Thanks for reporting these.
I'm cleaning the code now, and implementing proper error handling and exception reporting.
All chunk data read from region files are converted to "tiles" first before any processing. These tiles are 256x256 blocks wide (16x16 chunks), causing much less memory fragmentation and CPU overhead compared to chunks.
Thanks for the info. Is there any way to have it render the 16x16 tiles, then when it hits an error, after the rest of the map is updated, go back and render the good chunks from an erroring tile set, ignoring the bad chunk? Might not be worth it I suppose, probably doesn't happen all that often.
One suggestion, the option for rendering unknown blocks, could there be a choice for it to just ignore them? Make them disappear, in other words, 100% transparent?
It would also be cool if there was an option to show or hide certain blocks, for instance, in the blocks list, select a couple of block types and only have those show, everything else be transparent. Would be handy for finding dungeons and such.
It seems Unmined doesn't like the asteroids dimension from galacticraft, it only shows a few chunks and then goes blank when the map is panned in any direction.
Galacticraft generates chunks with invalid section Ys (all zeros).
Next release of Unmined will have a workaround for this.

Weird, I wonder why they do that, is it because of the low gravity in the asteroids world? Though the moon and Mars have low gravity and it works fine there, so that's probably not it. Just for my information what are section Ys? Does it have something to do with the Y coordinate of the map?

Chunks are made of 16x16x16 sections. Y is the index of the section in range 0 to 15 (from bottom to top). Sections may be missing if empty, but there should not be duplicates.
Moon and Mars dimensions have valid Ys.

Quick question, is the 16x16x16 specific to Galacticraft?
(I thought chunks were 16x256x16 (each chunk contains the full vertical range of blocks), has that changed since 1.2? If so, the wiki in Gamepedia is horribly out of date

Thanks, sounds like they almost made something like cubic chunks, but never carried it all the way to make it infinite? If you don't know, cubic chunks is a mod that allows infinite build height from what I understand, by making chunks 16x16x16 instead of what Geethebluesky mentions above as a limited 16x256x16 section. Or maybe I just don't understand it as well as I thought I did lol.

Chunks are 16x256x16, each of them containing one or more 16x16x16 "sections" since 1.2 (see anvil file format on the wiki). Note that the file format supports world heights up to y=4095 (256 sections per chunk), not y=255 (16 sections per chunk). I can't wait for a Minecraft release with increased height limit.

I recall older versions had a "track player" option that would show the X/Z position of the player on the map, I haven't seen this function on the newer versions and really miss it since I largely use Unmined on a second monitor while playing the game for exploration purposes.

Cubic chunks is awesome. Imagine a space station mod with infinite space in each direction, or a Realistic World Gen landscape with really huge mountains. Can't wait for it.

One thing I noticed that's a bit annoying is when I have Unmined open and viewing a map that's not the overworld, say the nether or the end, then go to another program or to Minecraft, then switch back to Unmined, it unloads the map I was viewing and switches to the overworld map. I then have to go back to the map I want and let it load. It's not too bad if you only do it once in a while, but if you switch back and forth a lot to check the map then go back to the game to check something, then go back to the map, it gets tiresome. Is there any way that can be fixed?

I have already fixed the code, it will be included in next release.

Unfortunately Minecraft does not save player positions frequently enough to do a live tracking. Any ideas to solve this without modding?
Generally I do a save and then jump to UnMiNeD to check some things out.
It seems to start with my position known. I can just hit + + + + + and then look for what I want with it usually being the spot I was in when I saved.
What I wouldnt mind is a way to jump around when I see something interesting, and then jump back. I end up actually leaving the map then coming back into it again to get my central player-position.
I would be happy with a star on the map. Or a go-To key.
Actually being a really old user I was unhappy that the HOME key didnt jump me back.

Using keyboard shortcuts is a great idea. What do you think about assigning HOME key to spawn, and END key to player? (The END key is also useless now.)
I like those.
Also PageUp and PageDown might move the layers in jumps of 10.
DEL could offer to delete the map file completely once you see its garbage
and INS could offer to name change it? for when you see that it deserves to NOT be just a New World -------==

2) Also... is there docs? or any coming?
3) Is there command line options?
4) How do I use my stylesheet? Do I have to name it "default"
5) will there be a button or command parameter to switch back on forth on stylesheets?
6) other than turning everything else off in the filter could there be an easy way to view only unnatural or constructed items?

It will be back.
I will create some howto pages, but now I'm focusing on the code and adding essential features like zoom-out.
For the latest version, no. The command line version does not compile now due to major changes in the core engine. It's on the todo list.
Copy it to the Stylesheets folder. Name does not matter, extension must be ".json".
Yes, there will be settings for selecting stylesheets at world, dimension and app level.
There will be a checkbox in the filter to hide all blocks those not on the list.
