To Be Honest They Are not Really Op Unless you have Diamond Armor
~Panda
That makes absolutely no sense; what do Shulker boxes have to do with diamond armor? They are not weapons nor armor; the best that they might do is allow you to carry extra sets of armor, but Mending makes that unnecessary.

Again to my point, which people used the "... don't HAVE to use" part of...
The community aspect is, they spoke out and wanted more storage space, as well as It also encourages people to "Go out and explore." First, you'll get more than just two or three from a single possible end city, you have to explore the End for more shulkers, due to no respawn. Also, it encourages people to go out, or stay out longer in the world having more invent space. Not everyone is like me, and I fair to guess like Mastercaver, and extreme cave or explore regardless of the fact. I'm weird, I LIKE going back and forth making my drops after filling up my invent, and chests.
Also, comparing a chest with no physical impact on the game other than holding things, with a God Sword, is irrelevant. Not to mention, kind of my point about the commands too. You CAN GIVE yourself that weapon, but we make the choice not you use it
Not to mention it has its penalties. First, its materials. I believe with Looting III it was recorded as a barely over 60% drop rate for the shells on mobs that don't respawn, in the End. IF you use it as a back back combo with the Ender chest, you have to set down the ender chest, pull out the shulker boxes one by one, and either open the boxes to get the items out, or be forced to set up at the very least minor redstone to unload. Then SILK TOUCH it back into your invent, or carry eyes of ender or other ender chests in yet another shulker box. If you choose NOT to use an ender chest, you risk the chance of losing EVERYTHING in the box upon death, or accidental destruction, i.e. cactus or lava garbaging. For every moment I am not in my base, (although let's be honest even sometimes then), I am in more danger of creepage, or other doom related attacks. Survival.
Not to mention, most everyone is looking at this thing as a back pack. It is also going to revolutionize mob farms, and amazing redstone builds to come for example.
Shulker box are OP. But to get them you need to go the end, kill the Ender Dragon, and kill the shulkers and then go OUT from there. (You not HAVE to kill the dragon.) Its realy hard to get shulker boxes so thats fine that they are op

I find them VERY useful - you can carry with you one enderchest filled with theese - each diferent color and name - and categorize your stuff easily. and If you die - no problem - the enderchest still remains as it was with the boxes in it.
full inventory of theese full of stacks od gold blocks - 1 600 819.2 tons of gold. And that's a lot.
-Being stuck in the same place you began sucks. What if by the end game I have found a new area I like more?
I enjoy the idea of moving everything out of the side of a mountain into a nice looking home.
-If you find game progression as an obsolete feature... I'm not
certain how to reply. If you can place the shulker box in a chest then
the chest is actually really awesome and it has been imbued by
awesomeness. If that is not the case, my statement of game progression
still stands. In no way does moving items from one place to another
"break the game". There are chest minecarts. Am I able to put a shulker
box in a minecart? Looks like those chests aren't that obsolete after
all. Hoppers are more expensive as well if you were to look at the
material cost for some rails. They would also require you to use more of
the same material. Giving you more stuff to do with iron.
-Power is represented by the amount something can force or try.
Utility is not a Kamehaha wave. Utility is a function designed to aid in
an action, not kill something with.
-also with these things you can set up a dungeon with non random loot. with the /tp command you could teleport a whole chest of goodies to a spot that you needed it. and I'm all for that.
I recently moved to a place that is about an 8 minute boat ride from my previous place and I didn't even bother transferring all of my items. I just took basic stuff and obtained everything new. I recently discovered that making a nether bridge between portals is a lot quicker if I were to go back to my previous base and get stuff.
A mobile chest would have been perfect for the move. It might be OP but from what I've read it doesn't seem easily obtainable. I can't wait to get one for myself.

It becomes extremely easy to obtain by exploiting the 1.11 duplication glitch(only apples to servers apparently). You can also duplicate EVERY item in said Shulker Box using the glitch.
And yet the Shulker Boxes are STILL not considered as overpowered by the community. The only way Mojang can make them non-OP or balance them after this glitch is patched is to either reset every single Shulker Box(which would suck), or implant a system that gets rid of the exact duplicates made by the glitch.

