Please don't redistribute this pack or release any part of it to the public.
If you like this pack don't ask me if you can use it, but suggest people to use it together with your own pack, that's the whole point of format changes Mojang introduced months ago.
If you want to let people know of this pack do it by posting a link to this forum thread or the Curseforge page so I get credit and downloads.
That's it. I just ask you to be kind and respect my hard work and dedication.
To get all this pack has to offer you need to patch your game with MCPatcher or mod it with Optifine.
If you don't you won't see any difference.
In order to use it, put the pack in your /resourcepacks folder, start the game, go to the resource packs menu and move PR Luminance on top of all other packs you're using (if any).
Be sure you have your "Custom colors" video setting in Optifine set on, otherwise it won't use the light maps.
Then make sure your "Brightness" video setting is Moody (or at least no higher than 30%) otherwise the game won't even render shadows dark enough to be visible; this is how it works, there's nothing I can do about it. I don't know how this works with actual shaders, YMMV.
This pack includes a total of 3 different versions so you can pick the one that fits you better; open the pack with an archive manager, and follow the instructions in the READ ME.txt file.
The included packs are:
Default: natural lights and shading, including reddish artificial lights and dimmer nights/shadows. These are the effects you get by just using the pack as it is.
Light: as Default but only affects sun/moon lighting and shading, artificial lights stay white as in vanilla.
Full: changes everything including how Night Vision potion works (blueish lighting, less visibility under the sun) and special effects to the Nether (everything is reddish) and the End dimensions (very dark, even lights are dimmer). This is the version you get in regular Pixel Reality.
A lot of people was asking me to release the lighting effects from my Pixel Reality resource pack as a standalone pack in order to use vanilla textures or other packs instead of PR. This pack just does that: lighting only, all other textures are untouched.
Basically this pack creates a nice balance between sunlight, artificial light and shadow to make everything look more realistic; if your machine can't run shaders, this pack is the best alternative out there.
If you don't like torch lights to be reddish or think Minecraft nights and alternative dimensions could be more challenging you may want to try 2 alternative versions of the light maps included in the main pack; check "Installation" above.
Still the best lightmaps out of any pack I've tried, you really outdid yourself with it!
Yes, it actually was quite a difficult task to accomplish mainly because of the usual lack of proper documentation by Mojang.
Nice to see it get its own thread too, I'm very surprised this isn't more popular than it is. Keep up the great work!
Thanks a lot. Splitting the original thread was needed a lot of time ago because most people just couldn't realize it was available as an addon since it was buried under tons of other stuff. I'm so lazy sometimes...
PS: The end with the 'full' variant is terrifying!
Glad to hear that because it's (obviously) on purpose: I needed to make the End more peculiar than it is in vanilla and especially to be more challenging so I took inspiration from one of the last levels of the old Silent Hill that used to scare the crap out of me, also to counterbalance the fact that Night Vision is useless in the Nether (funny how you can tweak gameplay just by designing graphics).
Love this so much, My laptop is 9 years old, Can hardly run minecraft, with shaders, My laptop would probally die, Thanks for making this, I get no lag drop

I Respect Mojang's choice, I can't wait to see what Microsoft do with Minecraft
yes it is, ir is just a VERY nice light map, will work on any version that supports resource packs (1.6+)
I just tried to use it, and I'm sad to say that the yellow-ish light from torches doesn't show up. Not sure about the rest of the features, because I didn't play for very long with a broken lightpack. Does it work for you? D:

Yes it works for me, it could be your graphics card

I'm just wondering, why did this only work when I used it for 1.6.4? i had it working for a while and it doesn't work any more. I'm up-to-date with 1.8.1 optifine, and I'v re-downloaded the pack multiple times. I'v gone into the alternatives an used both of them with no deference to my game. My smooth lighting is on maximum, my brightness varies, but I keep it around moody when trying to get this resource pack to work.
Beautiful work. The "full" lighting is a little too much for me at night (I like to SEE, regardless of realism), but default is wonderful for me. Layered with a little bit of bloom is creates exactly the sort of game I want without unnecessary shaders everywhere.

I'm almost 100% positive that this have been suggested before but i'll suggest it again anyways
Really love this add-on. It makes everything more realistic, although the full PR pack is very dark. The Bloom lighting add-on goes really well with PR as well.
I wish I would but it's impossible because the game can only display one single color for any source of artificial light; if I made it blue, even torches, redstone and such would make a blue light.
[p]No, sorry, it's clearly explained in the first page.[/p]
I release parts of my Pixel Reality pack as addons so that people can add those effect on whatever pack they use. Just suggest people to download PR Luminance and use it on top or of your pack.[/p]
If you feel like a different version of the lightmaps is needed, let me know and I'll consider adding a new version.[/p]

Amazing! How do you even do this?! +1

You're using MCPatcher for 1.8, right?
Oops! I'm an idiot. xD
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!?!?!?!
Man, with the 2 other resource packs I use this with, my game looks gorgeous!
Love the pack! Could you please change the light from beacons and sea lanterns to be bluish?

Looks great, but can i use some shadow for my resource pack, if yes i will put your thread in my resource pack thread
