I'm crazy excited over the vibrant colored solid blocks. At last, white blocks, truly white blocks that don't involve having to mine endlessly in the nether. Blue blocks that don't make you use lapis better suited for enchanting. Think of the modern houses, the suburban styles. .. driveways. Black blocks not made of wool. This is finally going to be the answer to it all.
It seems to me that Minecraft 1.12 is going to be a builders update and I hope that is true. Minecraft builders need new blocks like the glazed terracotta block and the concrete block to spice up our builds and I'm glad Mojang is recognizing this and taking action.
The new colour palette is just gorgeous and vibrant, reminiscent of Classic, which I like. Especially that light blue, which previously was something I simply just glazed over but now I just find it looking very delicious. After looking at it for a while, I couldn't help but lick my lips.
The concrete blocks are a godsend. I have always wanted a block that came in all colours that was simple, smooth and clean that I can use in builds that is not weak like wool or dull like stained clay, even though the acquirement method is a bit tedious. It currently goes as my third top thing I like in 2017.
Concrete powder, which I think should just be called cement, is cool I guess. I like the idea of coloured sand but didn't find it as appealing as the other features.
Glazed terracotta seemed weird to me at first because its detail seemed very out of place but now I really like it and I can imagine using it, mostly for floors. But I'll have to agree that the Creeper face on the cyan is despisable and would look better without it.
I always find my inventory to be full when in creative but I never realised how much I needed to save hotbars. Like the quick switch between creative and spectator, I might find myself using it often. Also I'd like to have enchanted dispensers. Not sure how'd it work but I'd like it if they add it.
Personally, I am liking where this update is going and would relieve the blandness of 1.10 and 1.11.
Will 1.12 have swimming fish or flying birds or will zombie spawners work again spawning both regular and zombie villagers? New blocks are nice, the patterns look a lot like the ones in Rising World.
Eh, Jeb has hinted at the possibility of birds in the past but seeing the theme of this update it seems unlikely. The reason Zombie spawners don't spawn Zombie Villagers anymore is due to an internal code change. Now, the two are by code, separate mobs, rather than a variation. This is to allow for the use of the extra spawn eggs we got.
If you play in the new snapshot, they should be possible to obtain since they are crafted through recipes and not naturally generated. And even if they are naturally generated, they will generate in new chunks.

I have mixed feelings about this update.
It has a great addition: "Save toolbars in Creative Mode". I simply love it.
The rest of the things, I really don't care about any of them.
I'm not going to use any of the new blocks, as there are tons of mods offering block alternatives to the ones in vanilla.
I think anybody can add a mob here and a block there, but it should be mojang building great tools to help modders to do things easily, like adding a new mob, or block or changing behavior.
I think future updates should make more interesting things like command blocks and structure blocks.
Mojang builds the tools, we (players) add the content...that's how I think it should be.
Edit: I've just shown the snapshot to my 6 year old son. I showed the terracotta blocks to him...he said "ok" and turned around not interested at all.
I believe the cyan terracotta is gonna be retextured soon anyways. Because one of the patterns you can do with it, the on in the screenshot, is a bit... offensive.
Jeb did confirm on the 17w06a Reddit thread that it would be changed in an upcoming snapshot:
Don't care for the terracotta blocks - too hard to get right and they are just too cartoony.
The concrete blocks are nice - a great replacement for the stained clay which for the most part make no sense with regards to their colors and names (black doesn't look black, etc).
I agree about the hardened clay blocks, and i hope the concrete blocks dont share another similarity with hardened clay--they come with slabs and stairs. I like building with clay but it's disappointin that the clay is nothing but blocks. No clay slabs, no clay stairs, no chiseled clay. Just brick.
I was testing out block combinations to swap out the hardened clay block in my base (they were accent blocks, so I thought they would fit better with the sci-fi theme), and I noticed that the new color palette didn't match the already-existing glass palate in all colors. This might just be a nit-pick of mine, but it's something I couldn't help but notice.
As for the terracotta blocks, I think some work well (blue, gray, light-gray), but most (in my opinion), are just blocks to be re-textured. I can't see how exactly they can be incorporated in any build, but feel free to prove me wrong.

Really? I swear they matched well when I tried them. Now, I am going to have to go back to my created world and check. thanks for the heads up.
There will be absolutely no more talk about genocide, Nazis, swastikas, or anything else of that nature in this thread, or people will start getting substantial warnings and temp bans.
Well, I'm not fond of the changes to wool. Light blue in particular I rather like the way it is. All the new stuff, however, looks great. Both the concrete and terracotta will add some interesting construction possibilities.
And that quickbar change is just plain useful. : )

I have to agree with the light blue wool...and a lot of the more vibrant wool, but I guess that's what a texture pack is for, right?
I actually haven't found myself using the save-toolbar function all that much. I'd rather grab the blocks out of my inventory with the middle-mouse button. I can see how it's useful though.
If you have an idea for vanilla Minecraft, you would post that idea in the Suggestions forum.

I'm im thinking of playing with this in my current survival world. But i don't know if the
new blocks will get added since the world was originally made in 1.11.2...
Anyways it won't hurt to try. I'll make a copy of my current progress and start playing it with the this snapshot.

Figured it was time for a change.

Love the new blocks, but why oh why does concrete have a lower blast resistance than wood?!

Why are they putting these in the game when slabs/stairs are still not implemented from other blocks?

Take yellow concrete and yellow glass as my prime example. The glass looks lighter than the concrete.
Edit: I'm not necessarily saying that they don't work well (though I would prefer they be the same palate).

It wouldn't surprise me if they tweaked the glass palette in a future snapshot.
