I have heard and seen some videos about the new launcher for minecraft. So I want to know if it is real, what is so special about it, what are the new features, where I can get it and if it is better than the last one. Thanks!

LogDotZip reviewed it, so I'd say it's pretty legit
The idea is it's so much more "clean" and "organized"
Less text, more pictures

Stuff like that.
Also, it's not Java-Based, make of that what you will.
I personally have my concerns if Java is completely phased-out how that will impact the modding community.
Assuming they don't choose to make MC's code next to impossible to mod, anyways, C++ is EXTREMELY difficult to program with.
But, we'll see how that goes, I guess.
I suppose it's ok.
My biggest problem from the launcher is OS compatibility, specifically, Windows.
MC is gradually becoming one of those games where you need to replace the computer every year just to play.
The new launcher isn't nearly as backwards-compatible as it ought to be, or, it's not specified as such, anyways.
In that case, that could FORCE people to buy entirely new computers just to keep playing, since the current one will be dropped at some point.
That is honestly not a good thing to be doing.
But, again, we'll see. It's still in beta, and certainly far from complete.
Actually the game is and will continue to be Java-based. It's only the launcher that's not, so the majority of modding should be uneffected. As for your concerns, I don't see where you're getting that information from; the launcher works 100% with me and my old computer with even older and outdated hardware.
Anyway, you can get the beta version of the new launcher on this Reddit post.
But the push is to completely be rid of Java eventually if I understand correctly?
Other languages may be faster, but some are also much more difficult to code with in general.
If MC were to overnight (yah, i know, WON'T happen, but...example) switch-over to something like C++ , that would cause a lot of problems for the modding community at first. Worse case is some mods just die when their devs can't keep updating them due to not understanding C++ (We've already lost some mods in part or entirely because of one significant change to the game or modding having occurred)
I'm not all that worried about it for now, still, it is something to consider.
Well, it doesn't explicitly state that, so they're probably not supported.
They may work, but there's no guarantee they always will.
How old are you talking?
I'm aware.
It'd do me no good right now due to my present computer situation.
pretty sure it's speculation based on current trends.
however, this speculation is at least believable. (unlike these guys who say "hey, gais, red dragons!")
At this point it's unknown what exactly will eventually become.
There is desire even from within the community to drop Java, though.
I wouldn't be so sure that they plan to discontinue Java MC, not soon at least. They recently hired two new devs, LadyAgnes and Mia. They may discontinue it in the future of course, but for now Java MC seems to be picking up speed.

Don't panic. Java MC will keep on going, if for no other reason than to have a MC for the non-Windows users (mac, Linux, etc.) or for those who haven't upgraded to Windows 10 (yet... eventually they'll have to, just as they eventually updated from even older Windows versions).
They may have hired the 2 additional java people because 2 existing people were moved to help with other projects- like Win10/PE, Realms, etc. "We" don't know. But I doubt very seriously that java MC is "picking up speed".... if anything, it will be lucky to just "maintain".

Even if the Java version development is eventually discontinued the java game would remain playable for quite some time on current OS versions. We'll cross that bridge if and when it occurs, but no sense in dwelling on it at this point in time.
C++ difficult to program? For who? Elementary school kids? C++ is one of the most verbose and easiest to work with, next to C#. I wish they would convert to C#, then the truly talented modders could make some amazing stuff.
Nearly everyone who I've talked to about it, or who has ever brought it up, that I know of, anyways.
One of my friends is actually having problems with C# in the parsing of external data files like JSON and XML, but...yes, it'd probably be an improvement. I have yet to learn it yet (and when reviewing the source decompiled with MCP, there's quite a few things about Java I certainly am far from understanding even just slightly)

What is with people always accusing or making assumptions of me? (well, not usually on here, but...) I am neither dwelling on this or saying it will happen, just saying it is extremely plausible, and we best be prepared for whatever repercussions that has when/if it does occur.