Glitches are not supposed to be there. They don't make it OP because they're not an intentionally designed part of the balance, and will be removed as soon as someone notices and finds out how to get rid of them.

Technically it does make them OP, as players that abused the glitch now have hundreds of Shulker Boxes with hundreds of duplicated items held within. It doesn't help that Mojang made them have the same slots as a regular chest, and allows them to be placed in Enderchests.
Would you like it if you were killed repeatedly or griefed by someone that had duplicated hundreds of Shulker Boxes that contained tons of TNT or god weapons?

"How about we implant a pickaxe that kills everything instantly, gives the same amount of resources as Fortune 20, and was crafted with shulker shells??? Sure it's OP, but you HAVE to go to the end and do all of this stuff to get it, so it's perfectly fine!"
Locking an OP item behind a wall that requires doing tons of stuff doesn't make the item less OP, which is what the entire community thinks right now about the Shulker Boxes.

Remember that servers don't really count as vanilla Minecraft, even when unmodded. It is nearly impossible to balance servers, so Mojang shouldn't be expected to. The main thing that makes or breaks a mechanic is whether it is OP in singleplayer or in a small LAN party/ server with friends.
I wouldn't want to go on a server and be instantly killed by someone in fully enchanted diamond gear, but that doesn't make diamonds or enchantments OP.

Tell me, then, how you are supposed to balance something in Minecraft. In other games, you can lock powerful items behind story progression or a level requirement, for example. However, these don't work for Minecraft. Literally, the only way you can balance items is by locking them behind natural progression, or, as you call it, "a wall that requires doing tons of stuff." Yeah, that pickaxe you used as an example is OP no matter how much effort is required to get it because it makes everything else obsolete and removes all difficulty from the game. However, shulker boxes do not do that.
if u get hit by 1 shulker then u will die no matter what!
just be careful shulker box is really really cool its so useful espiaically on creative mode so u can pick blocks rlly easily
but no they arent op they just well imean theyre not k good
You do not die when hit by a Shulker's projectile. The only way you could die is if you are over a huge fall, which most players wont be over that as they usually have enough Levitation time to get above a higher platform.
Also, you might want to work on your grammer and spelling abilities.
They potentially make regular chests obsolete, as you can carry them around wit you at all times. Literally the only use for chests after you get a Shulker Box is to store other Shulker Boxes. Also, like the BACKPACK mod(which Shulker Boxes are very similar to), you can color code them and organize stuff far easier.

Wood is far easier to obtain than shulker shells, so if I need storage, I'll use a regular wood chest and only use shulker boxes for stuff I need to carry around. There's no reason for me to carry objects like ore around with me, so I'll drop that off at a chest at my house, and if I run out of space, I'll use a regular static wood chest rather than go out, take an hour getting shulker shells, and build a shulker box. Wood chests are far more viable for long-term storage and are thus not obsolete.

I would want the glitch fixed. But then, it's going to get fixed, whether I want it or not.
I would not want shulker boxes removed. Just the glitch. Shulker boxes are not overpowered because of the glitch. The glitch is overpowered by itself.

But if the glitch doesn't make them overpowered, then why are Shulker Boxes always duplicated when people exploit this glitch? Because having tons of Shulker Boxes basically makes them OP. The glitch allows them to grow on trees, as if you are using them while in Creative Mode.
I'm late to the party.... Why is having a survival kit in your inventory OP? Yes it gives you a ton more space than intended but you have to look at the risk reward factor. Do you think it's OP if you could literally lose all your good stuff stored away into one due to an errant creeper? What if you die in the middle of nowhere? The chest is not OP as it has a super balance factor in the fact that at any moment you can lose 27 inventory slots worth of items at any given moment. That's my two cents though and I respect the people's opinions that state it is OP but I don't think it is

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
