Well, we've received a slight glance at the plastic texture pack, and will receive more tomorrow along with the Natural texture pack, and by what we've seen, it's definitely more of a creative mode texture pack, it's basically 8x8 as it looks like each block is a single color. I can't really post a picture but the header on 4J's twitter is the only picture we have.
But who am I to judge something until we have it???
Just my 2cents.

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
I don't get what's with people always classifying the packs as "creative" vs. "survival." It makes no sense. Survival mode can be played with any texture pack because the worlds generated still have all the resources they normally would have... they just may look different. If one plays a texture pack in survival mode, they will eventually learn to recognize all the blocks again as they play... just the same as they learned to recognize them the first time they played Minecraft... and it really doesn't take all that long. One also learns to mix and match different materials so that builds look good in that texture pack. The only thing may be that the builds may not look quite so good without that particular texture pack; but I'd hate to limit the design of all texture packs towards having to look good in all other texture packs. That would defeat the entire point of having different texture packs.

No need to get your panties in a bunch. How can you say it makes no sense when you know exactly what they mean when they refer to a texture pack as being a "creative" or "survival" pack? All they're doing is giving them a lazy label to indicate that there is no learning curve to the new textures. You can look at the blocks and know their exact purpose.

Actually, that's exactly what a texture pack is for... giving a specific item a new look and not a new function or purpose. I'd much rather they refer to the ME textures as a resource pack instead of a texture pack, simply because that would imply to me that blocks would not equal their ID... and thus the relearning that you crave.

No need to get your panties in a bunch and go on a personalized attack. It still makes no sense to me. I can play survival quite fine using the ME Mash-Up pack (which was labelled a "creative only" texture pack by most people on this board).
I would say we really shouldn't be calling the ME Mash-Up pack as either a texture pack or a resource pack. It's neither... it's a mash-up. The PC changed from using the term "texture pack" to "resource pack" when they changed how the game supports texture packs. This meant the texture packs written for the old support system would not work well unless the author of the pack made some technical changes. The Xbox is probably implementing the old support system that the PC implemented in version 1.2X and not the new one they put in in version 1.6X. So, technically, we won't be getting resource packs until/if we get up to the equivalent of PC version 1.6X. (Ref: Wiki on both Texture Packs and Resource Packs). (ETA: Even in the ME Mash-Up the blocks still behave relative to their same IDs. Pumpkins can still be farmed using the same techniques and made into jack-o-lanterns that give off light that repels mobs, etc. They just don't look the same as they do in vanilla. It will work the same way in this texture or any other texture pack - the program block IDs will stay the same, the way they look will change.)
The upcoming texture pack, therefore, is a Texture Pack. Even though people are also labelling it a "creative use" pack, I'll still be able to survive using it as well because the resources in the worlds are still there. Survival, in fact, will be easier since I'll already recognize the blocks right off. The build use of any "texture" change is "creative"... so, by your reasoning there would never be any "survival" texture packs... so why bother to classify them anything at all?
I totally get the fact that some people may not like certain textures for Survival. The mass Effect textures make it super easy to spot ore which could be a drag for those looking for more of a challenge. Personally, this doesn't bug me in survival one bit after actually having spent some time playing a survival map with said texture.

My referring to the ME texture pack a "resource pack" has no correlation with the PC texture pack renaming, and was more of a descriptive name of the texture's function... as it changed the resource blocks that were available to us to build with... and had no correlation to the actual ID of the block.

As I added above, the blocks in the ME pack carry the same block IDs and behave the same way as they always have... they just look different. The correlation to their block IDs in the programming is still there. I get that you want to use "resource pack" in a different way than the PC does... but don't you think that just adds to the confusion since the PC uses the term in such a specific way?
I totally get the some people don't like the textures in the ME pack. Some don't like them in survival mode and some don't like them in creative mode either. I'm OK with that. What has me confused is that the same people are now calling this upcoming pack also a "creative use" pack where the blocks will likely largely look like the vanilla ones. So, if packs where the blocks radically change are for creative use only and packs where they don't change all the much are also creative use only, what then would qualify as a "survival use" pack? I'm thinking it's really just a way of people saying that other people should play survival in vanilla only.

The look does not equal the functionality with the ME pack. Colored wool looks nothing like they should in the ME pack... as do many others. Resource pack is only confusing to those that play PC Minecraft, hell even then I think people still prefer to use texture pack for simply reskinning blocks/items.

OP is incorrectly calling the plastic pack a "creative use" pack. It's nothing like the ME pack where we have to relearn blocks. The looks match their function.
It's a oCd texture pack, and I used it on PC for higher frames. Eventually, the look grew on to me and it's one of my PC Favorites. This looks like one to pick up.
Just took a look at the screen shots for the Plastic TP and must say, GOOD JOB 4J!!!:) The mobs have been included in what appears to be a very clean and simplified style of the original. Unlike the MEMP, you can identify all the blocks! IMO, this is a WINNER. There's hope for the future after all.

I wonder if MCXBLA will also get an associated frame rate bump (or, more appropriately, a multiplayer lag reduction).
One thing everyone should remember... You can't please everyone.
When I started playing Minecraft on the PC a few years ago, I probably went through hundreds of texture packs until I found one I liked enough to use. Since 4J can only make so many texture packs at a time, there are bound to be texture packs some people will love and that others will hate. This is not Burger King. You cannot have it your way.

But I thought the next Mash Up pack was going to be the one suggested the most my the community? Like a skyrim one.

It is, but some people still aren't going to love it. Some people are probably like "Uhh Skyrim? Whyy WAHH I never played this crap game blahh" I love Skyrim, so it won't bother me, but Mustache_Guy again has a point.
Its definately different. Wouldn't be my first choice of TPs but it looks cool enough to try out at least, and I'd use this in general play much sooner than the Mass Effect one. The reason I've called the ME mash up a "creative only" pack is because, for me, that's exactly what it is. Blocks don't look like what they are so in general play they don't make sense to me. This Plastic pack may be simplistic but sheep will drop wool, diamond ore looks like diamond ore, etc.
I still see no reason why this or any other texture pack or mash-up pack shouldn't be perfectly playable in both creative and survival mode. Whether you will want to or not just boils down to personal tastes - Some people will like the textures and some people won't nomatter what they make. However, no one is forcing anyone else to buy the DLC[ so if someone doesn't like what they see, they probably just shouldn't buy it and wait for one they like to get released.
(For information on the natural appearance of diamond ores, may I suggest googling "natural black diamonds." They are also known as carbonados. The diamond ore in the Mass Effect Mash-Up pack actually does a great job in replicating this IRL look. The vanilla diamond ore really looks nothing like natural diamond ore. (JIMO, of course)

That texture pack is supposed to resemble the box art of the game. It might be able to be seen more clearly in the retail disc.
