I managed to bypass it yesterday by copying the files for the old launcher from another computer and putting them in the Minecraft directory. Just get offline, and you'll be fine. Also, I find it odd that the new launcher doesn't work offline. :/
It does work offline, I have tried it.
I think it only lets you go offline if you have no internet...? Maybe if you have a connection but it isn't getting through (maybe blocked), it doesn't think you are offline.

I'm getting this error. Someone?? PLEASE HELP
People having issues with the Minecraft client or launcher should post a thread in the Support section:
i ran around downloading and updating my drivers thinking my graphics card was busted but then a miss click later my minecraft is perfectly fine because i used the old launcher.
if this IS a beta i sure as heck hope they fix this ASAP.

Yeah, sucks that happened to you. I doubt that they will fix that because the launcher officially supports computers that run Windows 7 or better, AKA newer computers from within the last 5 years.
I can no longer play forge 1.7.10 with or without mods on this new launcher, should never have been updated.
Yeah, they purposely programmed it that way. Probably because Microsoft hates people that mod their products, and Minecraft is technically their product. Heck, it is a pain to play it in a custom directory now, because the new launcher has hard-coded places where it installs the files.
It is ironic that people are having trouble running Forge on the new launcher, yet I have not had any issues running jar mods, which have traditionally been harder to install (the old launcher would reset the jar file unless you modified the json file to remove the download links; prior to that you had to rename it):

12:25:36 launcher Minecraft client TMCWv4 is ready to start.
Somehow though this does not seem to work for everybody; there can't be anything different about my Minecraft installation, other than OS (Windows 10) and the way it was installed (using the Windows installer). I have not had any other issues with it either, aside from redownloading itself every time I open the launcher (which was supposed to start up faster, not that it takes too long); I have noticed that the version number has incremented but have they ever heard of incremental updates (download and install separate files instead of one giant file)?
It is worth noting that the the first time I ran a modded profile the launcher deleted my custom version json file and recreated it (previous versions of the launcher never touched custom version jsons); I'm not sure what was changed, other than the formatting (the file lost 2 KB in size and has less whitespace; the launcher complained that its hash was invalid (found xxx, expected yyy), despite not having a hash or being able to find one online), but there are no issues running the game; maybe this is causing issues with Forge, which is extremely picky about the integrity of its files (I once ran Forge and installed my own mods into the Forge jar and had to use JVM arguments to tell it to ignore the changes; however, modifying the json file was not an issue).
Also, custom game directories still work for me, at least existing ones do; I have two under the .minecraft folder; .minecraft\TMCWv4 and .minecraft\Testing (there have always been issues with versions prior to 1.6 not using the correct directory but that is more of a Minecraft bug).
Okay people, the laucher MAY or MAY NOT work properly, but saying it's Microsoft's fault is NOT going to help - especially since Microsoft has stated before they are NOT involved with Java Minecraft. Get your facts straight before posting about issues or they won't be taken seriously.

Forge works just fine for me with the new launcher.
And this has nothing to do with Microsoft, Dinnerbone has been working on this launcher before there were event talk about MS buying Mojang.
Which is why the altered the EULA so it explicitly states that you can no longer mod Minecraft!!!
Oh wait... no they didn't/ Because they don't care if you mod the game or not.
Want more proof of that? Microsoft brought mods to console. Fallout 4 and Skyrim allow you to download mods on your Xbox One. If Microsoft was so anti-mod, why would they allow modding games on a platform they have complete control over?
Get of the Microsoft hate wagon please, they have nothing to do with this.
Then explain why Microsoft wanted to sue this guy all because he modded his Xbox console. Also, I love how you made fun of me and my post, not like you do that to other people on here as well.
Then why does the new launcher look like one of those Windows 10 Metro Apps meant for phones?
Firstly, that's completely irrelevant. Applications that have nothing to do with Microsoft- besides being made for their OS -use Metro.
Secondly, the launcher doesn't use the Metro design. Metro design has flat colours and only flat colours. The new launcher has some flat colour, but it also uses bevels, textures and shadows. The tab text changes colour on hover, in Metro the tab background changes colour. I can give other examples if you're not convinced.

Modding ANY console from ANY company is illegal, so blaming that on Microsoft just shows that you don't know anything about the issue. Modding a game is WAY different from modding a console.
Lets steer this conversation back to the original topic, about any bugs that people are experiencing with the new launcher. Discussion about being able to mod consoles and things like that are not relevant to the launcher's functionality.

Though I'm not sure how well it will work on a system that's already had the new launcher installed. YMMV - use at your own risk, but that is the old official launcher.

It's not McAfee.. I've uninstalled mcafee and the problem still persist.
Well, my son was just forced to install the new launcher and it deleted all his saves in the process. Not cool !
i strongly urge everyone to backup their entire minecraft folder before going anywhere near that nonsense.

Are people supposed to have the new launcher? because I don't.
One of the Mojang developers stated that it will be rolling out to people over a couple of weeks:
https://twitter.com/MansOlson/status/826116586515865601
It may take another week or so before you receive it.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
