Hm... not sure what to think of this. I mean, I'm not sure how much stock to place in forum surveys, but the results are actually showing that most people like 1.9, like we've been saying this whole time.
The last question actually left me unsure of how to answer, so good job there. Sometimes the mob AI is trickier than I would like. Sometimes it does make things frustrating. But what was normally frustrating turned out be be thrilling the first time I triggered a Skeleton Horse. It spawned in a library I was building, so I made sure my weapons and food were in order, made sure I had a safe spot to retreat to, then started trading arrows with the four horsemen. It was difficult, but haven't had a good wrangle like that in a LONG time.

My big issue with the 1.9 update has always been the sword cooldown. I like the idea of the shield, and I think the shield pairs nicely with the cooldown, if you have a diamond sword, or even better, enchanted diamond. As it stands right now, though, I cannot stop a creeper from blowing up after the first hit, because backing up seems to be slower. I can't hit creepers multiple times quickly. I had plans for a hardcore survival series for my youtube channel, but since I can't seem to stay alive beyond one or two recordings due to creeper explosions, I'll have to shelve that idea. And I don't find the shield to lend enough protection from a creeper blast, especially in hardcore.
When we wanted a combat update, I don't think this is what we had in mind. The cooldown may require us to time our attacks, but it really doesn't open doors to new strategies. The potion strategy has always been there, and when I play by myself (without recording), I typically use harming potions against hordes of mobs. People who didn't use potions before the combat update, just didn't know how to play Minecraft.
My other issue with the update is the blaze powder being needed to activate the brewing stand. Brewing was fine as it was, and it did not need to be changed. What's the point of using a blaze rod to craft a brewing stand, if we have to heat it up with the blaze powder? That just doesn't make any sense.
I was fine with the Enderdragon battle being updated, because it really needed to be updated. What I was not fine with, was expanding The End. Because it's THE END. I'm not okay with respawning the dragon as well, because again, it's THE END. This has been an iconic part of Minecraft for such a long time, and for that reason, things like this should not have been added. If the Enderdragon dropped an item upon death that would allow us to craft a new weapon, to me, that would make the combat update an actual COMBAT update. Did Mojang even think this through before they did it?
When it comes to server PvP, I see people on Mineplex use hacks quite often in survival games, despite the 1.9 update. People will make hacks that will eliminate the sword cooldown, or at the very least, compensate for it. So 1.9 didn't ruin servers, hackers ruined servers a long time ago.
But i won't use it due to 1.9, which is by far, the WORST update EVER!
Like seriously, why would they add an extra hand? It's pretty darn useless!
Another thing they went too far with is the combat system. Like cool down time? SERIOUSLY?!
Everything else is good tho.
*curses Microsoft*
If you doesn't like the off hand - don't use it. We'll continue using a bow and a sword, and lighting up our mineshafts while mining, and all using left and right mouse buttons, no scroll weel or numbers. Also you can use it as a food holder, so if you want to eat - just hold RMB. Also it's just an additional slot in your hotbar and inventory.
Well, it's not really a "cooldown" time, it's more of a charge time. In many games, when you have a special ability, you can use it right now, but with less power, or you wait till it charges up, and your ability will be incredibly powerful. Same in minecraft, but with normal ability to hit and it's much faster (0.6 seconds waiting is very big? Really?). Also, don't forget about 0.5 seconds immunity for all living entities after any kind of damage. It was there since... I don't know. (Since very first addition of damage? Wiki says nothing about it.) Any way, it was there for very long time, and it's still there, in 1.9. So spamclickers just wasted lots of clicks 'cos they didn't want to think. And now they waste more, as only the first click is powerful for them.
There's no Microsoft in 1.9 update. It's only Mojang's "fault".
Just how many times it has to be said, that Microsoft don't have anything to do with developing the game. Mojang does. Even though Microsoft owns Mojang and that way Minecraft. Now only thing Microsoft can do, is to give their help in coding Minecraft more efficiently. That's all they are doing. Microsoft isn't adding anything to the game nor are they removing anything to the game. You see, if it would be Microsoft developing the game, there wouldn't be Mojangs logo on the game when you are loading it up! There would be Microsofts logo. Get it?! And the attachement below is for you Kh0bez.
This is the first time I've seen someone say they don't like 1.9 because they think dual wielding is pointless, so congratulations, I guess
He's not the only one! Though I think that it isn't quite pointless as it is unneeded. It didn't make minecraft better.

