The (late) Fafnir48 removed bedrock generation in his mod (found at http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/wip-mods/1440752-the-underworld-beta-0-3-wip-1-2-5) and instead have the player teleport to his dimension the moment they enter the what would be void. Although his Underworld mod's been dead for about two years now, I feel like using this method to travel down farther rather than spawning portals would make a lot more sense and would reduce the feeling of "this isn't really a part of the underground, it's just another dimension" that is very apparent right now.
Additionally, the Bedrock Plains should be much, much darker than it is currently, and shouldn't have any sort of noticeable day/night cycle.
Other than that, I absolutely adore this mod and have been searching for some form of extension to the underground (something like what Total Miner: Forge for the Xbox 360 offered) for what seems like forever. This is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite Minecraft mods, even in Alpha as it is.
Keep up the excellent work!
is a layer a seperate dimension, like in my mod, or something different?
and yes they are
Speaking of which. since they are different layers, "under ground" biomes in these dimensions can and will work with the regular minecraft biome generation except you have to make your own terrain generation.

Thanks for the idea! I will try to add that in the next update, along with the next 3 levels and Ametrine-plated armor.

The portals are breakable via tnt is the only method that i know of so far.
Might want to either make them not do that or do what the other guy said and
make the person enter the dimension by seeing if they are at the proper y coordinate
They are also (deliberately) breakable with a pickaxe so they don't annoy people attempting to build at layer 16 or below. Also, yes, I will add that improved teleport method in the next update.

All right, mod test 2.0. I have taken several screenshots, courtesy of Imgur.
Where to begin? I believe the mod has significantly improved. Many of the new ore and tool textures have been created (still missing one for Sapphire Ore though) as well as multiple new blocks. Also, the portals seem to working and the levels appear to have a solid start to them...Now, for a few suggestions...
1. The portals to each level should be textured differently or have a sort of structure around them instead of looking like a solid block of a Nether portal.
2. Some of the levels could use some redecorating; particularly the maze level. It looks exactly like a maze, which is great, but it should have more dungeons or something to keep it interesting.
3. The bedrock plains level- question, will it be lava or change to molten iron like in the original suggestion?
4. Also regarding the original suggestion, are there going to be the levels below the bedrock plains which were mentioned in the original suggestion (i.e Mutation Level, Void Level, Abandoned Caves?)
5. Could you also possibly add new mobs? One thing that would also be cool is for each level to get more dangerous the farther you go down.
And, finally, I hope once all the bugs and glitches are ironed out and the mod is fully released, I have a feeling it will become pretty popular. Hopefully this does become a well-known mod once it's complete.
Off-Topic: This mod would also be great if Achievement Hunter or CaptainSparklez or someone else did a Let's Play of it.

I'm still using Windows 7.
I said this. Two days later, my computer's motherboard melted down and I had to get a new one with Windows 8.
So first of all... THIS MOD IS PERFECT! I love it!
Second, I am an mcpe modder... and I thought it would be cool if I could port this to mcpe!!
What do you think?
Well, I don't think most phones/tablets would be able to handle it, and that would be extremely difficult, as MCPE doesn't have dimensions... I think it's worth a shot, but with fewer additions.
I think they're the same idea basically. Here's how it will work: If y<0, go to next lower level. If y>255, go to next higher level.
Good idea! but remember to add a check for Dimension 0 (the overworld), where: if we're on the main world, skip y>255 routine. Otherwise, we could loop through dimensions by pilar-jumping!
(fixed stupid mistake in suggestion)

This has been mostly implemented in commit ba5c21d9e8 (to the GitHub repository), however it does not work at all in the main world yet. I did it by simply making portals (now recolored to look more void-like) generate in layers at the top and almost the bottom (the actual bottom layer caused crashes) of the layers. However, I have not added it to the Overworld yet.

Yeah... I would have to limit the size of each dimension to 128 blocks as that is all that mcpe allows currently... (unless I use addon mods which could probably edit that too), but I would do it as generating seperate worlds for each dimension. When you reach a portal, it will load another world as the next dimension... I don't know. But I do know that it would not really lag *that* bad considering how it runs other things... I guess it would depend on the phone/tablet.

Thanks! I don't mod for MCPE, but you can try to port it (try because I'm not sure it is possible to do the kind of features I am adding (and will add) to this mod on MCPE)!

as for it looking weird side by side, i wouldn't think so because a lot of other mods are starting to provide high res textures for their mod w/o providing a texture pack and i bet you a lot of people play with default textures on.
As well, once i make more high res textures, it will seem less out of place. The textures im working on now are the compressed ores.
This is what i suggested before.

No, i like it this way!
Thanks for the idea! I will try to add that in the next update, along with the next 3 levels and Ametrine-plated armor.
Thanks! I will be including it in the next update. Names will be "oreSilver", "oreSapphire", "oreAmetrine", and "oreAquamarine".

EDIT:
Sapphire:
Aquamarine:
PS these are roughly made. i could spend more time on them to make them look even better.
Thanks! However, since they are high-res, they might look a little odd next to my normal-res textures, but I'll try them anyway.
