Jan 2 - Major Update a5.0
With alpha 5.0, you can...
electrocute your enemies with lightningbendingsweep up targets with sandbendingfreeze up your enemies with icebendingexplode enemies with combustion bendingreach a new level of tactical combat with buff abilitiestraverse great distances with ostrich horsesand pick your battles due to the new Power Rating & Performance mechanics! The full list of changes is available Link Removed!
a5.0 is probably the biggest update yet! It took half a year to produce, and introduces 16 new abilities total, new animals, new scrolls, new mechanics, and more!! There's a lot of newcontent for you to try out! You can download a5.0 today!!
You say players can Z, X, C, and F to switch between bending styles, but only 1 avatar? How would that work? Unless if only the avatar can use those keys. Also would it be a good idea to have players choose from a menu about what move to do? What if there is danger and only a few seconds between life or death, would choosing from a menu in that case be the best of ideas?
Idk, just expressing my concerns. Maybe it's because I don't understand what your true end plans are though and it'll work out. I've seen server plugins use items for various moves they want to do and I thought that was a very good way to go about it since pressing the number key to choose a move would be easier than choosing from a menu.
Either way, love the concept since i'm a huge fan of the Avatar series.

Well, I was thinking that each key would activate a different bending. In my mind, this would keep it simpler- one keybind for each bending. The avatar, therefore, would only have to press the correct key instead of having to cycle through each type of bending.
Only 1 avatar- true, I'm not actually quite sure myself how I want to handle this. I'm open to any advice, as I haven't been a server owner/administrator myself.
I tried to design the radial menus to make each ability quick to activate, refraining from 1 keybinding per ability(that might get a bit slow/annoying). I also wanted to avoid GUIs/menus. Those would be too slow/annoying for combat.
As for items, that has been done before, but I feel like it restricts the player's hotbar. What happens when a player is in his* mine and gets ambushed by some firebenders? With item-based abilities, he* has to switch his* inventory around just to activate an ability. I want to allow players to use their items but also their abilities, conveniently, if possible.
*or her
For now, using radial menus, you just have to press the correct Key, then move your mouse in the right direction, and release the key. While you do have to memorize keys/menu positions, I feel that it's not that bad considering you would have to memorize item positions in the hotbar anyways. Especially because there's so many possible abilities, it's hard to make a fast AND intuitive solution. (Just look at Mechwarrior online controls)
With item-based abilities, you still have to reach over the keyboard, press the number key (8 and 9 are far away from WASD) to select the correct item on your hotbar, and then right click on your mouse. And, you can only bind up to 9(?) items on the hotbar, so the avatar can only bind 9 abilities.
Due to these concerns, I decided to use radial menus. However, the radial menus are not final (and they might be removed). I appreciate and consider any feedback and suggestions people are giving. If you have any disadvantages of the radial menu, I'd like to hear them.
Oh I get it now. Sorry, for some reason I thought the radial menu was some sort of fancy term for the GUI. After googling it and seeing a few images of it, I realized that I've used it on the MMO Tera and absolutely loved it! It was so simple to use and I thought that selecting the options by slightly moving the mouse was an amazing way to go about it. So yeah, I definitely agree with your decision of not using GUI or items in the hotbar and using the radial menu instead. That's probably one of the best ways to go about selecting moves as far as I can tell, good thinking.
It seems you're very passionate about this and have decent ideas for the mod, so I can only assume that it'll be amazing.

Ah, okay. I'm glad that everyone is on the same page! If you have any more suggestions, please let me know!
Just asking, but but how powerful will Avatar State be?
I ask this because the only other Avatar mod out there has no Avatar State. xD
I'm actually not sure about all the details, but I imagine that the avatar will be able to activate abilities on a much larger scale.
i.e. it will raise a lot of their statistics. For instance, a master earthbender might be able to raise a wall 10 blocks tall and 25 blocks wide, while an avatar in the avatar state could raise the wall 15 blocks tall and 35 block wide.
For the exact numbers, I might need some feedback on balancing, and server owners might be able to configure for themselves.
As always, please tell me any suggestions. I'm glad that I am already getting so many comments!
Also, I have fixed all game-breaking bugs that prevent the avatar mod from working. If anyone really wants to preview the content so far, please give a comment, or just up-vote this post.
Keep in mind, this mod is still a bit glitchy, which is why I wouldn't be doing an "official" release.
Note; When I refer to "Minecraft 1.10", I really mean "Minecraft 1.10.2"
I've decided to stop development for Minecraft 1.7.10 and port the current code to Minecraft 1.10. Although this will probably take a week (or longer) to perform, this is necessary to prevent this mod from falling behind.
The Avatar Mod is a modern mod. It's 2016, and Minecraft 1.7 has been released 3 years ago. At this point, enough content in vanilla has changed between 1.7 and 1.10 that it becomes pressing to incorporate current vanilla content into the Avatar Mod.
Minecraft 1.7 mods will have a much harder time gaining popularity- since the modded user base for 1.7 will probably grow smaller as 1.10 mods are created, it's important for new mods to notice that and stick with the growing 1.10 userbase.
Finally, I should port the mod now before it grows too large.
The 1.10 port means that new content will be put on hold temporarily. Thank you.
Hey everyone, nice to see you again. Here is the first weekly status report of the development:
Porting to 1.10 is going along well. In fact, I just fixed all of the compile-time errors (that does not mean "fixed all bugs")! Which means, I was able to play Minecraft 1.10 with the Avatar mod.
Actually, it was my first time playing Minecraft 1.10 ever... well, that's what happens when you stay on 1.7 for to long. I spent a while experimenting with some new features, like lingering potions or dual wielding. Due to my lack of experience with 1.10, I can confidently say that I'm playing like an old geezer.
Other than that, there isn't much to say, other than that a lot of stuff has broken. Here's a lesson, kids: don't start a mod on one version of Minecraft, and then port it 2 months later! It really is a pain in the butt.
For this week's discussion, think about a server. How would you like a new Avatar to be chosen? Randomly, or nominated from other players? When would the next Avatar be chosen?
Oh... xD I totally missed that!
So there will be a dark avatar too? That would definitely be interesting! Turn this mod into a battle of GOOD against EVIL! (or... just a giant faction war... or a mercenary war...)
Kudos to you sir. This looks fantastic! I can't play around with this mod and hopefully make a server out of it!

Another week has passed already! Let's see what happened in the past 7 days in the second weekly status report...
As you know, I have been updating the mod from 1.7 to 1.10. This week, the mod is getting pretty stable, and the bugs are (mostly) negated.
The following week will see the implementation of a new earthbending ability.
Since you are probably bored, why don't you see a video of earthbending?