You need pretty decently enchanted sword to take out a creeper quickly. And I've noticed that it seems like backing up is a bit slower so I don't seem to be able to get back far enough to keep the creepers from blowing much of the time. HOWEVER, if I remember to raise the shield up then it blocks the blast enough that I usually don't take damage. So if you actively use the shield you can survive much better.
The blaze powder may not make much sense but it's not that hard to accumulate quite a bit of it so I'm not sure it's a problem. But I don't tend to make a lot of potions. They can certainly be quite useful but I tend to focus a lot more time on building than going out fighting.
I can't say for sure if Mojang thought this through. BUT I do know they get an awful lot of feedback (maybe all of it...) from Reddit....
• I like it, because now there is more to do in the game after you beat the ender dragon, wither, and elder
• @theartbook35's post about the end does have a point. Nevertheless, I still like the changes because it adds to do.
Brewing now needs blaze rod:
• I find this change pointless, as there was no problem with brewing before.
Cool down:
• I really hate this. But, as I said earlier, this is only my preference. I like the fast paced reflex based gameplay.
• I believe 1.9 ruins the soup mod because soup really has no point when you aren't doing much damage per second. Soup is a mod on many servers, but this doesn't make a very good argument.
• The cool down also makes it harder to kill mobs. I don't think it should be that hard.
Off-hand slot:
• this can be useful for some things, like placing torches when mining in a cave, but I don't find myself using it that much
• this is also kind of useless if you can hotkey
Shields:
• I really hate shields. I find that they obscure your view.
• I don't like how they take up the off-hand slot, so you can't block if you don't have a shield or if it isn't in your off-hand slot. If I need to quickly block if i fall off a small cliff and the shield isn't in my off-hand slot or I don't have one, I can't block.
• I don't like how they have durability and are crafted for solely blocking. I think you should still be able to block if you have a sword, but with a sword there should be some cons, like not being able to deflect arrows vs a shield being able to.
There are some other changes, but they're not worth mentioning since they are mostly small and are fine with me.
I agree with a lot of your comments.

The people who hate it the most are pvpers. Spam clicking and 'Strafing' is the key to a successful fight. Know that they have made cooldowns people cant do that anymore which as caused uprising. In my opinion i say that they should remove the cooldowns to satisfy pvpers. My speciality is pvping so i dont like the update much either.
One of the things good about it is that hackers cant use 'kill aura' anymore since hitting someone before the cooldown is finished wont 'or do very little' damage. But as we speak hack client makers are thinking of new ideas to pass this.
• I believe 1.9 ruins the soup mod because soup really has no point when you aren't doing much damage per second. Soup is a mod on many servers, but this doesn't make a very good argument.
The items can be changed to have over9000 full clicks per second (this what attack speed means). It can be easily done in vanilla via attributes, and it's not harder on plugin servers (as soup mod is made via plugins)

Then again, that would make those, who like the cooldown start same kind of uproar than cooldown haters do now. You can't please/satisfy everyone, that's why Mojang is not going to remove it. Maybe just add the option to turn it off with game rule, like someone in this said forum already suggested in some thread few months back. That way everyone would be happy.

I don't worry about fall damage - I just carry a boat. Actually I just took a boat off a cliff into lava and that does burn you. But still no fall damage while in a boat......
Actually most of the times I fall off a cliff tend to be over lava. Not sure why that is but that's been happening to me a LOT since 1.7.
What I meant is that I couldn't block without switching items if the shield isn't in my off-hand slot. Previously in 1.8 you could block if you had a sword in your hand you could block, which is almost always in my hand.
Well, it's the same as "you couldn't block without switching items if you aren't holding your sword" in previous versions. Though the sword is more used and more held.
