I've been playing MC since it hit the 360 a few years back and am looking for a stable, reliable, and mature group of players to hang with online in a new survival world. I'm 37 years old, so not looking for abnoxious people, griefing, or reckless PvP. I'm hoping for 21+ age range but am willing to give younger kids a shot as long as there's room and you're pretty chill and mature for your age.
Note: The success of this server depends on adherence to the rules! If you don't like rules and/or don't like reading, stop now and go find another server.
Here's the game plan...
PvP & Griefing: This server requires some adherence to rules and morality. If you're here solely to screw with players and exploit weaknesses, get lost. Yggdrasil allows PvP in certain zones only--unclaimed territories and claims flagged as "hostile". In such territories, you're allowed to kill and be killed by other players within reason. PvP is not synonymous with the theft, modification or destruction of another player's property!
Should your victim take off running at the sight of your manly prowess, give chase for a bit but disengage if catching him seems unlikely. If you manage to kill another player, good for you! Take his stuff and call it a day. If you come back for seconds or thirds, play cat-and-mouse, or otherwise begin to prey upon the slain hero before he has a chance to get back up to speed... You're pushing into griefing territory. Use good judgement and be chivalrous.
You are allowed to set traps on your own claim, but setting traps on anothers' claim will also be considered griefing. Any complaints of griefing will receive a warning or two, followed by banishment if it continues. I'm aware that griefing is a relative concept, so will be taken on a case-by-case basis. I trust you all have your own moral compass. "Do unto others" type thing...
The Wall of Maps: In the central region (default spawn), I've built a "Wall of Maps" that will be filled in as the players settle the world. As a settler new to Yggdrasil, you'll want to first visit the Wall to see which territories have and haven't been claimed as well as which are PvP (hostile) and non-PvP (peaceful) so you don't get in over your head early-game.
You may pick any unclaimed map off the wall by popping it out of its frame and adding your gamer tag and "surveying" to the sign below it. Announce to the group that you've begun a survey via coordinates (A-E, North to South; 1-5, East to West) and head out to the location to begin scouting! All regions being surveyed are peaceful until claimed or returned.
If you decide you like the region you chose, explore the map fully and then return it to the same frame at the Wall once you've filled-out your backup map. Then, change the sign's status (below your gamer tag) from "surveying" to "peaceful" (no PvP) or "hostile" (PvP) to indicate the claim and head back out to begin developing on your new land!
Note: You may only change PvP status on your claims once per-session at the session start, and you must tell the admin about the change so he can broadcast it to all players.
If you decide that you don't like your new region, bring the map back to the Wall, re-seat it, reset the associated sign (clear it) and pick a new unclaimed map. Rinse and repeat.
All players are encouraged to visit the Wall frequently to trade maps with claims they haven't collected yet (pop one off the wall, fill in your own blank map, and re-post to the item frame) as well as to decide on their next claim. The first claim is free, but subsequent claims will cost ya in emeralds (8, 16, 32, 64...). In order to keep suburban sprawl to a minimum, please be courteous to others and only start a new claim once you've spent a good bit of time developing it. Land-grabs, while technically legal, will be generally frowned upon as amoral activity.
Everything on your claim is 100% yours. Nobody else is allowed to build or mine on your claim without your express permission. Should you discover another players' junk on your claim, it's yours. You probably want to post name tags (signs) on your larger structures so that passers-by know who they're messin' with. If another player griefs your region, PvP or non, report him immediately.
Unclaimed regions not being surveyed are hostile zones with open PvP. Building structures in neutral territories is not advised as any other player can come dismantle them and/or kill you for fun and profit. What's more, if the region gets claimed by a settler everything on it becomes property of the new owner. Please do not mine or otherwise significantly alter unclaimed territories! Unclaimed territories need to remain valuable for potential settlement.
When travelling through someone else's claim or an unclaimed region:
DO NOT establish mines
DO NOT destroy, dismantle, or loot natural structures
If you stumble across natural resources and want to take seeds for your own farms, do so sparingly! Try and embrace a "live and let live" philosophy when passing through unclaimed territory, as if it were a state park or protected wilderness area.
The Nether: The nether will be a 100% shared, co-op resource for everyone to utilize. Glowstone and netherwart are obviously limited resources, so please only take what you're planning on using for your builds. Fast-travel portals are encouraged (I'll make one for the central map, near the wall) but please be careful in there! I don't want the nether to get obliterated by ghasts. Use cobblestone and be stealthy.
PvP is prohibited in the Nether.
Spawners: Light 'em all up but try not to destroy them. Mob traps are fine, but let's try and not build them where they'll constantly be active (save system resources) and try to advertise and share them via your claim sign (mob type and coordinates).
Animal Farming: You can own 1 horse and 1 mule, but animal farms are not allowed (system resource hogs). Go foraging if you want animal stuffs.
Dungeon Expeditions: I'd love it if all our players were willing to step up and group explore/clear these as a team. Even 2-3 people would be cool. When you find spawners, note the coordinates and mob type and light them up! Finders keepers is the rule for any goodies you find in chests, and I leave it up to the explorers to argue over stuff they find together at the same time. The "expedition" option is, of course, completely optional but makes things more fun.
Professions: If you want to specialize in a trade or open a shop, go for it! Creativity is highly encouraged and there are no standard pricing for items in Yggdrasil. Create your own currency if you want, but we'll need to talk off-line if you want to tie it to Bits (see below). You'll probably want to set up shop in a peaceful zone if you want to keep your customers If your claim is hostile but you want to open a shop, perhaps another settler will lease you some land.
Currency & Special Items: The official Yggdrasil currency comes in the form of precious ore (in order of value, least to most): iron, gold, emerald, and diamond. As the admin, before every game I'll generate some snazzy items that will be available for purchase at some point in the middle of each session. There's an auction house in the central map by the Wall for these events. Auctions encourage people to get together at least once a game and socialize, trade, etc. The opening bid for most items will be equivalent to its most valuable components (IE. An enchanted diamond pick would start at 3 diamonds). From there, you may bid additional iron ingots, gold ingots, emeralds and diamonds in attempt at securing the item.
All-in-all, these are some ideas I've got rolling around in my head. I'd like to do 2x a week, Saturday 10 AM and Wednesday 4 PM Pacific time and will boot this up once I have enough people to fill a game (8). I will be playing both the role of a settler as well as admin, but will not allow myself any special abilities (flying, invisibility, etc.) nor give myself any advantage in terms of starting resources. We all start off on the same foot.
Now that you've read the rules...
If your'e interested in joining, post a reply to this thread with your name, age, location, and gamertag. If you have more ideas or need clarification for the ones above, let's talk! I'm all for making things awesome. Remember: preferred age is 21+, preferred location is US-Pacific, no griefing or lawless PvP, co-op strongly encouraged!
