I have played all of the Pokemon games. Then, I downloaded and played all of the Pokemon Adventure maps I could find. Each of these maps was based on a game, and left me a bit unsatisfied. I thirsted for a new storyline, new characters, a new world full of exciting gyms and dungeons.
Solution 1: Wait for a new Pokemon game to come out, buy it.
Solution 2: Make an adventure map of my own.
Obviously I went with Solution #2. This is my first adventure map, but I'm no stranger to planning, planning, planning, then doing. This took me about four hours to plan, drawing out a detailed map, as well as maps for each city, gym, and dungeon! I've completed the first two cities, and have the storyline laid out. This map is not based on other Pokemon games, aside from the obvious! The storyline is my own creation.
I think the dungeons/gyms could be a mixture of parkour, puzzles, and fighting, with increasing intensity.
I have planned out encounters with a rival, as well as a Team Rocket-esque group of bad guys!
It's pretty dialogue-reliant, with people in towns giving you pointers on where to go.
I have also (against all advice) made it somewhat reliant on the Pixelmon mod, mainly because this mod is fantastic, and is what truly inspired me to start this map. You can play the map without the mod, but some details (such as fossils, pc's in pokecenters, and poke items in the marts) will be missing.
So for now, what I'm interested in is your thoughts, as players of Minecraft who obviously have some interest in adventure maps. If you've played Pokemon, that's even better, but it's not necessary. I will be keeping this thread updated with WIP shots and new info as it comes. If I need any builders or beta testers, I'll put out applications here!
I'm currently trying to make the landscape look more pokemon-esque - Avanti is really proving useful for this. I've got a 'Crater' area, 'Cave' area, and a 'Lake' area planned out, but are there any other features you'd like to see in a pokemon adventure map? I'm considering a mountain/volcano, but would that be overkill? It doesn't really contribute to my storyline at all, and just feels like I'm trying to crunch too many things into the game... suggestions?
I'd really appreciate some ideas! I know that pokemon seems worn out and lame to a majority of you, but I'm trying to break through that stereotype with this map. It would help if I knew what people would like to see done differently!
