While trying to think of how to keep your base/possessions safe, and the flaws of an electric fence which players could mine under or build over, I thought of creating a grid around the entire structure.
You could place a forcefield block in the middle of the area you want to protect and the block would have a range setting, maybe 5 blocks, 10 blocks, 20 blocks? It would emit a forcefield that encompassed all blocks from it in the specified range in each direction; I.E., 10 blocks up, 10 blocks down, 10 blocks left, and 10 blocks right would be impenetrable (could either just not allow you to walk through, or in carrying on with the electric fence idea that inspired this, could shock and knock you back).
In order to curb griefing, the forcefield must be placed by your own bed, and cannot cover another players bed (this protects against players entering other players houses and setting up a forcefield and locking them out of their own home. The player that creates the forcefield should also be allowed to walk through it unharmed.
Severely overpowered. What your suggesting is that there be a 40X40X40 block area completely inaccessible to other players. Neither Mojang nor 4J would even contemplate adding this unless there are some severe cutbacks to the design. Not to mention, what about locations where people share a house, or their houses are close together? That would prevent people from getting to their own houses. Also, this is more sci-fi, and doesn't fit in with Minecraft's style.
I like the idea it would work great against grievers...
But maybe something else that could be added is the Admin getting the power to set specific areas to a single player and admin aswell,
Basically just mark out an area with a special admin tool and assign the land to that player meaning no other player can do anything while in there so even if they did manage to get over your fence(they can't go underneath because it would go down for a select number of blocks aswell.)they wouldn't be able to take/destroy/place anything while inside.
But maybe allow players set to moderators (very trusted players) to access the area because most good taste jokes are in a players home.
Everybody enjoys a good non destructive practical joke.

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.

That is what I'm suggesting, yes.
That is also why I ended my suggestion with 'Thoughts? Opinions?,' because I wanted additional input.
I'm not a developer nor a designer, but I made a suggestion which I believe to be reasonable; yet I'm not going to sit here and contemplate every single if/and/but/when scenario. I put it out there for others to express their opinion or improvements upon.
While 40x40 does sound overpowered, do you have a suggestion or do you like to just come in and let everyone know they're wrong?

If you want information about the game but don't wanna click either links or you just want more information. then go to my profile Bio, Or send me a message.
This is the sort of thing I would prefer to see added.
I'm not sure what the admin tool could be or if it would even be possible on the Xbox 360 but having the admin being able to assign entire areas(or chunks) to players would be a great way to prevent griefing and theft.
I know you can be selective of who joins your world but you you will never know what someone is like if you have only recently become friends on Xbox Live!
My friends just steal my stuff anyway.
I think a guy that knows you that is often doing BAD jokes is what happens to me mostly.
My experience of people I don't know is that they're ever so careful as to what they do on another's world.
Where as if they started public rentable servers the admin tool would really be needed, because in my mind people walking past your home will not think of what pain they're giving to the owner of the home when they steal some iron a few diamonds and the paintings off your wall.

Ugly and can be mined.
