Hi all, iv been playin minecraft for a few weeks now so im still generally new to it all. Me and my mate have been creating some worlds on survival and thanks to the update on creative now, so my question is, i created the worlds and my mate joins in to them, but can he play on them when im not online, coz iv heared about seeds, but i dont know where you can type them in on xbo if you can atall :s
Anyone got any pointers on how i can do it if i can ?
Like the above user said, when you start a new world, underneath "world name" you will see "seed for the world generator". Enter anything you like into there. & your friend cannot enter your world unless you are online on that world. Seeds only generate a specific world.
When you start a new world the game should ask you if you want to use a seed.
Let me clarify: seeds are inputs you use (numbers and letters) when creating a world to help decide what the world looks like, its features, biomes, ect. When you create a world, you will see "world name" and "map seed". you can put anything into the mapseed you want, and it converts it into a number that it uses to create the world. if you leave it blank, it comes up with a random seed.
But to anwser you question, no, the worlds you make, only you can use them. imagine it like a match on MW3, or anyother shooter game. when you start it, others can join, but the moment you leave, its gone until you come back. bad example? maybe, but you get the point.
EDIT: beat me to it boxanata.
on a more hopeful note, maybe eventually we will have the ability to host servers (similar to battlefield 3, or pc?)
Are you on some serious drug mate? The above user specifically said 'as the above user' (me) 'said' then you try and correct me with something completely irrelevent?
**** me mate these forums are getting worse.
can you not read time? I posted mine right after boxanata. and fine, want the short version? map seeds are numbers and letters you put into the box asking for a map seed (or not) that creates the world based off it. I was trying to explain what a seed is, since it was obvious he didn't know what it was.

Seeds will not help with what you are asking, they only generate the enviornment when creating a NEW world. They are not synchronized universal loaders or anything like that.
In order for HIM to play on the world, YOU have to be online in Minecraft, and have the particular world loaded. I do this occasionally so my friends can play in my world, and when I do I'll go and stand next to my bed in my shelter and face the wall, showing that I am not actually playing.
There is a way you can copy your map file from your HD and give it to him, so he'd be able to load it onto his own Xbox and play it while you're offline, but I don't recommend this as it is fairly complicated. Also if you did this, any work he does to the map saved on his system will not 'sync' with the instance of the map saved on your system.
If you really want him to be able to play the map while you are away, leave your world loaded, put your character in a safe place, and leave your xbox on. Make sure to uncheck "Invite Only" when starting the game, otherwise if he gets "lag kicked" while you are away, he won't be able to get back in! Also be sure your friends list is free of griefers!
*EDIT* - Also make sure your xbox has "Auto Off" disabled. (Xbox Dashboard -> Settings -> System -> Console Settings -> Startup and Shutdown -> Auto Off -> Disable)

oh, a good thing about the update, is you can make your friend a moderater, and he'll be able to kick any griefers

Actually
SharpenedPata was the first person to answer the OP's actual question. His question was could his friend play on his maps without him being there and then you answered:
When you start a new world the game should ask you if you want to use a seed.
Which is irrelevant to the OP and not what he was asking. Please make sure you fully understand questions before you spout off some buffoonery and please please please don't try to insult someone clearly more intelligent than you. It'll make the world a better place. ;-)
Making a new account won't help you. I'm right, you're wrong, get over it.
What in the world are you talking about?? Odlenator is exactly right with what he is saying. Your responses are coming out of left field and not really ansering anything that the OP is asking about.

1, I didnt make a new profile. why would i do that? i like this one. 2, we were all saying the same thing, i was saying it in a way that a person NEW TO MINECRAFT that DOESNT know what a seed is would understand. Translation: you said, seeds arent what you want. (equvilent to), i said, seeds arent what you want AND this is what they are and do.
3, being a isnt helping anyone.
4, if you would pay attention, you would notice, i dont write like that and he's being a -ova lot politer to you than i am.
ok, im good now.
and also, you can turn pvp off so griefers wont kill you, and turn invisible, so they cant even see you.
OP: "but i dont know where you can type them in on xbo if you can atall :s"
Me: "When you start a new world the game should ask you if you want to use a seed."
Person Agreeing with me: "Like the above user said, when you start a new world, underneath "world name" you will see "seed for the world generator". Enter anything you like into there. & your friend cannot enter your world unless you are online on that world. Seeds only generate a specific world.
Irrelevent Post: "Let me clarify: seeds are inputs you use (numbers and letters) when creating a world to help decide what the world looks like, its features, biomes, ect."
/argument. Leave it, yeah?
*facepalm*
OP thought a seed was what he needed. I'm guessing he assumed a seed generated a world in the state it was last saved in. I've actually seen several people new to the game that thought this way. What he was looking for was a way for him and his friend to both be able to alter the same world, whether or not the original host was online.
The only reason he cared about a generation seed was because he thought it might solve his problem. But, it won't, therefore your answer (while true) doesn't serve the true purpose here. It's just an extra bit of information.

But before that, it will say something like "Press Start to Play"
Oh, this probably wasnt at all helpful either, my bad guys.
