I am trying to breed more wolves. I have twelve so far. I tried breeding another one and it didn't give anything. They went into love mode and nothing else happened. I killed one and tried breeding and it did the same thing? suggestions?
There is a limit to everything in Minecraft. There is a limit to how many passive and hostile mobs there can be. There is also a limit to how many items can be dropped on the ground at once.
People have to start understanding that the system only has 512MB of RAM to work with. It can and will eventually run out of space. So they put limits on things. The drop limit is 200 items, but I am unsure if anyone has discovered the actual mob limit yet.
I have had as many as 24 mixed animals without any problems but them finding holes in my fences. I've had up to 12 of any individual mob type. I wonder if there is a limit of 12 per animal type. Need to go and test it.

Not 12. I've had about 50 pigs in one pen before, with other mobs in other pens.
This would be a heck of a lot easier to find out if we had spawn eggs. (Hint, hint!)
However, I can test it with chicken eggs. I might be able to find one about that.
That's pretty difinitve. Now it just remains to test if that applies to the other animals too. I'll try some tests of my own tommorrow. I'm really interested to find this stuff out.
I maintain a limited farm. I don't care fore sheep since they don't regrow wool yet, it seems the chicken limit is 16, I have only 12 cows since they take up so much space and only 8 pigs since they don't yield many chops when slaughtered. What I havent been able to determine is the limits per chunk. These numbers are strickly from my farm. I breed all the couples, then slaughter half the adults. Keeps neat numbers and good for pens only 7x5

Don't forget there is also a world limit to mobs, not just chunk limits.
Something weird is going on. I found one random chicken wandering around after all of that. So I went back and recounted my animals. I now have:
Pigs = 13
Cows = 8
Sheep = 56
Making 57 animals plus one random chicken. I'm sure I miscounted before and must have had 77 before the chicken spawned because I still can't breed any new pigs, cows or sheep. I have however spawned 6 more chickens with eggs and bred another making 8 chickens. I'm thinking that wolves and chickens aren't affected because you breed them by something else besides wheat but that's just a guess.

Yes, there is a spawning and breeding limit but the limit is breakable atleast for breeding! The limit might be 12 but I have about 24 cats!

As it turns out, after, maybe 500 eggs, I ended up with 16 chickens.
Pigs = 12
Cows = 8
Sheep = 58 (Various Colors, I have the breakdown if anyone actually wants it.)
After 78 all animals stopped spawning and I can no longer breed new ones of any type. Anyone else trying to comfirm my numbers would be welcome.
I'm going to go try to get the sounds of sheep out of my brain now.
