Hi all, I'm new to the forums, but not to Minecraft. I've been playing since the Xbox 360 version was released and have been working on the same survival world since. Here are the main features of my world:
High tech zombie-villager curing station (now broken with the change of IDs)
Automatic brewing station
Variable strength enchanting table
8-destination automatic rail system that connects to all major points
5 "Perfect" villagers, one of each type, all with both sets of complete trades (pre-1.8 and 1.8+)
"Genius Bar" with librarian villagers that sell every possible enchantment type at level I
9 Beacons operating at full strength, including 6 at my base
Redstone/piston doors and lighting mechanisms EVERYWHERE
Intercontinental rail system that connects all 9 maps of the medium size world from center to center, with beacon at each providing Speed I, and a platform with water elevator at the highest point above each for elytra launch
Working replica of Figaro Castle from Final Fantasy VI complete with fully functional piston engines and "submerge mode"
Replica of the Ancient Castle from the same game
Replica of the entire town of South Figaro from the same game, with fully functional shops/villagers and a fully playable "Locke's Escape" scenario
It's not my intent to brag; I've seen plenty of video on youtube that puts my little world to shame. But needless to say, I have a lot of time and love invested. Some of what I'm reading about Better Together concerns me, so any answers to these questions or heads-ups based on the in-game "technology" I'm using would be greatly appreciated!
Question 1: Is this update mandatory? Can I choose not to "upgrade" my world to Better Together, or will the update occur automatically like the previous updates?
Question 2: Will my Perfect Villagers lose their pre-1.8 trades?
Question 3: What will happen to the sizes of The Nether and The End? Will you still be able to reset them?
Question 4: Will limits on item frames and armor stands be increased or removed?
Question 5: Will my "map wall" or the maps it contains be altered in any way?
I don't know all of the answers to your questions, but here is what I can answer:
Technically, it's not a new update, it's a new version. It does not replace your current version of Minecraft. You do not have to import your worlds into the new version and you can continue to play the old version for as long as you want. The old version however will no longer receive any future updates. So when fancy new blocks, mobs, items, etc. come out, it will only be on the new version.
Limits on item frames and armor stands have been removed. You can use as many as you want. However, too many in one place could potentially cause a lot of lag.
Also, you can convert your world to the new version and it will also remain on the old version. It will just make a copy of the world into the new version.
Awesome, thanks for the reply. I've joined the beta. Unfortunately, my world crashes the game when it converts. I really hope they fix it, I've been waiting forever to put my world up on Realms.....
