Some of you might disagree, but please hear me out. Personally I feel that the new Realms service is ripping us off. As exited as we all are for online multiplayer, the Realms service isnt designed to give us the best possible experience of Minecraft Pocket Edition. The Realms service is designed to make money for Mojang above anything else. We are told the main focus of the Realms service is to give an easier way for players to set up online games without any hassle, when in fact, it is designed to earn more money for the already very wealthy Mojang. While I'm all for the Mojang staff earning money, I disagree with it here because it comes at the players(your) expense. Realms will not support plugins. It will only be Vanilla. What does this mean: No Plugins No factions No Automated Hunger Games No World Edit No McMMo No Admin Controls No Factions No Economy No permissions No Multiverse Mojang has already created the server, They simply havent made it publicly available so that anyone who wants to play online must be using a server that makes them more money. Instead we miss out on all of these functions, and literally thousands more. If Mojangs Primary concern was about the user experience instead of money, dont you think they would have done something as simple as giving us the option to run the servers from our own machines?
Well, not totally. MC realms has been brought up due to public demand. And if in case you might not know, online servers are not free. They need to somehow pass on the burden of paying this feature for users that is so eager to host their own servers - take note that the one who would like to host is the only one who needs to pay, the rest of the players can join for free. I just hope they don't charge ridiculously high for the service. I guess in a week or so, we would know.

I do appreciate that only those hosting are charged, but we are losing so many opportunities for players because they are not releasing the server jar alongside the realms service
Are you out of your mind? the fact that mojang has brought the things they already have to an app is incredible. MCPE has gone so much further then what was expected. The fact that they are adding servers is incredible and also i might add, something that not even xbox has yet! Also you basically think its selfish of them to do this for money? if they did this for free they would be losing money which even though they are "Extremely Wealth" is never a good thing. From what it looks like the realms update is going to be great. We can finally play on a server on our ipods/phones/pads. This is something that people have been waiting for for a long time. The fact that youre complaining about it is insane.

Mojang is holding back n features that would make the game better for the sake of money.
I think I have a right to complain if there is room for improvment, and there is.
I think they have a ight to earn money, but it shouldnt be at the games expense.
I doubt notch would have ever done that, but he is uninvolved in mc now, and its like he is almost unaware of any mcpe development.
Xbox players have to deal with the same thing and you don't see them complain about it.
they do complain about it,
but there problem is that they are held back by Microsofts usage rights, which prevent modifications and unauthorised server hosting.
The devs are allowed to release servers for pocket edition, however are not allowed on the xbox
Keep in mind that Mojang is a business and businesses are designed to make money. In order to do this Mojang makes a great came and has to maintain a fan-base but if it does not make money there is not reason for it to exist. I personally think it makes perfect sense for them to charge for a feature which costs them capitol to set up and comes with a monthly charge to them to keep running. If realms get popular Mojang might be able to afford to reduce their prices. Just try to keep in mind that they have to make money and they are only doing the logical choice as a business entity.
It'd be a big breakthrough for non jailbreakers and people who don't root their Droids. Though, there is that one app in the app store that does a good job with servers.
Also, Mojang won't and hasn't made any sort of plug-in.
Those are all made by the community, with Bukkit and all that.
With Realms, Mojang is simply providing the opportunity for players to simply play with their friends, they aren't looking to provide massive faction servers.
You're going to have to look at the other community server software if you are not happy with realms.
any problems caused by realms will be worked around eventually, I mean, look at mods, our current servers, texture packs. At one point we thought Minecraft PE was a dead end, but the community came together and made it better. If realms is bad we'll rough it out together

This is one of the best ways I've seen it said. The MCPE community is very motivated, I'm sure if there are any problems, we could get through it.
You never know, they could hire more PE devs.
Plus, we've already cracked some of the code.
Nobody has made the plugins for the PE servers.
What I do hope for, is if the "Minecraft API" will be cross-platform, so the community would make the plug-ins. Then we could manage our servers online, (mods, plugins, admins) through a terminal on a web browser.
They only have a few developers on it.
only 1 works full-time on it (Johan) Aron, Jens, and that other guy work either on Scrolls, or on PC minecraft.
They are making the game from scratch, PCMC is Java, while MCPE is C++ (Lack of java support on iOS) so, they have to make everything new.
If you don't want to use MC Realms, you don't have to, nobody really cares.
Probably mojang will allow other companies to host.
I agree!Realms cost money which is so unfair. They should be free. Why should I waste money just on Realms and also it's a one month subscription.I have a feeling that Mojang wants more money.I would just wait for a normal online multiplayer to come.

why?
- cloud hosting is not free (takes hundreds of dollars for atleast 100 servers)
- they have a reasonable price
- plug-ins are not yet ready
stay with your idea.
i have the rights for my own
