why there would also be cubic chunks. Loading one layer at a time helps further prevent lag.
so what to you think, Y should go from -3840 to 256, right?
wait, as the game would only keep 1 layer loaded at a time, why not we keep all the layers there are instead of merging 2 layers into a single one?
That's the whole point of the portals thing as part of my suggestion. Igniting the portal will allow access to the next layer, which will be the travel method between layers. Think of it as the dimensional doors mod, if you ever used it.
I think you should wait, it'll be about one more day, but you can add them if you want. Just expect to change them very soon.
