I might end up changing the cobble to a collection of small stones, or maybe really small bricks. Probably the bricks. I have other priorities atm though, namely whatever random texture I think I can do in 20 minutes while something loads or generates or downloads.
Inconsistencies in theme generally happen when I get a brilliant new idea for how to do the stone tiles and then end up having to redo all the other stone stuff so they don't look out of date -- that's how I ended up with the current smooth stone.
I redid the colors on the stained clay by hand rather than filter, and made them tiled-ish. I'm not sure how it looks in mesas, but they look a lot better for building now.
Here's a little sandstone structure, and the cauldron which I changed a bit. I can't help but love the soft cracks in the sandstone. Is this what narcissism feels like?
Also, ignore that ugly rotated sand. I'll figure out a way to fix that.
Actually, I might be able to modify the texture to make it work a lot better.
Yeah, it is. I'm not sure if it turns off all variations though, or if they're predesignated ones that are applied to any pack. If it turns off all variations, that will be a huge pain in the duck when I start adding more variants for blocks that could use them. (little rocks in dirt, smooth stone cracks, multiple ore textures, etc.)

(Are you talking about CTM random textures, or the variations in 1.9? :P)
Maybe they could add another parameter inside of the pack.mcmeta where the author gets to pick whether "Alternate Blocks" uses Minecraft's methods (flipping the dang textures) or using the 1.8-introduced variations that the author makes.
Variations in 1.8 allow for CTM-style random textures, unless I'm hideously mistaken, ( : D ) though it requires JSON code and is harder to put together. ( : c )
I'd also like a parameter that checks whether the block was naturally generated in the world, and if it was placed by a player it could have a different look, i.e. letting me have stained clay tiles without having mesas look like they were run over by home improvement companies.

Should I post a suggestion with that ideas?

Tracking whether a block is player placed or natural may seem pretty simple. Did it spawn there? No? Player placed! But put that to thousands or millions of blocks and there starts to be an issue: Computer power.
@Crafterguy
If you want to permanently disable alternate blocks as it is in default, that just takes some json file editing. Also, they were introduced in 1.8, not 1.9.

Couldn't you store it as a boolean in the block class? (and choose the texture based on that when it renders)
I'd think a much easier way to do it is just a datatag that's only present in blocks the player DID place, and is added when they place it.
Yeah, I suppose so. Though, in the end, having different textures for that almost ends up just substituting for more blocks, at the sacrifice of the natural variants.
I think a better solution is metadata and more blocks. Also, vanilla metadata usage. Like, making it work without using commands. (Not that you can use metadata now anyway, thanks Mojang.)
I saw a suggestion for glazed clay a while ago that I liked. I can't help but wonder why Mojang adds overall so few features per update, at least if you compare their access to their own code and the amount of work it takes to add some of these features that I imagine are rather simple compared to some of the newer much fancier stuff to what modders can do in a similar period of time. (though that's not quite a fair comparison and has been made a lot before)
Anyways this is way off topic. Back to other stuff!
Have a semi-big update where I changed a whole bunch of tiny little color things around on a bunch of textures and then forgot which ones I had modified, so instead have this image of the obsidian, enchanting table, and a couple of the ore blocks I added a bit more to. Also I redid the cobblestone again.
The iron ore has more contrast now. I still want to redo all the ores, and the stone still doesn't look good enough to me. I'm also trying to lean a bit more towards the 'cartoonish' side of the pack.
Edit:
Oh, and if anybody's interested in anything else Minecraft-related I've been doing I would suggest you go look at the Mine Little Pony mod's latest pages. I developed a new model for it, and some others are working on implementing it right now.
I modified the fire's first frame; it flows smoother now.
And I redid the glowstone, the redstone, the iron ore, and the coal ore. I also did the quartz! It's pearl-white-ish. Good for marble, (maybe?) plating, or cloud structures.
I'm messing around with proper biome coloring. This is also the main area of my testing world; you can see a lot of the facades and block setups from both earlier images and images from my Discovery pack.
I also made a new sand texture that's designed to work with alternating blocks. It looks kind of weird, though. Comparison image:
I cannot figure out the wood, because I keep redoing it and changing it.
This is all the current wood. I redrew the dark oak wood and the ordinary wood, and made a door for it, and surprise the door doesn't really match the wood. I think all the wood is too red, not yellowish enough, and might need either more or less saturation. I can't decide. I'll probably sample the default wood color from the vanilla planks and create a new palette off of that.
So I'm going to keep working on these. I want the planks to simultaneously be smoother, and more defined. I'll probably go with a low-contrast palette like the birch planks, which I still love and haven't changed yet. I need some feedback here; what do you people think would be better?
Wow, looks pretty good, however.
The cobble(?) doesn't quite match the stone brick imo but that could be smooth stone if so same applies. P:

I'm a pixel artist who makes pixel things and maps! I also do line art occasionally.
I have two work in progress resource packs!
This is the second one!
And of course, by "work-in-progress" I mean "will never, ever be completed".

I think that's the "Alternate Blocks" option in the video settings
But that would be nice if they could work better with it on

I'm experimenting with the stone brick stuff. Also cobblestone.
And I redid the stone as an experiment. I'm not sure I"m happy with this, it's a bit low on saturation.

All the ores!
I'll increase their contrast later.
Also, the metal blocks. I'll also increase the contrast of some of these, and the redstone is a placeholder right now.
