second most played game in the world...... OF COURS MINECRAFT IS CRIPPELED BECAUSE IT ONLY HAS FLIPPIN' MILLIONS OF PLAYERS ALL DAY. OH NOOOOOOO WHAT SHALL WE DOOOOOO????!!!!!!1111!!!!!!
Mojang is biting the hand that feeds them. Look what they did to McPvP. Bukkit. Two very popular groups that are just...gone. McPvP was probably the server I spent the most hours on. Sure, now it's called 'Brawl', but it's not the same knowing why everything was there in the first place. If you lived in a house of someone who couldn't pay for the house anymore, wouldn't that haunt you? Knowing the fate of the person before you? No one knows anything for sure in the future (and no, not things like 'i'm going to fart'), It could happen to you, it could happen to me. Yeah. Not a very happy thought.
Yes, I do. I'm saying Mojang might not get it right, so they might call it '1.10' instead of '2.0' like they should. If that doesn't answer your question, I'm referring to when Mojang finishes 1.9 and they move onto 2.0 (Which they might call 1.10 if they mess up)

No you do not, in programming language, you don't need to follow math rules. Think about Pocket Edition, 0.10, 0.11, and soon 0.12 or think about 1.7.10

I do not know any type of proper code, OK? You're missing the point of my original post! Were getting off topic. Let's ignore my mistake before we get into trouble, OK?

Even if the game is dying (I have no clue if it actually is or isn't) considering how large the game has gotten in general, it would take a long time for the population to decline to an extreme amount.
Minecraft isn't dying it's just not growing as quickly.
Ok here's the deal. Minecraft got really really popular a couple years ago. Now, some people aren't doing it any more, but a lot of people are still. Most people in most countries who would play it have heard of it. Most of the newcomers will be trickling in in the form of five year olds who just got pocket edition on the ipad. When they get older, they might get it for the pc. At this point, Mojang just needs to grow generations up with the game.
Well if a new game with better physics and better graphics but with all the same fuctiionality appears then minecraft will die very quickly. There are already lots of survival games like ARK survival that give opportunity to build.

You are wrong, because that kind game will instantly be seen as a minecraft clone. and as we all know, clones are rarely as successful as something that is seen as the "original".
Also, none of the other "minecraft like" games give as much creative freedom as minecraft gives, which is the true key behind minecraft's success. many of them don't even include a creative mode. there are some minecraft inspired games with alot of potential though.
Terraria is experiencing a massive popularity spike right now btw because of the 1.3 version, which is truly a huge update. "massive popularity spike" for terraria, which is probably the 2nd most popular voxel game after minecraft, maybe reach 20% of minecraft's current popularity. what's more, that spike is very likely to go down quite soon.

I have heard about some new game, Blockscape, some says it could be "Minecraft death' in the future. I haven't played it but screenshots look nice.
Yes, I have no clue to what I'm talking about even though I've played this game for 5 years. Truly, your knowledge is superior to mine. And it's not going incredibly strong, it's like some guy lifting weights who, slowly but surely, has the weights closer and closer to his body. And it's the most popular game of this time? Only because other games have had more than one games in the franchise. You mean to tell me Minecraft is more popular than GTA and Cod? Because it's not. Minecraft is dying. Everything dies at one point, and even if the point isn't now, it's on the horizon.

You can't ignore the actual data. how much you played the game doesn't matter in determining how popular it is right now because your experience with the game is statistically irrelevant. minecraft is not dying -of course a game is going to go somewhat down in popularity as it gets older, it's just natural because it's not "new" anymore. but minecraft still has a very strong playerbase - in fact it's still the biggest playerbase of any video game right now by far, and it's far, far from dying. it's pretty much guaranteed going to be considered a classic that will have a very big playerbase for decades.
And also, It's still a game based on creativity. and there is a challenge in minecraft - you are the one who creates your own challenges and determine how difficult they might be.
And lastly, be surprised but minecraft is much more popular than GTA and COD right now and there are actual stats and proves that show it.
Minecraft will not die for a long time to come, because of the way it's continually updated. The new content keeps us hooked and attracts new players into the game. Not only that, but the possibilites are really endless, there's no real storyline, so we can't exactly finish the game (unless you call killing the Ender Dragon finishing). This causes players to keep playing unlike other 'popular' games (CoD, Halo, GTA, etc) that need new versions and basically new gameplay to keep players.
a) Look at the YouTubers. They got the game popular. Mindcrack? Falling apart. Etho and Doc have let the group to play on Hermitcraft, which still has interest in the game. Chimneyswift. Stuck at 1.8 million subscribers for over a year. Antvenom. Stuck at 2.2-2.3 million for almost a year as well. Sky is still around 10/11 million. Lets look at Markiplier. He's been doing all sorts of games, and has grown to 8 million, and he was at 7 and 6 just a few months ago. He's growing so much faster than anyone could've thought.
b.) Updates. And not those tiny little 'security updates' which gives modders like the Optifine guy a migraine which the tiny changes to code.
c.) The big ones. 1.4. 1.5. Those two updates, with 1.5 being my favorite, were mere months apart. Mojang managed to do the same with 1.6 and 1.7, but we saw the bottom of the barrel with those. Now fast forward to 1.8. The 1.8 update came out 11 MONTHS LATER. ELEVEN. From maybe 4-6 to almost double. And here we see it again. September was the last huge update. It's July again. 2 months from September. And we finally get an update? NO! A SNAPSHOT THAT HAS NO RELEASE DATE AS OF NOW. Basically a prerelease.
d.) I know that Microsoft bought Mojang, and before you tell me they're why Minecraft is going down this hill, they're not. And no, I'm not saying this because I have an Xbox One. I'm saying this because they wanted Mojang to update the port on the Xbox. And can you blame him?
a.) Just because the Youtubers have not grown as fast as they used to means nothing. Maybe Minecraft on Youtube has reached it's rounding off point. Like a graph of a carrying capacity. It's slowed, but not decreasing.
b.) They do not in anyway, shape, or form give modders headaches and if anything protect Mojang from more security problems.
c.) 1.5 only added several blocks (easy) and a few optimization and lighting fixes. Those things are easy to code in Java. The 1.9 release contains new leaps of generations to worlds. The entire system of generating structures is getting rewritten. This allows for those modders that you talk about that get headaches from security updates to easily add their own structures and such. If you watched day two of Minecon and this Link Removed, you would understand.
d.) COMPANIES BUYING OTHER COMPANIES DOES LITTLE TO NOTHING. Thank you for understanding that, unlike others.

Lol. anyone who thinks minecraft is dying, doesn't know what he is talking about.
Not only that it's still going incredibly strong, it's still the most popular video game of this time.

yay a nerd (non-sarcastic, not trying to be mean)
From that chat, it seems that Minecraft is most popular in Russia, and the more popular in Utah then any other US state!

i faintly remember a topic similarly titled appearing in the old forums, and look how far minecraft has come since then.
