I thought the name was a little strange too. This mob sounds a little too versatile. Every mob has its own little quirk or two with the dragons being center stage.
You're describing a mob that can be tamed / befriended, equipped with either sword or bow, chested, armored, at risk of starvation, and chat. Does that sum it up? Would it wear some kind of backpack or would it have to place the chest in order to battle? And then what if your inventory is full? There would have to be some way to command him to pick up the chest, like an enderman. Or he simply can't battle while he is carrying a chest. And for him to be equipped he would need to have his own inventory slots for weapons, arrows, and armor. The starvation is a mechanic that not even the dragons use. Rather instead they stop listening if you don't feed them enough. This pet shouldn't be comparable to the dragons, so no starvation. And as far as not feeding enough, it's a humanoid. The closest it may come is paying/feeding to stay within its good graces. But again it shouldn't be like the dragons. So maybe hiring it to work for you would be better. Otherwise just tame the darn thing. I'm not hot to trot on all of this, just looking at how it might be possible.
If naga existed in the mod, the reptilian humanoid kind, I'd imagine they'd be a hostile. Possibly with a weapon. A bow would make things interesting. Also the Myrmex and the Faeries will be mobs that we can trade with, so with the naga being humanoid and to give them their own little quirk perhaps there could be a way to earn their trust (or just get close enough while keeping it in a semi-aggressive state, sort of like an enderman) in order to trade with them, for some otherwise difficult to obtain items to make it worth the risk.
Edit: If we're nitpicking on names, then I agree that the name "Siren" is more appropriate for aggressive mermaids. But it doesn't bother me either way.
My idea is for a reptilian humanoid similar to the Naga's in mythology that can be allied to you perhaps by doing a quest for them to not only gain their trust but to show that allying with you isn't a suicide. Being they are joining you rather then you 'taming them', they are their own people. As such, they would need food and other things like that They might be able to carry a backpack, I figured that might be a bit much. You could give them weapons and armor to better protect them as well as potions and or splash potions(Might be an overpowered Idea for the potions.) Its not so much that you are paying them, more of giving them the supplies they need while they are helping you. If you don't they may rummage through your chests looking for food they need or abandon you.
They could be found in their own rare villages or on there own.(Villages being extremely rare and again only be able to have one or two join you. Some of which might not even want to join you and simple be there with trade or can be hired for jobs Similar to the villagers in MCA.) Again they would commonly be found in Rain Forests and rarely on beaches. Some of them that live on their own have have a chance of being hostile. Since they might have been attacked by villagers.
My entire idea behind this is an ally that isn't tamed or simply hired(As a soldier or bodyguard.), I chose the Naga because its a reptile, this idea could be expanded to other species if there are other humanoid species added.

Now I got it, this is the Pokemon I would be. And I am not just saying that because I like Mewtwo, I really am a lot like Mewtwo.

hey people! we already have a Naga, its called a Gorgon. jeez
Actually Gorgans are a cursed humans, Naga's are humanoid reptilian creatures that are born the way they are. Though Mudusa(One of the Gorgans Sisters in Mythology.) was similar to a Naga. But Naga's can come in quite an array of colors and types(Some being sea dwelling or even desert dwelling. And can range from looking like constrictors to Cobras). Most of which appear human from the waist up, with a snake like tail from the waist down.

i understand where you are going with this. i don't entirely agree with naga villages but it would be interesting to have randomly spawned nagas of different colours. they could have a ranged attack and a melee attack. their ranged attack could involve poison tip arrows and their melee could be squeezing you to death (because snakes strangle their prey). i like the idea of allying with them by doing a quest but what would the quest be? if it is so difficult to ally with a naga (getting close to one without it killing you, completing a quest for it) then the naga should offer something special to you. maybe it could guide you to a necropolis temple. whatever the quest may be it should only be possible to complete after you go to the nether and the end.
To everyone arguing about the naga/siren/gorgon thing:
Sirens are regular mermaids, who would sit on rocks and sing, and their voices would enchant sailors and make them come to them, where they would be devoured. This mod's mermaids seem to be a harmless version of sirens. Renaming this mod's nagas to sirens sort of makes sense because they're hostile mermaids, but that also leaves out their singing ability which is a siren's main thing. And also note that the words "siren" and "mermaid" are synonymous in many languages.
Nagas have many different variations in different mythologies. The Hindu nagas are half-human half-snake nature goddesses that grant fertility and inhabit bodies of water. The Buddhist nagas are like many-headed cobras that can turn into humans. There are a whole bunch of others, but I think what this mod was going for is the Philippine naga. In Philippine mythology nagas are vicious snake-like mermaids that guard treasure.
The Gorgons kind of resemble Hindu nagas in appearance, but this mod's nagas are clearly not the Hindu ones. Also in behavior they are nothing alike.
So basically, mermaids in this mod should stay mermaids and nagas should stay nagas. They're both mythologically accurate for the most part.

Okay first, Medusa, with a E. Second, Medusa was the near human looking of the three sisters. The only difference was that she had snakes for hair. Her sisters however, are the half snake half woman creatures. Whom also happen to be immortal, unlike their sister. You know, with the whole cutting off her head and her staying dead thing.

You are getting warmer, there is a connection between sirens, mermaids and naga in this mod and perhaps the names in the forum preview has caused more confusion then intended.
Oh, so it was worded and named as such to hint at something? Cool! Happy to know that you're keeping some surprises for us.
Edit: Won't stop me from asking questions though. I'm too OC and I've been fixated on this mod for awhile now.
Hello! I'm new to the forums, but I've being following this thread for pretty much a while. I absolutely LOVE dragons (especially the wyvern look) and am very excited about this mod. Though I have a question: will you be able to sneak past sleeping stage 4+ dragons without waking them up (but still have to keep some distance or they'll get mad), and steal some of their treasure?

Thank you for the spelling help. I thought so, but I wasn't totally sure on that. That part of mythology I've not been to interested in. I prefer Aisian Mythology, but the Naga always fascinated me.

Good question, I've been wondering how sensitive the sleeping dragons will be to the presence of a player. It would be really cute (and nerve wracking!) if we could tip toe around like Bilbo.

Cool! I also have another question that I forgot to ask: Will there be new creatures in the Nether, or maybe big Fire dragons will be more common there or something?
An idea, how about if you could enchant dragon eggs. Since dragons are magical creatures and eggs are objects at the time, what if you could effectively bless the dragon-to-be with an enchantment of some sort.
Smite and Sharpness would increase their physical attacks, or one of their physical attacks
Protection would improve their defense. Unbreaking would improve the rider's defense when they are on, or strengthen the armor they wear.
Fire/Ice Aspect would increase the power of their breath attack.
It would help make each dragon feel more unique. Also to nerf it, you could make it that each egg could only store one enchantment/blessing.
