Lich: A powerful necromantic sorcerer who has achieved immortality through undeath.
I've always wanted to be a proper Lich, and I think that would work great in Minecraft. You may say, "But there's already a Necromancy mod". Yes there is, but it doesn't really speak "Lich" to me and it isn't the necromancy that I imagined. Becoming a Lich is a just as big of a necessity in the mod as the necromancy itself. Most necromancers start studying this dark magic in order to become a Lich in the first place. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lich and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lich_(Dungeons_%26_Dragons)#Ecology there is more to being a Lich than controlling a few random minions. I'm primarily going off of the Lich from the game "Battle for Wesnoth".
It literally exactly outlines how it would work in a mod:
"In some sources the method of becoming a lich is referred to as the Ritual of Becoming or Ceremony of Endless Night. The process is often described as requiring the creation and consumption of a deadly potion, the Elixir of Defilation, which is to be drunk on a full moon; although the exact details of the potion are described differently in various sources, the creation of the potion almost universally entails acts of utter evil, such as using as an ingredient the blood of an infant slain by the potential sorcerer's own hand, or other, similarly vile components. The potion invariably kills the drinker but if the process is successful it rises again some days later as a Lich."
This sounds like stuff straight out of a Minecraft mod.
Also, both pages go into detail about "phylacteries". When you become a Lich you store your soul in an item of sorts, most likely a gem or box. Then you must keep this item guarded at all costs. If it is destroyed then you lose all of your Lich powers. Becoming a Lich is damn expensive and complicated, so losing all of it when your phylactery is destroyed is a massive setback. This is a necessary balancing feature for all the up-sides of being a Lich.
Advantages/Powers:
They can put others to sleep at will.
Summon fodder undead on a low cooldown.
Heavy natural armor, because undead have no flesh or blood to cut into. They feel no physical pain.
They are immune to disease, poison, and hunger.
The articles go on about how the biggest thing about Liches are their vast intellect. They are the most skilled of anyone in the art of sorcery. This means spells of arcane and chilling (literally) power. Also there should be a skeletal hand weapon that goes through armor and saps a bit of life.
Instant damage heals you.
Weaknesses/Downsides:
Villagers automatically have the worst reputation against you and priests are able to use holy/light/arcane magic against you.
Liches are still vulnerable to fire, and very weak against arcane magic.
Possibly reduced sight range or less color, because they don’t have eyes. How do they see? Whatever magical means they use, it can’t be as good as regular vision.
When your phylactery is destroyed and you lose your powers, you are sent to a nether place of kinds that you must escape to respawn.
The more powerful spirits that you summon are of greater intelligence, and they do not want to be enslaved. If you do not keep proper control of them then they can rebel and attack you.
When not wearing a helmet you burn in sunlight.
Various things to dissuade people from befriending a Lich. Liches don't have friends.
New Mechanics:
Holy/Arcane/Light magic: Goes through armor, but the damage is quite low. The damage is multiplied against undead, including Liches.
Chill Effect: When a Lich is nearby your character twitches a bit in chilling fear. Also gives away the possibility of ambushes.
Necromancy: You can summon various creatures that all used to be humans but died.
New Blocks/Items:
Holy Water: Can be splashed to deal holy damage in an area similar to a potion. Can’t heal, but damages everyone and is super effective against undead.
Holy Sword: When you bathe a sword in holy water it gains a second durability bar and gains holy damage on attacks. The second durability bar represents how long the water is lasting on the sword.
Phylactery: A Lich’s soul trapped in an item, must be protected by them at all costs. I’m thinking a nether star for the gem involved.
The Undead:
Each undead has a few different levels of strength. The levels could mean harder rituals, a leveling system, or not exist.
Skeletons (warriors of the past that wield swords and bows).
These are quite simple. The bow skeletons have a weak melee attack and a bow. They are in order of strength. Instead of levels they could just wear armor and get enchants on their weapons.
Ghouls (green swamp monsters that poison you on attack):
They can get bigger and they eat their victims to gain more health.
Ghosts (transparent skeletons that are in a hood and robes and fly. They attack through ranged, chilling screams or a magical touch. The touch heals them a slight amount but they have a low amount of health).
There's the weak ghost then he can split down two paths. The one with the scythe is essentially an empowered version of the original. The ones with the blades blend in with the darkness and ignore hitbox collision. They deal significantly more damage from behind. Though the blades aren't magical so they lose their draining ability and they can't use chilling screams.
An undead general (undead fight better when around him because moral and he can think for himself a lot better)
This is the guy who you can leave in charge of undead. You can't really have a group of other undead in an organized group guarding or patrolling. You need one of these guys to keep them together.
The Lich (You, and I discuss the mechanics everywhere)
This is what you're aiming to become, right here.
More in-depth on the Lich mechanics, and more ideas:
If the Lich losing their powers when they die is too harsh, then the phylactery could have a durability of three or something so the Lich can die a few times before losing their powers. Maybe you can use any gem, but it has different durability depending on the gem. So a sapphire is 1 death and a nether star is 4 or 5.
Liches robes are required for the ritual. No other magic can properly channel the dark energies. You must keep these on, wearing Protection IV on top of your natural defenses would be OP.
Various symbols and patterns that you use for the rituals and summonings. If you get them wrong then you are more likely to lose control of your minions.
More powerful undead requiring a skeleton skull each to summon and 8 or so lower undead can be summoned for each zombie head.
On hardcore the phylactery functions differently. When you are killed you respawn and your phylactery is destroyed. A second life in hardcore and that's all the phylactery gives you.
Minions hostile to other players on sight to, again, dissuade friendships with Liches.
Some special reward for defeating a Lich, because he's essentially a boss.
A specific boss that the Lich has to defeat to gain his powers. Or he has to learn them steadily from a new and rare villager.
There can only be one Lich at a time. To become a Lich you have to kill the current one. Repairing the old Lich's phylactery is quicker than creating a new one to give you a head start on being the new Lich.
And then a song devoted to Liches:
I want to be an ancient Lich, so frickin’ bad
Raise all of the things I never had
Uh, I wanna be on the top of the wanted board
Sitting on a 1000 GP reward
Oh, every time I close my eyes
I see myself making the undead rise.
A different village every night
I swear I’ll will every fight
When I’m an ancient Lich
Watch your children every night
I could just make an army appear
I would be the monster that caused all the fear
I’d probably kill everything and everybody
No matter how shoddy
Raid a few villages like ‘Minions, I want that’
Make all my victims go splat
It’s been a couple months since I’ve last had friends
But who needs that when you have undead fiends?
I’d probably take a visit to where the ol’ King lives
Then run his corpse through a few sharp sieves
And even if anybody survives
They’ll always remember the monster that took so many lives
This does sound rather hard to code though, but no worries about that. As for any of this, I only really know how to code basic items, armor and food so I don't think I'll be much help. But you have my support.