You mean downgraded... But yes, eventually...they'll force us to 'upgrade' to an OS we don't want, that's probably riddled with spyware. Yep...
Sadly... Wonder how much paid DLC or upgrades we'll get to pay for at whatever point?
That kind of thinking isn't even worth responding to.
Know what is riddled with spyware and adware? Flash. I had to break down and get Spyhunter 4 to get rid of it all. Even Spybot wouldn't touch it, and Avast didn't stop it.
Let's not even go there. I'm actually very much against this FORCING "security" on people when it comes at expense of convenience. Same as I see no true "advancements" in most of the current tech industry. People don't like flash, that's fine, they can uninstall it, or never install it in the first place. Ad-blockers also help, as it's hardly flash that is to blame, but advertisers making shady ads. (in which case, HTML5 will be no different, besides causing more lag in the case of canvas, or potentially throwing support errors with webGL) But, I like my flash games, animations, etc... I read at some point spyhunter isn't as good or is supposedly a virus, itself. Avast scared the crap outta me when I installed it, and it was swiftly removed. The way modern AVs are going, I'm skeptical about getting ANY of them. "Heuristic Analysis" (fancy term for guessing what;s a virus and being wrong 90+ percent of the time) , and no proper shut-off switch... They're getting to be just like viruses. I keep having to whitelist programs on the ones on this computer I am using. It's friggin' annoying. In the end of the day, it's primarily about being cuatious and not going to potentially dangerous sites, or downloading stuff carelessly. Computers under my ownership have had flash, and shockwave (and Java). Very few viruses, and all due to me doing something stupid. Tracking cookies? pft... those won't ever go away. Flash isn't the only thing that stores them. I got tired of removing them. How people have SO many problems with Flash is beyond me, I've dealt with worse from "recommended" programs and even OS/vendor default junkware.
Regardless of what junk might be or might not be installed on Win10, simple fact is there's no comparing it to EVERYTHING that preceded it, and 8. People hated VISTA, and vista is a saint as opposed to 8 and 10. I have heard mostly horror stories about both, and I got to experience 8 a couple years ago because I was helping someone who happened to have a windows 8 machine. Pretty much hated it. From a technological standpoint, 8 and 10 are inferior to what came before them. The only people standing to benefit from them are Microsoft (at least till it destroys what little remains of their rep), and possibly the governmental spying programs.
Paid DLC, though you didn't even touch on the subject, is a very real possibility. Console edition has this in ample supply, and I don't condone it. Realms I have overall mixed feelings about, servers DO cost money, but what is the REAL reason for offering such a service?
My viewpoints are actually more valid than you're giving them credit for. I've analyzed scenarios past and present, thus developing quite real possibilities for the future. Sure, they're not set in stone, but the thing about these kinds of trends is that once started, they tend to follow a pretty well defined path. I put careful thought into my thinking, so you shouldn't be so quick to judge its worth. Really, these are all opinions, but if you think MS is to be trusted? I believe very much the opposite to be true. Mojang also cannot for sure be trusted, since MS owns them, and contrary to anything that might be said, could be dictating their every action, and what they can or cannot say. I was skeptical when that whole deal initially went through, and although I tried to keep high hopes, recent trends are extremely concerning.
Think of that what you may, this wasn't intended to be a discussion about what OS is better, or whether Flash is bad or good... I merely brought-up as I did because I at this point have some genuine concerns about the future of MineCraft. Anyone who truly cares about what happens to the game in future is welcome to express that they're a bit worried the way things are headed. They can even say they're ANGRY about it. And they certainly SHOULD say what's on their mind, as maybe it will spread through the community, and as an extension, become an issue for the developers. Can we please return to the original discussion? Had I seen this little debate/argument breaking-out, I never would've mentioned any of it, since people seem to like to create problems where they did not exist... And I'm getting REALLY tired of having to censor my opinions because they either offend someone, or someone blows everything out of proportion. I simply stated that based on the current trends, I have some concerns what will happen. No more, no less. I didn't say I dwell on them night and day. In fact, I generally approve of most of the newer updates as far as the Java game is concerned. But, I can't help but wonder/worry about everything else? Even so, I don't allow this to be the ONLY thing I think about. For the time being, my vision of the future for the game is actually mostly optimistic.
This is getting off topic. Let's return the discussion purely to the features of the new launcher, and not about if Minecraft will eventually change languages or other such scenarios.

I managed to find the new launcher with one of the links in the post and I think its awesome! It gives Minecraft more of a modern feel. Newbies are not going to want to be confused by all the different buttons like the current launcher has. And to the ones complaining that it will not work on Windows Vista; well here are the facts; Windows 10 is much better user friendly and you can get to all your power tools by simply right-clicking the start button or type in what you need in Cortana. If your computer can run Vista then it is very likely able to run Windows 10 as Microsoft optimized it to run on even lower computers than Windows 10. If you have been running Vista for 10 years; no offence but your computer probably won't even run Minecraft being that old.

That's what I was saying.
All I did was mention that it's a possibility, and be prepared when/if it does happen.
But, yes...this debate is getting rather old.

I never said that feature-wise it's bad. From what I saw, the new launcher is AWESOME!
That second part is very much an opinion. Also, XP still can run MC, all that really impacts the Java version:
RAM, CPU, GPU
So, yes, I take offense to that.
As I recall, MC win10 exists because the NEW Windows don't support the old one properly? (or at least, this was an issue with 8...)
At some point (8), Windows lost backwards-compatibility with a majority of the existing programs. And, before you go saying "well, update them!" that is simply impossible, Many haven't even had any form of support for a number of years. The UI theme was "simplified" (e.g. took no REAL effort to create), the overall UI theme was "optimized for tablets and smart devices", the start menu was totally butchered. (Those who say it's great, install SO many programs that the menu takes your entire screen on 7 and below! The new one would be the biggest pain in the butt to navigate in that case) You may as well go and buy an iphone or ipad. That is windows 8 and up in a nutshell. The "new" features are available on any other lame "smart device" Any "upgrade" that removes or degrades many of the features a previous version had is no improvement, it's a downgrade, successful only by marketing, and dated business/economic models.
Back to the new launcher, I'm getting tired of making this argument, because that's NOT what I came here to do...
