Looks rather interesting. Badlands are nice landmarks around the outer-world. (A.k.a: Earth. I'm sort of typing this from the use of that one computer-screen mod. Hurray for typing with blockish hands...?)
I especially like the color (I guess) that this is. Despite it being just a bunch of red sand with a 'Mesa' clay. (No? Okay, sorry then...)
(I am also sorry if this made no sense. I'm new to doing this kind of activity: Forum posting. For a man who hates Social-doing, it's tough to figure out what to type :c)
I mean that what it is at it's core is useless. Sunflower Plains are good for gathering yellow dye fast, Birch Forest are good for gathering birch wood fast. This biome offers nothing new except a mob which is also apparently found in (Allah forbid) our beautiful Mesas and Deserts too.
@OP Those drops are basically buffed cow drops. If this is implemented like this it'll be farmed like hell, you have my word on it.
Not sure how feasible farming sun salamanders would be. Unlike breedable cows which are op as hell as it is, these things, as far as I can tell, aren't gonna be breedable. On top of that, you'd be paying for a stack of beef with your armor, which would be destroyed by a large pack. In the end, that meat would be food for the desperate. Also, since they're animal mobs, they shouldn't respawn.

They would spawn in mob farms would they not? (Not rhetorical, a real question)

I'm not sure you know what a forum is.
The animal spawning algorithms only function with newly generated terrain. That means they would NEVER spawn for a mob farm on already discovered territory to harvest them. It's the reason why megaservers often have no animals near spawn.... So it can make sun salamanders quite rare in smp.
I do like the Sun Salamanders, although I suggest making them much less deadly for people with little to no armor or who are starting out.

this biome seems like a good idea, especially the sinkholes, salamanders an interesting mob concept. can he be tamed? will certain ores be more abundant than others? can vanilla villages spawn in this biome? will dead bushes spawn? or any plantlife? i'm on the understanding in real life grasses, cacti, trees, shrubs and wildflowers all grow in this area
for anyone saying they'll be farmed (the salamander). it would be easier to farm the hell out of cows than go looking for this. i use the feed station from railcraft and an anchor from railcraft put a stack of wheat in a couple stations then go about my business come back 30 mins later nearly 50 cows for the slaughter. easier than looking for a mob that only spawns in a couple places.
and when you think about it all biomes are useless in one way or another. i only use oak and acacia wood so that makes birch and spruce forests useless to me, i hardly ever use dyes so that makes sunflower fields useless to me. see where i'm going with this?
This isn't a bad idea. But you can easily get all of this clay through a mesa. I would say my suggestion is to maybe change the clay color. Other than that, the thread is great!

I just made them dangerous because I mean it is the "Bad Lands", but thanks for Idea maybe I will tone down the damage a little bit