Yeah, I can't really think of any basic items, armor, or food in the mod. There are items that Liches can use but other than that it's mostly mechanics.
This is a little texture I made for a bone staff not quite sure about the crafting recipe for it yet maybe bones glowstone dust and astral essence or something anyways hope you like it

I could just chill (get it?)
And never go downhill
Then I’d kill some slaves
Who’ll never see their graves
Then I’ll keep their skeletons
To make some more hellions
But I just don’t have enough knowledge
Can’t get a ‘mancer to acknowledge
So that I can fulfill my only dream
And make anybody scream
Never eating, never resting
You may just think I’m jesting…
But hell no I ain’t
You can do anything without restraint

I wish knew I how to code BUT this is a very nice ideas seeing the necromancy mod currently out there is more like a flesh golem mod
With this being the necromancy mod
Where did you get the pictures?
I said in the post that I was primarily basing the Lich off of the one from Battle for Wesnoth but I didn't make it very clear
It's Frankenstein, sane and simple. There's also another "Necromancy mod" that is the same as Mekanism except the energy is called "souls".

I can make some cool mobs and maybe I could make like a dracolitch (undead dragon of epicness)
ZallCaTor's Sprite Ordering Service. is awesome too
Is my RPG answerI guess
Did it work?
welcome to Cursebound
WolfBurnsMC (look up in the thread) is supposedly working on it right now so you can get together with him.
